  1. Oh She is too cute! Congrates on your new pup, lovely pics too, thanks for sharing them
  2. Hiya, just found this whist browsing through some random stuff and thought would post, for people in melbourne wanting to become doggy blood donors http://www.vch.unimelb.edu.au/bloodbank_faqs.html
  3. My staffy does this, and doesnt have flees either (Is advantix treated monthly) Know what you mean when you say it isnt a scratching and itch type on licking and nibble but more like he just does it cause it feels nice! He doesnt do it excessively either, usually for a few minutes when he wakes up, be it morning or after an afternoon nap. I have put it down to its just his way of waking up, like we rub our eyes when we wake up or are tired.
  4. You can easily make your own wheat heat cushions (The microwavable ones) Just google 'How to make A Wheat Heating Pad' Its really easy! I made one for Leo last year, he loved it! Here he is sitting on it (The red thing he is sitting on) Will have to pull it out again now that the weather is getting cooler again:

    Wisdom Teeth?

Thanks for your reply Perseshone, Yes thats what i thought but thought better double check That was my first thought, bit of bone/abcess but can see nothing. He doesnt look uncomfortable as such, but think will get the vets to check him out just to be sure. But yes, he is stronger, tennis balls used to last 2 days, these days they last 2 seconds (seriously! Crunch crunch, pop) and they're popped in half. So yes, perhaps just doesnt need to use the back teeth as much Thanks again

    Wisdom Teeth?

Maybe a stupid question but..... I was just wondering if dogs get wisdom teeth? I only asked as my dog pretty much finished teething by 7-8months, but now at nearly 11 months i notice he doesnt seem to like chewing towards the back off his mouth (Where the big molers are) so was just thinking, do dogs get wisdom teeth at a later stage in life, say teenage/early adulthood, like people? I have only noticed this in the last week or so, more so when chewing on a bigger bone (Like a lamb neck) he hasnt had an issue chewing on the back teeth before and have looked, all looks good, nice and healthy pinky gums, lovely white teeth no chips/cracks, no abcess's or anything like that that i can see.
  7. Leo gets turkey Drumsticks/wings Occasionally. Its not something that is part of his regualr diet (I only feed once every 2-3 weeks) as I read that the high fat content in turkey skin can cause acute Pancreatitis in dogs.
  8. Leo tried his first fresh fish yesterday, bits of salmon belly. Wasnt interested at all! He spat it out twice when i tired to give him a small peice and kept flicking his tonge (like a little kid does when they dont like the taste of something) LOL So after 20 min i picked most of it back out of his bowl and put a chicken merryland instead on top of the left over fish, and he ate it all! Left over fish and chicken. So next few times think I will just put 1/2 fish, half chicken till he gets used to it.

    Obsession.

