You cannot blame people for being suspicious given some of the activities that have been spoken about in this forum lately. Just asking for money to help pay for a dog's operation is not much different from begging.
Any concerns Deadwombat had could have been raised in a courteous manner, without the smartarsery.
Jess and Trish, I have spoken to Fiona and am donating to Jessie's fix-my-leg fund.
Thank You so much
I really do understand where people are coming from. I have been posting Jessie's story everywhere and simply asking for help. Some people dont understand that if you donate $1 or $2 it goes so far. We are just asking for some help. We are organising a fundraising BBQ outside PETstock. I also make dog collars and coats in my spare time and all of the money made goes to Jessie. We are almost half way there.
Lots of fundraisers use chocolate drives to make money, I would be happy to sell chockies for Jessie if it is an avenue you want to go down to raise funds :) I will also buy a couple of coats, will visit your website now.
How do I order your coats? :)

Thank you Haredown. I assure you the only reason any dog I get wont be sleeping in my bed is everyone says its a bad idea. Having a dog that want to be always with its humans is one of the reasons Ive been looking at them. I could never exile a dog outside, I dont see a point in getting one then.
You will soon find once you get a Whippet that they will assure you that sleeping on the bed is a good idea, in fact a great idea! My Whippet started sleeping on my bed when he was 8 weeks old and he is now 7 years old and he is a wonderful bed warmer, I wouldn't have it any other way :D

Although my darling Abbie is not a Pit Bull she is a Bull Breedx Her and her bestie Yogi Whippet are the best of friends and often get called Jack and Walter( the odd couple) when they are out and about
Judge breeds and owners by their actions and deeds individually please dont let a few bad owners cloud your opinion of a loveable type of dog(and owner)

Looking at the photos from the article most of the dogs look like Amstaffs(?) except for the GSP puppy, could be links to a dog fighting ring or breeding hunting dogs
The reptiles are protected species by the looks of them and goodness knows what was going to be done to the snake.
Not a good situation for any of the animals in my opinion. I have no problem with home killed meat but I do think there needs to be humane living conditions for the animals.

Here's a link to it...
There are the general rules on there and they sound basically like, if anyone is being a pain.. then out they go!
If I end up going, I might see you Robbi coz my Boz is a whippet and I love meeting em so will be on the lookout ;)
Just look for the biggest Whippet you have ever seen  That will be us. The weather sounds like it will be perfect as well.
-
It is a wonderful idea isn't it, I will take Yogi Whippet and he will probably sleep through the whole evening, Abbie is a bit high energy and will have to miss out.
I hope that people are all sensible and that it becomes a regular event :)

Sunday night the Moonlight Cinema is showing Red Dog at its venue at Botanic Park (next to the Botanic Gardens)and it is "Bring Your Dog Night" sounds like it should be fun, more info is on the Event Cinema website.

The Greyhounds are firing at the moment, they are looking wonderful

What a wonderful ending to a horrible incident. I hope the monster woman never gets another dog.
-
The Greyhounds here in South Australia are absolutely stunning, they always come into the ring like polished mahogany Young Alice is a sweetie. Its very hard to keep up with the Jones's down here in group 4

To the OP please dont think that you are being attacked about how you choose to keep your pup but please consider the advice that you are being given by some very experienced trainers/breeders/owners.
Bull Breeds are very different to own than a Maltese or other small dog, they have so much enthusiasm, tenacity and energy and it is SO important that it is focussed in the appropriate direction. When you take on any pup you are taking on a big responsibility but a Bull Breed brings about even more responsibility. This dog must be correctly socialised and trained, he must be very much a family member and included in your life, Bull Breeds love being with their people not left to their own devices.
There are 100s of Amstaffs and their crosses that get surrended to pounds every day because people cant deal with an adolescent Bullie who hasn't been given a good early foundation.
-
Poor pup, taken from his family too soon, not allowed inside with his pack, this is starting to not sound ideal. I hope you have registration papers for this little guy as I think one day you may need them.
-
There never seems to be the right words to express how sad and empty it is to lose a beloved dog, this poem always help me when I have to say goodbye to a beloved friend
"It came to me that every time I lose a dog
they take a piece of my heart with them.
And every new dog who comes into my life
gifts me with a piece of their heart.
If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog,
and I will become as generous and loving as they are."

Rest easy sweet Tango
I am so sorry for your loss
-
I am so sorry for your loss.Maggie passed while with you, what a peaceful way to leave.
Rest in peace sweet Maggie.

What a sweet little pup you have, I am sure you have a wonderful little friend there. Those paws look so sore best to go to the vet and have them treated, you dont want them to get infected and germs could easily be transfered from a public footpath.
While at the vet find out when you can enrol in the puppy preschool, having an Amstaff or Bullbreed at the moment means that you want to do everything you can to socialise and train the little guy to be a good canine member of the community, there are many people that dont do this and responsible Bull owners and their dogs suffer because of it

Just be careful of where your info comes from about him. Just realised I only have a hard copy not electronic of the original paper, but I have an electronic copy of a review he did on LH if you'd like it.
Thanks Jo, will pm you.

The experiments were conducted at The University of Pennsylvania in the mid 60's so ethic standards would have been very different,
I'm not defending the decision because I dont know anything about it, but you are aware that whenever you see a medical specialist they quite possibly conducted animal experiments at some stage. Do you call them torturers as well? Seems a pretty strong word to be using, especially on a public forum and if you're trying to gain public interest. I dont really know but I'd be having a bit of a think about that, especially in light of Rev Jo's post.
Sorry raz I have modified the title of the post so as not to offend his supporters. You are right there are some very valid experiments that have had brilliant outcomes but I think that people need to be aware of all of this mans research throughout his career.
-
They would be aware of his previous work trust me, those experiments are famous and are key papers so the committee that would have reviewed him would know about them. They are his claim to fame in academia. They probably have a counter strategy ready and form letter for complaints. I don't like his early work but it has lead to good things and that is all they'll care about.
Your right Jo,I probably should not have said anything about this and will get a form letter for my response and I realise that good often comes of this sort of research but I just think that the public need to be aware of his past research practices.

The experiments were conducted at The University of Pennsylvania in the mid 60's so ethic standards would have been very different, I think what concerns me is that South Australia has employed an American thinker in residence on the strength of his book Happiness and its causes without looking at his previous studies, I realise there are many experiments on dogs but I just cant get past this not being a well thought out appointment on the SA govts part.
