  1. Oh Earl, you are putting your family through lots of stress and heartache sweetheart. Sending you and your family all our love and healing vibes :)

    Why do we have dogs when they can cause us so much emotional upset at times, but one look at Earls big squidgy face and all the expense, stress and truama mean nothing compared to his health and unconditional love he gives :hug:

  2. The Australia wide rallies are a great idea, we have to remain focussed on the bsl issues and not get drawn into infighting between different factions, the only agenda is saving innocent dogs from a barbaric legislation and educating the public and media about unfair prejudice about breed bans that have been proven to be ineffective.

    I look forward to attending Adelaides rally and have been encouraging people to come and show their support :)

  3. Aargh, how did I not see this thread :banghead: Yogi would have loved to have gone lure coursing.

    Earl and Rosie look like naturals, Rosie was channeling Yogi by the look of the photos. Pele is the most versatile girl I know, she pops up everywhere doing everything, last time I saw her she was about to go in the ring for Neuter in show :thumbsup:

    Count me in for the next big lure gathering.

  4. It is very easy for people to call for cool heads and rational thinking to prevail but we must understand that it is a very emotive issue and many innocent lives are at risk due to this draconian legislation.

    I truly believe that we are seeing the thin edge of the wedge in Victoria at the moment and there are other breeds that will be placed on the list.

    Other countries opened up bsl by adding a couple of breeds and then once they had been in place for a couple of years many other breeds were added to the list until suddenly some countries had DOZENS of breeds on their ban lists Denmark has even banned th Corgi :mad

    Whilst we have to be careful of misinformation and half truths we have to be vigilant and follow up on all that we hear or read about.

  5. SURELY THESE DOGS DESERVE DEATH!

    When they came for the pit bulls,

    I remained silent;

    Surely these dogs deserved death!

    When they banned the rottweilers,

    I remained silent;

    Who needs these dogs?

    When they came for the guardian breeds,

    I did not speak out;

    My dog was not one of these.

    When they came for the large dogs,

    I remained silent;

    My dog was small.

    When they came for all dogs,

    there was no one left to fight with me.

  6. It may also be that the owner didn't want these dogs living a life as a 'dangerous dog'. Yes it is possible for someone to put the time into dogs with this label and all the associated restrictions, but if that is not possible for them then perhaps they did the right thing.

    Shame on COUNCIL for putting silly restrictions like this on dogs because of who their parents are!

    Even if the owners didn't want the dogs living under the shadow of the "dangerous dog" tag they should still have had the courage to have the dogs humanely killed by a vet rather than dumping them at the pound.

  7. I would NEVER hand in one of my dogs to be killed due hysterical media hype so I am thinking the type of people that would do such a thing obviously dont have a great love for the dog and have never treated them as a family member anyway. :(

    A person who would rather surrender a dog to be disposed of by a stranger in an unfamiliar, scary and stressful pound envoironment rather than to take it quietly to the vets and hold it whilst its life slips away is nothing more than a coward and doesn't deserve to own and be loved by a dog anyway :mad:mad:mad

    Graeme Smith from LDH infuriates more more by the day with his hateful comments, that man is a dog hating sociopath who doesn't deserve to have a job such as he has, where are the calm cool headed people in this whole sad situation........

  8. Voted no and will do again(and again) I feel literally sick at the moment with this media driven anti-dog campaign, Rotties and Bull breeds are only the tip of the ice berg I fear. As I was listening to the radio on my way to work on Monday morning some lunatic rang in to stir up hatred towards Greyhounds :( apparently they are muzzled in public as the will rip your jugular out if given half a chance :mad:mad

  9. Breed choice is very much a personal preference and I would never judge or cast aspersions on another persons choice of breed. I remember reading on an American Pit Bull forum site that it is ver hard to explain the great traits and special joy there is to owning a Pit Bull other than to say "it is easy to judge a breed by media hype but to really know what one is like you have to live with one.

    Well I dont own a Pit Bull but I own a bull breed and I am enchanted by the joy of life my girl has, her eternally wagging tail and wiggly butt, the goofy smile that is so often on her face and how gently she plays with her brother Whippet always letting him win tug o war. I love how she loves nothing more to curl up in front of the fire with my son letting him use her as a head rest. I was instantly impressed by her ability to adapt to life on a farm with sheep, cows and horses and a very feisty black cat after arriving from Canterbury pound in Sydney.