Leo does this, when ever we have a guests over he will follow them EVERYWHERE (Including trying to follow them to the toilet and will sit and scratch on the door outside while they're in there) and sits at they're feet instead of mine. My mum came to stay for a few days and he even wanted to sleep on her bed instead of in our bedroom (Where he sleeps on his own bed) TBH, i think they know newbies as always softies! In normal everyday life there are rules they must follow and obide by by (NILF- nothing in life is free!) my mum keep saying OHH its Ok, i dont mind. (If he sleeps on the end of my bed, if he stares and winges at me while im eating etc etc) and mum also gave treats out 'just beacuse' which is i would agree a big part! Heck, if i knew someone that kept throwing chocolates at me just for sitting near them, well id be pretty heafty by now!
  10. Great tip! Ta! He loves the tin sardines once a week so im sure he will scoff them, even better on hot days as frozen sardinsicles (Popsicles, sardinsicles)
  11. Yeah, that was my thought. Someone kept telling me NOO Its fine! (Just another case of dont take everything you hear as gospel) So true, why buy when you can fish for free. But i just have no patients for it, And cant bait a hook to save my life. My OH would love you for encouraging me to go fishing with him though
  12. Excellent, thanks all. I have a good list now of fish ideas that I can feed. Next is a trip to the fish shop (And taking over the other 1/2 of the freezer with my good fish buys OH keeps complaining the dog gets more freezer space than we do) I have also heard that I can feed prawn shells/heads, but raw only of course.... Hmmm still seems kinda spikey to me...? Does anyone know? And if so can i freeze them?
  13. Ok, thanks for the replys. Im not a big fish eating person myself so have NO IDEA when it comes types of fish. And ops, just checked with the OH and its leather jacket! Not flat head, my mistake. But take it would be very much the same in terms of spines? Sorry, as i said, i dont know fish... All i know is my OH catches it cleans it and brings in nice stripes of white fish flesh for me to cook. Apart from that its Barramundi, prawns and calamari at my place LOL Rijbiz, how would i know what content of lead a fish does contain? Any other sugguestions as to type of fish you feed would be great!
  14. I want to start giving my dog raw fish. ATM he eats mostly raw meat/veg but some kibble along with tin fish. I just havent tried raw fish as am a bit scared... my dog can be a bit funny when intorucing new meats and will bark and back away and bark and backaway as if it was a snake! Im thinking salmon heads but dont know if he will eat these first, maybe better to start easy? (If that makes sense) Thinking more flesh than bone to start with.. but not sure what kind of fleshy fish i would get cheap? Can I feed flat head? Or are there particular types of fish i should avoid? My OH fishes quite a bit but only seems to catch alot of flat head (And puffer fish, but wont be feeding those! LOL) Dont know what that says about him as a fisher man Any advise for first time fish eating dog? Also, where do you buy? As I have had a look at my local fish shop and is quite pricey, not wanting to spend any more than $5-10 per kg (Depending on how fleshy the fish is) Im in Sydney, close to rouse hill/parramatta if anyone can sugguest a good quality low cost location thats close to me to source from ...?
  15. I Buy most of my meat from either Pendle Hill meat market (138 Bungaree Rd, Pendle Hill, NSW PH (02) 9631 3133) They always have frozen chicken thigh prices in 2kg bags for $6, sometiems have frozen chicken pet mince 2kg at $3 or lamb off cuts around $1.60-1.80 kg i think. Plus heaps off other great specials and a huge selection on human grade meats (Premium mince at 20.00 bot 2kg, often have specials on there steaks 2kg for the price of $Usually around $16-$24 depending on what steak, BBQ T-Bones, Sirloins) Or the Glenmore meat co (40-46 Wentworth Park Rd, Glebe, NSW PH: (02) 9660 3522 ) Not a huge selection here but close to my work so easy to pop down at lunchtime, good specials on Monday (Seems to be change over day or something) Usually get chicken breat/merrylands, lamb kidney, chicken mince and cheap lamb necks.
  16. That is insanely cheap. $1.60 roo tail. I pay $4.60.... Thats if you order over 100kg
  17. I have heard of people using goats cheese/milk as an altertate to cow cheese/milk for both dogs and lactose intolerant children... but spose that would still be dairy...
  18. I think Artemis Maximal Dog is just as good and you can get it from some great pet stores. Were do you buy Artemis from? I havent been able to find it in any stores, only online.
  19. Would have to say i agree, i have been to Burns a few times and it looks awful in regards to hygiene standards. Plus my dog just didnt eat the meat from there, not even brisket bones. At first i thought it was because of the horse/kangaroo meat used in their puppy mince, as my dog hasnt eaten these meats before (At least that what i was told was in the puppy mince) but there chicken mince was no better. I get alot of my meat from Pendle Hill Meat Market Address : 138 Bungaree Rd., Pendle Hill NSW Opening Hours MON 6:00 AM to 5:30 PM TUE 6:00 AM to 5:30 PM WED 6:00 AM to 5:30 PM THU 6:00 AM to 5:30 PM FRI 6:00 AM to 5:30 PM SAT 6:00 AM to 12:30 PM (Make sure you get in early on Saturdays, as gets chockers around 10-11am!) and Glenmore Meat Company Address : 40 Wentworth Park Road Glebe NSW Phone : 02 9660 3522 Fax : 02 9692 9662 Opening times : Mon - Fri: 6.30am-6pm Sat: 6.30am-1pm Sun: 8-11.30am
