  1. Do they still make Timid Joe Kadbury? Thats a blast from the past. I've heard of a couple who use Plush Puppy - obviously started as an emergency/accident and they still use it lol. I just can't go past the smell of I.O.D :)

Wonder how the Chris Christenson products like Gold on Gold or Black on Black would go ..... The possibilities are endless lol

I am sure I saw some Timid Joe's on my travels - in a pet store somewhere while I was doing some retail therapy.

Is it a specific IOD shampoo that you love the smell of? When my puppy arrived following a long journey she still smelt really good so I contacted the breeder to find out what she used (Aloveen). Nice smell to have under your nose when sharing a bed.

Timid Joe still very much available, I have a few older people that come in to buy it, younger ones don't know about it and generally won't use a cake of soap. It is great on dogs with itchy skin, after all people use Coal Tar shampoos for psoriasis, sometimes the old remedies are the best. Any one know if you can still get Rawleighs Salve, "good for man and beast" I seem to remember was its catch cry.

  2. No idea on whats on offer or what schools are in QLD.

here in vic I am just about to start TAFE and do Cert 3: Companion Animal studies.

heres the link if your interested:

    http://www.nmit.edu.au/courses/search/no_keywords/all/fairfield/animal%20studies/all/false/5/0/1

I did start a correspondence course many years ago but then the company went bankrupt so lost my money and found

that some other correspondence courses wouldn't give me credit for the work I did previously, even though they sounded like the same.

I couldn't find any courses at TAFE in melb relating to Just Grooming.

Perhaps approach a TAFE on Orientation week and ask what they offer & how to get in.

    Good luck in your search.

  3. I've always found with my kelpies if they ever look a bit light on I just feed them Advance and they stack on the weight very quickly. I recently had a customer with the same problem, told her about this so she tried it with her dog and within a month it is looking a better weight without being too heavy.

Also ox chhek is great as it has a higher fat content.

  4. Molly enjoying her bed. They're great cos you can remove the cover and wash it easily. Love their designs too. My link

    What a great idea..

They are a great concept, lovely fabric, generous sizings. I've sold heaps of them, with even more people saying that they will come back for one when in need of new bed (or when they are ready to clean out the wardrobe).

  5. Does anyone know why they have changed the packaging to proper packaging with pictures and stuff on it? Will it start costing more?

For the sake of prettyness and making it look more like a genuine product. I don't think it will make the product cost more.. they changed it over quite a while ago.

I beleive it was due to at least one other company putting their food into a white bag and labelling Lamb & Rice Holistic (but not being the same ingredients) so BH had to differentiate itself from the others trying to cut in. They have not increased the wholesale price.

  6. As korbin13 said make sure all the family understand not to feed anything apart from restricted meals.

When I worked at kennels many years ago the owners had two old house dogs (Cavs) that were as fat as mud, we were down to feeding them about a dessertspoon of food to no effect. Then the owner realised that the sweet biscuits were disappearing very quickly from the pantry and accused her daughters of eating them too quickly, they said they hadn't been at them, so after bit of surveillence it was found that the owner's elderly mother (who had alzheimers) was hiding the packets of biscuits in her handbag, that was always next to her chair, and feeding the cavs with them. From then on bickies were up on the highest shelf!!

  7. Thanks Showdog. My friend's Cairn seems to me to have a good coat. I don't have much a clue myself about hand-stripping, although my friend showed me what she was doing and she seemed to know how to do it. Was more the wondering about whether it was the undercoat or top coat that should be stripped and why it needed to be.

I've passed on the message from AusTerr that she'd be welcome to pop in to see her at AusTerr's Pet 'n' the Dog store out this way in Beaconsfield. It's a small world, AusTerr - that my friend passes by your shop and was the one to pick up some of my dog's Black Hawk food supply on my behalf :D. So your offer to explain and show when she comes to you the next time for supplies is not only helpful but convenient :thanks:.

My pleasure, any time I can help just get in touch. Funny that your friend was already one of my customers, like you said it is a small world.

  8. The coat is stripped to keep the texture and promote the new hair growth. If grooming for pet most people just end up having them clipped, hand stripping can be expensive to get done at a groomers, so if this is what is wanted it is worth learning how to do it. We usually charge $50 - 55 for a cairn clip, stripping is charged by the hour (usually works out about $100 or so including bath).

  9. You'd probably find that most show people would roll the coat, so you are basically plucking out the longer hairs all the time. When you are on the move sometime I could show you the basic process on my Aussies, just ring me at the shop (ie BH supplier) and I can arrange a day to make sure dogs are with me.

  10. As per the title, what is the correct grooming technique and tools? Asking for a close friend whom I am with ATM hence this message coming via my iPhone. Apologies for any spelling errors - not as easy from the phone :o. Ta muchly in advance :).

Missymoo may help you on this, should be hand stripped.

  11. I'm going to give BH a go for my two. We have been on Royal Canin Medium Adult for years but thought a change might be good. I'm literally down the road from one of the Melbourne Distributors (Porky's) and i've just picked up my first bag. They had it down to $79.00. Great value. Hope my doggies like it.

Pet 'N' The Dog at Beaconsfield sells (everyday price) Adult Dog 20 kg for $78 and Puppy 20 kg for $82, if Dogs Vic member even bit less.

  12. Well rebbanne accept my humble apologies , as I said if I had noticed it earlier I would have done something about it,BUT I missed it, that must have been while I was writing up entries, booking accommodation, organizing ribbons and trophies, getting the office cleaned, grass mowed, cataloge printed, numbers out, shopping done so that the exhibitors can have an enjoyable show, as you noticed that group 4 was missing, maybe a phone call for conformation, and then I would have been aware of the mistake.

BB aa I said it will be all sorted Thursday , and yes we do have an idea where the rings will be, but we will wait, as I said to see how it mows up,

Austerra thanks for pointing that out, I would love to have 276 group 7 but no such luck, we will just have to settle for the 76 entered, see omg another typo that got past me, and others, opps

Wasn't your typo, I think edgesmum was having dig at MY typo, numbers obviously 480 to 556 for Grp 7.
