  1. Thanks Just thought I'd pop in a pic of Annie with some of her winnings...we couldn't fit them all in the photo, so just put the high in trial one in (I think we ended up with 6 ribbons- quallie, winner Novice, highest scoring Northern Member Novice, highest scoring Northen Member, highest in trial AND our title!) To say we scooped the pool is an understatement!
  2. There's a guy who regularly comes to our local off leash park and does tai chi/made up exercises in the middle of it. He gets more and more angry the more dogs go over to see what he's doing. I mean, what dog isn't interested in the man nearly standing on his head? They're not supposed to do that! I once asked him why he chose to do his exercises in the middle of an off leash park, when he could walk 200 metres to the right and be where dogs have to be onleash, to which he angrily replied that he pays his rates and can do what he likes. His morning calm exercises aren't working for him.......
  3. Well done to everyone on their results. Well, today Annie and I finished off our Novice title in style. We earned 197, winning our ring and highest in trial. So proud of my girl, she worked her butt off
  4. At our trial on Saturday, we lost one point in the recall, and that was because she finished about a half step too far forward and a little squiffy. So frustrating when this happens. She'd been finishing a half step too far back, so obviously we've over corrected it!
  5. Well done! that's a great job you've done. The next pass will be easier as you know you can do it now We got a lovely pass in CD today in horrible windy conditions. 195, ended up high in trial! Thanks for the lovely trophies Sunbury, I needed a new vase :D.
  6. Annie and I have just discovered dog chocolate. I must say her enthusiasm is astounding me! And I break them into tiny pieces too. We have a trial this Sat that I hope she'll continue to show the same enthusiasm for
  7. Must be an Aussie thing as Annie does this too. I was told that when she brings it to me to turn and walk with her still holding it. Sometimes I walk backwards, but with her walking beside me at heel it seems to stop her spitting it out. I then just reach my hand down and take while we're moving. this was advice from a very senior member at my club (one of the very few who have actually trialled) We've progressed to sitting in front with it now, but as soon as my hand touches the dumbbell she releases it. It's up to me now to make it look like I'm not catching it
  8. I have the hard copy of the gazette just need the entry forms which are on my computer. I have just recently backed up my hard drive, so the file should be on that. Entry for one trial is due tomorrow (I'm good at leaving everything to the last minute!) But thanks for the offer :D
  9. Aaaaarggghhh. I'm trying to enter trials and computer has had a meltdown and won't load. Going to have to see whether some friendly neighbours are home. Off to the computer doctor this afternoon.
  10. One of our Aussie terriers bit a bee that stung her on Christmas Day and we were up in the country away from vets! Luckily it was on the side of her mouth and didn't interfere with her breathing! Finding a vet that was open Xmas day was impossible- had to go to Werribee from Castlemaine! And even then we had to wait until Boxing Day (we're going back about 15 years here)
  11. Congrats TO and Seita I have my biggest brag ever tonight. Today was the Victorian Aussie Shepherd Club's Open show and obedience trial (herding agility and jumping are on tomorrow). Annie and I entered in Novice and won our ring with 189 We also ended up with High in Trial! :D SUch a good little girl I'm so proud of her. She's the first dog I've ever trained, and she's making it so easy for me
  12. Where's the like button? I've been applying dog training principles to my kid training lately, and it's starting to pay off! Dogs are still easier though......
  13. Hi all. I have an obedience trial on Saturday, and my babysitter for my kids has fallen through... my husband has been called into work and my mum is sick. Apart from the inconvenience to me , does anyone else become annoyed when there are children at a comp? This weekend is a restricted to breed comp, so not as big as a usual one, and I can "lock" them in the car whilst I'm in the ring and therefore not able to supervise them. For the record, I have 4 boys ages 10, 8, 6 and almost 4. They are not rowdy kids. I'd rather not pull out as I've been looking forward to this trial for a while. My dog will probably not perform her best with them around, but I think I could make it work.....
  14. I've just got back into training after having a few weeks off (apart from bits and pieces around the house) Took Annie to the park today for a quick session and it was so lacklustre It might have been me though as I'm a little off colour. Tollersowned, which trial have you entered? Might be at the same one.
  15. Congrats to all who did the ET at Altona. We were planning on joining you but the timing was just not right this year (girls and their seasons...) Oh well, there's always next year!!!
  16. I don't think we're in season early... maybe by a week or so. She was last in season in December. What a pain as she was working so well. But I have to look on the bright side- it means that we can do the Aussie comp end of July, and the workshops at the Albury shows early August without worrying about seasons!
  17. Well done at Hastings TO and murve.... pity there were no passes. And big congrats to Ava and wuffles! I knew we should have done Hastings, not Broady... Well, we were all set for our first Novice trial tomorrow, and I've just checked Annie with a tissue . Why couldn't the little $%^#&% have waited ONE more day!!!!!!!
  18. Good luck for Hastings! I was planning on joining you but my entry got lost in the mail and arrived too late . Thankfully my entry for Broadmeadows on the Sunday made it in time, so I'm not trial-less this weekend! Quick question from me too... if your dog sits when you return from the SFE, is that an NQ? We never had this problem until training last night (go figure!) and she did it two times in a row. I hope we've re-inforced that she stays standing now, but you never know .
  19. I agree! I had Aussie terriers as a kid and they were perfect for us. I now have 4 children of my own (10 thru to 3) and we added an Aussie Shepherd to our family. She has just the right amount of energy for us. If it's a cold rainy day she's happy with a DVD on the couch, and she's equally up to a long bike ride or a kick of footy in the park. She's also very protective of her kids.
  20. There's apparently a big outbreak of Kennel Cough in the western suburbs of Melbourne at the moment. A local doggy daycare put a notification up on facebook, and my husbands work mate has racing greyhounds, and apparently it's running rife through them I think my dog currently has a very mild case of it here.
  21. I'm hoping to do Hastings trial too! Hopefully see you there. There's always the chance that Annie will come into season early though..... Bad luck at the weekends trials. I've been lucky so far in that only one sit or drop has been missed.
  22. Our old girl was a fanatic tv watcher. She loved AFL, and anything with animals on it. When the theme music for "Totally Wild" would come on, she would come zooming from wherever she was to sit right in front of the tv to watch. Annie only occasionally watches- but that Deadly 60 show was watched intently. Hope she wasn't taking notes about the police dog!
  23. Well at the trial yesterday my nerves weren't quite as bad as I thought they would be, except I initially forgot my left from right!! Judge kept talking to me between exercises though- asking me if I kept a training journal and what sort of things we put in it and that didn't help much with focus! But we ended up with two decent passes and our CCD title yay! On to novice...
