  1. My dogs are both retch failures my Lappie "talks" about it but doesn't bring the ball back rather she will grab it and trott off in the other direction.

Now my little Siamese is totally focused and will play fetch for hours

  2. Hi all - I feel I need some advice about our wolfie x BC (well thats the vets guess) She is now 6 years old and we have had her since she was 18months. Early last year she started being unable to jump into the back of the car and limped occasionally. Xrays showed severe hip dysplasia and she underwent an FHO on the worst hip.

She has always been a bit unpredicable in temperament and has shown occasional aggression to other dogs and doesn't like her back legs being handled. She has snapped at people a couple of times. My vet said that she would have been in considerable pain for some time and was protecting her rear end. The first vet I took her to said she was snappy because of the BC in her.

She is now on pain killers and carprofen but our problem is that if the other hip is operated on will the aggression disappear or is it inbedded with her now. We can only take her for very short walks with minimum running. I really do not believe in keeping an animal alive if it is in pain and has a low quality of life. Our vet is leaning towards PTS and I am really confused as to what to do. She is a great dog and we love her dearly but.............

has anyone else had experience with aggression and pain ?

  3. I haven't read through this threas but my Lappie really amazed me the other day.

Lappies are know to be loving gentle submissive dogs and mine is certainly all that -her nickname is " Love-bunny"

I took her to the local dog park and there were only a couple of other dogs there -she made friends straight away (as usual) and started running around with a very big young retriever.

I was talking to the retrievers owner and not really watching the dogs -the retriever run full belt into me and knocked me over. My Lappie instantly started vocally telling him off and was so forceful that he backed under a bench with her still yelling at him.

So I feel much safer now with my vocal Lappie protector dog. :coffee:

  4. I agree with all that has been said already -especially re fussy websites with lots of things moving around the screen and music -really dislike them.

What I do really like is photos of the breeder/s with some of their dogs. Then I have an idea of who I am talking too when I make contact.

And photos of past litters in their new homes with little comments from the new owners.

Also approx price because most people have no idea that a pedigree dog can cost $$$$$$$$$$$$

  5. Have read this thread from start to finish and in my opinion the kid was doing role play in his costume. I know the types well :(

I think he needed to be gently told that it is not safe to stare down a dog though. :)

And if it was me with my super friendly Lappie I would have taken her over to him to say "hello" and given a little talk about dogs. However if it had been me with my nervous reactive Wolf x I would have run a mile.

  6. Once she got over the initial shock it worked really well and she stopped pulling - then I realised that I actually need her to pull me up our very steep street

Once she learned to stop pulling, did you switch back to a regular collar?

Yes but only down hill or on the flat

  7. I used an easy walk harness - and it did stop my older boy who's a shocking puller from pulling on the lead. A bit like power steering. Of course we did have a nasty side effect - he started screaming at me everytime he got to the end of the lead and was stopped by the harness!!! Not being able to pull left him just a tad frustrated

Must be a spitz thing -my Lappie sat and had a massive howl when I put the easy walk harness on her

Haha, I was planning to get one of these for my Samoyed, Buffy. Not sure if she'll have a hissy-fit too.

  9. Whats is this rain you speak of?

Big wet stuff... falls from the sky?

    Ringing any bells? :champagne:

Haven't seen it for a long time although supposedly happened in some SA areas yesterday.

Maybe it is a spitz thing Jaana loves doing zoomies in the rain too - not that it happens here often

And I have to remind her that she is a dog not a cat -I have never seem a dog bat and paw toys the way she does. She also loves being stroked from head to tail like a cat"""""""""""

  10. Yes I got one for my Lappie when she was young. The main reason was because collars slipped over her huge furry neck.

The harness was good for her and she walked nicely in it and it did stop her pulling. She has settled down now and doesn't try and back out of her collars.

  11. I have 1 pedigree dog , 1 X breed dog , a moggie , a pedigree siamese and

a designer cat - Burmese x Ragdoll who is fantastic I saw them advertised after I had to PTS my other much loved moggie and I thought that a Burmese X Ragdoll would get the best from both breeds and he certainly has. He came from a loving home and is very healthy and happy.

I know on Cat World they are very concerned about designer cats and apparently a lot are sold through pet shops ( I didn't get mine from a pet shop) - Ragdoll x appear to be the favourite at the moment.

While cats don't have the big range of physical size that dogs do there are very strong personality traits between breeds.