    So when you judge a breed by jaundiced media accounts remember that hysteria sells papers and advertising space the truth often gets pushed aside for the sake of sensationalism. My heart breaks for all the dogs being targeted in Victoria at the moment and I fear it is only the tip of the iceberg!

  10. With humans if a body has to be removed from a grave it is called an exhumation for the first ten years after interment and a certificate must be acquired from the states health department. After ten years bodies are sometimes removed from their graves and a process called "lift and deepen" is done so another person can be placed in the same plot the grave digs are paid according to number of years of interment! I once prepared bones for an osary box and they had been in the ground for twelve years, all that was left was bones and hair and a small amount of connective tissue.

    I think that as long as dogs have not been wrapped in a non biodegradable material they should be well on the way to being just bones.

    As an alternative to cremation have you considered placing the bones in a nice osary box? They are really nice and have a very medievel feel about them.....

  11. My two dogs let me share their bed ;) I do prefer them under the blankets with me though as one night they had me pinned down by sleeping on either side of me on top of the blankets with them pulled so tightly on top of me they had cut off my circulation, I woke up in terror as my legs had gone numb :rofl:

    The cat is banished from the bedroom after decapitating a mouse on the bed during the night whilst I was asleep :eek:

  12. all of the above, but people who can forgive a newbie a little mistake here or there, with a smile. It does wonders for a new persons self esteem and confidence.

    I have just survived my first year of showing and if not for the support and help of a group of wonderful(hound) people I would have given up in despair and embaressment. It means everything for a newbie to be encouraged and guided through the many perils and pitfalls of the showring.

  13. The worth of a country and its people is judged on the treatment of their animals, we are complicitly condoning torture by allowing our livestock to be exported to these torture houses. Australias shame and Indonesias worth are now being aired for the general public, it is up to us to voice our disgust and stop this indefinsible shame now.

  14. Many years ago I visited a station near Alice Springs and had the pleasure of meeting two of the most beautiful Roo dogs, soon afterwards I became the proud owner of a Greyhound x, she was the most gentle easy going dog I have ever owned. They are part of Australias pioneering history and there used to be farmers who put a lot of care in developing some good lines.

  15. The Pit Bull is just an average dog, he is a loving trainable dog with a huge capacity to be a great family dog with correct socialisation and responsible ownership just like any other type or breed.

    Dont demonise a breed that has enough to deal with. the myths that have been made up by the media and pro BSL lobbyists is laughable and I am suprised that so many "dog lovers" have bought into the rubbish.

    The Pit Bull is tenacious and has a never give up charecter, whatever he does he is going to give it 110% ths is why people have so much success training these dogs to be therapy dogs, sniffer dogs and they excel in many dog sports when they are given the chance to shine.

    Unfortunately the same loyalty and tenacity that he gives to his responsible owner he will also give to an irresponsible/cruel owner who wants to use the Pit Bull for cruel/inhumane activities. He fights to the death for a monster and it is the dog that we hate, when did we lose sympathy for the victim of abuse :mad:mad

  16. I had a Kelpie,a Cocker Spaniel and a Greyhound x when my son was born, the Greyhound x was never too worried about the new arrival and just let him slip into the pack, the Cocker was delighted by the smelly, milky little person who shed food and slobber everywhere he went but Jess my Kelpie spent the whole time ignoring him and in the ten years they shared their lives together I dont think she ever truly acknowledged that the kid was going to be permanently with us :laugh:

  17. I get sad too. Each one that comes in gets a can of yummy cat food before they leave for the bridge, and a quiet talk and cuddles. This might sound corny, but I say a little thankyou to them too, for their donation. :o

    I think the reason there aren't more blood banks is the huge cost to run it. As well as the APVMA fees etc. Canine Blood Products are registered just like any other veterinary drug these days, and to say this is time consuming and expensive is an understatement. :)

    Thank you for the compassion and sympathy you show to these dogs, a small kindness that they deserve but often dont get. I think it is a far more fitting end to a noble hound than being shot and dumped in the bush, at least it is not completely pointless.
