  1. If you think about the length that most terrier breeds were docked traditionally, they were about a hands width in length. perfect to grab. But then some breeds like a dobe were docked shorter, if on attack they couldn't be readily grabbed by the tail and thrown off balance, hence possibly losing the impetus of their attack.

You do see a number of terrier showies lift their dogs onto the table in the manner you are referring to, with some breeds it is done so the "hairdo" is not messed up before the judge views them.

  2. I don't remember the brand name, but the stuff I found very effective for my boy, right through the teething stage, was a natural based product with bitter lime taste. I bought it from "Fantastic Pets" in Narre Warren, Victoria. But what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. Some have had better results by using Crib-Off, a stop chew designed to put horses off chewing the tops of stable doors, etc. The trick is to get in REALLY early, like, BEFORE puppy receives any enjoyment out of chewing an item s/he shouldn't. In those early days I followed my boy around and anything he remotely looked interested in (even though he hadn't actually put his teeth into it yet), I'd call him away, go spray it, and then watch to make sure the spray was sufficient to work.

I will also confess - I don't think my boy is a chewer, so I think in that I have the easy end of the stick. However, I'll never really know that. Maybe it was my good training :D ..... I can tell you that I bought and used a few bottles of the stuff at the time.

BUT, as I said, it's a matter of using the spray to deter BEFORE the chewing on forbidden items becomes a learnt behaviour. Chewing even just the once can constitute "learnt". I tend to find that people generally wait to see what puppy has chewed and then follow up with the spray, which is why I think the success levels with spray are lower than they could be.

Few different ones on the market, probably Rudducks Bitter Bite, Bio Groom Chew Stop, Bitter Lime. Most should be available at your local pet stores.

  3. Hi Erny, I just got in some new toys in, pop in one day and have a look. New ones are from "Safemade" and are oven proof so you can actually cook the treats in them!

Most of the toys people have mentioned I have available.

We are thrilled to announce that our girl Maisie gained the final points for her title today and will now officially be known as Ch Beadale Gold Nuget. Maisie joined us a little under 12 months ago having been bred in SA, had a home in Qld for 15 months, a home in Tassie for 10 months and has a forever home with us. Love this little girl sooooo much :D

    Big congrats to Maisie :champagne:

  5. Dog Rocks do work when done correctly, I've found that when people don't get good results they are changing the water too often and hence losing the minerals from the Dog Rocks. Make sure you are using the right ratio of Rocks to water, only top up the water, if you really need to wash out the bowl tip the water and Rocks into another container, wash the bowl then replace the Rocks and water and top up if need be.

    Hope that makes sense :D

You might be onto something Austerra. I am a clean freak & regularly clean their drinking water. Start again with fresh water & put the rock back in. Maybe this is where I am making a mistake. Will try your suggestion

    Much appreciated. :)

Just bear in mind too that most dogs will happily drink out of the fish pond or a muddy puddle, maybe they get some minerals naturally that way, tap water is so purified nowadays. They really don't care if it's not crystal clear. :)

  7. The square ones, not the ones that are made for the back of a vehicle...

And the smaller ones i think they are around 24".

There are two levels in Savic: Economy which is black wire and Deluxe which is steel, for 24" I would tend to sell for $55 and $70 respectively in a retail store.

  8. Great store you have there at Beaconsfield, easy to park especially doing deliveries,

The ferret guy called me today from the Vic Ferret Society, wanted to thank us for the feline food and let me know how well the ferrets are doing on BlackHawk feline, i could not believe how many ferrets they rescue, a really nice guy very passionate about the ferrets, was nice to hear

    Regards

    Sherel

Went and picked up another 20kg bag of dog and puppy food... Totally love the new branded bags, makes it look very professional too.

Sherel, can retailers purchase the 20kg cat food bags to sell? We got our last lot from Nicholas who delivered it. Tried a retailer and they said they could only get 3kg bags?!

Love Black Hawk... We have 4 cats, 3 dogs and 1 pup all on it!

Retailers can get it, I sell it in my store for $82 (bit less for Dogs Vic & DOL members). Whereabouts in Melb are you, my store is in Beaconsfield. I have a couple of regular customers who buy it (one does ferret rescue and that is what he feeds them)

Thanks for the compliment on the store, I think most of the delivery guys and customers love the parking too. Andrew with the ferrets is a nice guy, very pleasant and polite.

We're in Mill Park. We go to Greensborough or Thornbury

Bit far to other side of the city :) , if you show your dogs I could always bring one to a show that we are both entered in. Otherwise just ask again at your local stores where you get the dog food from, they could get it if they tried

  11. My sales rep gave me a bag to try, the dogs loved it and seemed to be doing well on it, but I couldn't stand the smell (smelt like milk gone off :vomit: )

Interesting about the off milk comment? Did you find it was comparable to the other brands on the market, I thought that the price looked good, in fact I think there was a buy one get one free offer?

Comparable in what way do you mean, ingredients/cost?? I'd have to check the price, as I said it was a free bag to try before deciding to stock it in my store.
