  1. That's a lot of protein...does she get vegies as well? I would be asking the vet to do a blood test for kidneys
  2. I have just had a good clean out of the freezer. I am going to make chicken stock out of the necks & stick to the frozen turkey necks that the other dogs get. Thanks Rebanne
  3. You can't wrap your dogs in cotton wool, just in case 1 in a million has a reaction to raw chicken. You just have to see the rubbish they eat when they are running free around the farm. They need to build up an immunity to things & eliminating things from their diet could possibly mean a problem down the track when they get hold of some raw chicken that has been contaminated. It is the same with people. Now when we are pregnant we are told to avoid all these different types of food (it never happened in my days, we just ate what we liked & ate sensibly). Now you have all these kids & young adults are growing up with allergies & sensitivities to certain foods. That's just my opinion, by the way...not backed up by scientific evidence, just observation
  4. I always go back to thinking how dogs are able to bury a bone, be it chicken, beef, turkey or whatever & dig it up several days later & eat it with no consequences. My dogs eat all sorts of rubbish when out walking in the bush...all different sorts of poo, bird, animal or bat. Cricket does get the runs on rare occasions after we have been to the beach . I think I would be more careful about the choking hazard
  5. For the first time in my life I have bought chicken necks. It is always turkey necks that I buy. Sometimes I buy chicken drumsticks if I can't get the turkey necks, but I feed them frozen. I was going to feed the chicken necks to the pup, frozen to reduce the chance of choking. Does not freezing for an extended period kill these baddies?? What about the raw chicken in the puppy food ?
  6. I bought Cricket some of the Big Dog Rabbit & he loves it, but I added a bit of fresh fish to it to make it more of a meal. Tonight he will get his kibble.
  7. I bought some Leading Raw patties for Puppies, but they are only 14% protein. Is this high enough to feed to a growing pup? I will only be one meal a day, the rest will be puppy kibble
  8. Yes, we could fit a whole cow in our freezer..no worries there. I thought it would be far more expensive than that, but really it is about the same price as a reasonable quality mince. Only hope they use top quality ingredients in them
  9. @Tassie...according to the website out local Petstock should have them, so maybe I could give half & half. The ingredients in the patties is very much the same as in the kibble
  10. Are barf patties readily available? Or only in the big cities?
  11. I am very excited The breeder has recommended Puppy food for first 6 months then adult food....so I will go with that
  12. https://www.budgetpetproducts.com.au/new/product/meals-for-mutts-mfm-turkey-salmon-sardine-puppy-and-whelping-dry-dog-food-9kg/9170/ is the one I am thinking of buying... 28% protein 16% fat
  13. I pick up my new pup in a couple of weeks & by then he will be almost 10 weeks old. The breeder has him on A La Carte Puppy which is 28 - 30% protein 18% fat & she is going to give me some to transition him over to hat ever I am going to feed him & yes, I will ask the breeder her opinion It is 8 years since I had a pup & my last BC boy I raised him on Black Hawk Lamb & Rice adult food which the breeder was happy with & he grew nicely. Lately I have been buying Meals for Mutts & my adult boy is on the Kangaroo & Lamb one. The M for M K& L says that it is suitable for all life stages, but is only 20% protein. They also make a Puppy (turkey, salmon & sardine) one which I will probably buy unless the general consensus is to stick to the adult formula with the lower protein. I am confused Oh...& just because I know someone is going to ask......
  14. Meet Jaxon (JJ for short) He is just 5 weeks old & we wont be picking him up till the end of April. Not sure if I can hold out that long
  15. Eating from plastic bowls can cause this also, so I have heard, but I am not a vet
  16. Bindi is going well, thanks Deeds. Still running around madly. She doesn't mind the food & I sneak the occasional extra thing in. The vet doesn't want to see her for 6 months, so that is good.
  17. It looks to me like a scar of some sorts...I would be asking the breeder about it. Has she been desexed?? ETA...too far up to be a desexing scar, but it still looks like a scar of some sort
  18. Bindi's test have come back good. No change in her urine & the blood test showed that her kidneys are coping with the food she is on. Which means I can continue to give her the turkey neck, a sardine a day & the not to often egg. She has put on weight tho, so I have cut back the quantities. The vet put her on Propalin 0.6ml twice a day for her incontinence, but I need to cut back the dose a bit as she has been "tripping out" on it
  19. At what age border collie pup can you tell if it is going to have blue eyes??
  20. Can you elaborate on why you can't give your dog a bone outside on his own without the other dog?? It seems your dog is craving something to chew on & the only thing he can find is your stuff. Even giving him a frozen stuffed kong would help with his desire to chew.
  21. I would be separating them at feed time & giving them both a good meaty bone to chew. something like half a frozen turkey neck. It sounds like he doesn't get enough "good" things to chew.
