I wouldn't let my child approach a stranger in a public place nor do I let my dogs approach strangers. The world is full of different types of people and some of them are scared of or downright hate dogs.

People really have to think ahead and keep their dogs away from people for the dogs own safety, there are many violent people in our world unfortunatly as this over the top stabbing shows.

I dont think anybody is saying that some dogs of Bull Breed lines are not dog aggressive as certainly some are but a responsible owner knows to keep their dog under control in a public place and not put other dogs at risk.

People wonder why anti bsl supporters can come across as overly defensive, it is because the load of rubbish the media and Bull Breed haters spout about dogs that they really know nothing about. I challenge anybody to find an ounce of hate in their heart for these very happy wiggle butted people lovers if they would only look past the prejudice held against them and spend some time with one.

I certainly agree that there are people that shouldn't own any dog, there are really no dangerous dogs, dogs are only what we make them. Some people would turn a Poodle agressive, you are just lucky your breed of choice doesn't appeal to the type of person that is a cruel irresponsible owner.

I agree that my breed most certainly does not appeal to the types of people that want to scare others with their dogs. But I most certainly do not agree that there are no dangerous dogs, otherwise this poor lady would still be alive today, and I could kick a toy poodle from here to the gold coast if one was to threaten me. What's your solution to stop undesirables owning dangerous breeds capable of killing?

It would be nice to have an answer to that question, I think maybe mandatory obedience or socialisation training classes for all dogs and their owners to a certain degree. I realise this wont happen but maybe for the sake of us all being able to own the dog breed of our choice we need to find a way to make dogs harder to be obtained by those not wanting a dog for the right reason, I hope one day we find a way to stop undesireable dog owners but until that time we must try and keep a rational view point about Pit Bulls, they are not sociopaths with hairline triggers and an inbuilt kill switch. They are dogs just like any other breed or type,they respond to love and praise and are highly trainable canines, they deserve our love, tolerence and to be honest they need our help as we must not let the actions of some people cause the extinction of a breed.

Once the Pit Bull is gone, which breed will be the next one demonised, I am not a Pit Bull lover, I am a dog lover and I hope that when I judge a dog I look beyond its breed and look to the more important traits.

The Pit Bull was bred for pit fighting as were many other breeds of dogs from previous centuries, the Pit Bull was also bred to never be human aggressive unlike some other breeds. Are we going to persacute other breeds due to their original purposes such as dogs bred for bear baiting and dogs used in war against warriors?

A terrible tragedy and nobody is going to try to trivialise the fact that one person was killed and another person has to live with witnessing such an attack BUT I am not ever going to sit back quietly whilst ALL Pit Bulls are demonised by the ignorant and the media brainwashed masses.

It has to be stated yet again that there are many trigger points that cause dogs to do such an act of violence, these include

-Poor socialisation

-Constant chaining/isolation

-Abuse and torture

-Neglect

-Trained by dog fighting monsters to become aggresive

The American Pit Bull Terrier is not a human agressive dog they were known as the nanny dog until some sub cultures tried to destroy them and their reputation.

The PitBull excells at what he is trained to do, they make superb therapy dogs, fly ball dogs and they try to please their owners, it is people who are betraying that love and trust but the dogs that pay the ultimate price

If you look on their website they are looking for models and their Pit Bull type dogs from all over the world, it would be nice if an Aussie submitted a photo.

What a lucky little dog, to be found three weeks after the tragedy. I hope the owner is still alive

I cant praise Topspot kennels enough, my dogs(and cat) love going to Topspot. the staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the kennels and cattery are spotlessly clean, my dogs are spoilt rotten at home but seem to enjoy their holiday at the kennels

All summer I worry they will be home alone when a bushfire comes, then in winter I worry the combustion heater will blow up and set the house alight, I worry they will get stolen( I dont know in my logical moments who would really want them...lol)

I am not usually a worrier but I feel that it is like leaving human toddlers home alone. Funnily enough I dont worry so much about my son, I think it is because he voices any issues he is having and can communicate and I guess I dont leave him home alone

I am feeling ever so slightly optimistic lately that we can eventually overturn BSL here in Australia and go for the far less offensive non breed specific legislations. Even a small victory somewhere in the world helps strengthen the cause. Italy has overturned its BSL laws, some states in America have been taken to court recently and their laws have been challenged and overturned(Oklahoma I think)

There is even much debate in the house of Lords in the UK as to whether it is constitutional to kill dogs based on breed/type. I hope that for every court victory -such as Bruce in Northern Ireland it makes the beuracrats a little bit more unsure that genocide is the option as one day they are going to be sued for a large amount of money by an astute dog owner.

I believe the recent case won by the dog owner in Oklahoma is now going further with the owner now sueing the city for court costs and stress caused by the BSL laws.

We need legislation to protect our Bull breeds from the monsters who abuse them not the other way around

Nobody needs to own a Pit Bull but there are people in the community who love them dearly and as Cesar Milan said to truly appreciate them you have to be loved by one and know how big their hearts are and how much they multiply any love given to them and return it with every ounce of their beings.I am angered and sickened by the amount of poison and venom that is aimed at the Pit Bull by ignorant people who have allowed the media to brainwash them against a lovable breed of dog.

The Pit Bull has been exploited and abused by sadistic members of our society and been demonised by the general public for long enough, maybe if people spent more time reading some of the positive press about this much maligned breed they would feel compassion and sympathy to these beautiful souls :D

What if.......the people who sold them the dog did no temperament testing?

I really want to know what the full story is and where the family got the dog from...until then I am making no judgements except to say this is an awful situation for all and I am so sorry a child was injured.

We cant blame all dog attacks on bogans and restricted breeds. Dogs are dogs and by nature and prior treatment they can and do attack occasionnly, disasters happen, the poor victim doesnt care about what ifs.....

Wiseguy you have made it blatently clear your hatred of Pit Bulls and their ilk, maybe time to get off that particular bandwagon as there are many people who do like pit Bulls and find your relentless attacks on them insulting

That poor little boy, I hope he heals physically and mentally. I am suprised however at my sons schol by how many people have their dogs tied up at the school gate whilest they go and collect their children. One woman ties her Lab right at the entry where it barks and lunges at people/children who walk past it. I will be telling her about this incident as she seems impervious to other comments.

Not all Pit bulls are owned by bogans There are plenty of Pit Bulls owned by responsible dog owners but the media isn't interested in portraying their favourite monster as a loved and loving family pet.

What we as a dog loving community have to do is stop the infighting between us and turn our focus on stopping the spread of bsl before more innocent dogs are caught up in this witch hunt. We dont want to save Pit Bulls by causing other breeds to become targeted, we should be aiming for each dog to be judged as an individual regardless of breed/type or look of the owner. We are not allowed to do racial profiling on people so this should also be applied to dogs.

A dog should never be taken by council rangers because of what they may/may not be.

My sympathies to the police officer who was attacked trying to serve the community. What is just as tragic however is the abuse that this dog must have gone through to become so human aggressive.

For a Bull Breed to become so HA there is almost always a history of abuse and neglect and downright cruelty to bring about such behaviour, the owner should have the book thrown at him and be charged with animal cruelty on top of what ever else he has coming.

Although it sometimes sounds hollow to the ears of people who dont care if BSL is more stongly policed and Bull Breeds more heavily legislated against we really must blame the deed not the breed, it is not the dogs fault that a sadistic criminal chose them-most probably because they wanted a dog that the public percieves as a monster, lets blame the owner not the dog who is as much a victim as the police officer.

Slightly off topic but I was told many years ago when I was walking my Staghound by an old man that the South Australian legislation on muzzling dogs in public dates back to the late 1800s and states all sighthounds must be muzzled in public places. I am sure this is a bylaw that would never be policed but is anybody aware of this?

I live down the road from people who think their Kelpie just "hangs out" while they are at work all day, based on the fact she is home when they leave at 8.30 in the the morning and home when they arrive home at 5.30.

During the day however young Rosie is chasing cars that pass her house, wandering to different peoples houses to find some human company and lying in the middle of the road sunbaking but owners aren't worried as she is just hangin out

I have told them a number of times that she has been in my paddock but this doesn't worry them overly but I can see disaster happening if she goes into other properties or chases my old sheep.

I dont think what you are thinking is very sensible,dogs will roam they arent robots.I live on acreage and I wouldnt dream of letting a dog wander the property to "guard" it too many dangers for dog and stock. Also having pet dogs and a guard dog that is left to its own devices seems to be a bit odd, are you looking for a dog that will look after your sheep or your property?

My dogs aren't show dogs but I am fortunate enough to show two beautiful Borzoi for my elderly neighbour. I visited her and pestered her for years to see her dogs and make sure they were all well until finally she offered to let me show them, I am now hooked and have met many great people as a result

I have often had people call Yogi a Greyhound, he is a big Whippet but not Greyhound size, he has also been called a Tasmanian Tiger and my sister calls him snake neck puma body, she only gets away with it because I call her terrier x a toilet brush terrier in jest.

Not so amusingly I have had people tell me that Abbie is a Pit Bull in a rude manner and one person called her a pink pig

I would never tell a person their pet/child looked anything derogatory and find it the upmost rudeness that complete strangers feel they can insult my dogs.
