I am going but just entering Rally Excellent. Waldo has had so little training due to his injured leg I was too scared to enter CD. Maybe I should have. This will be our first go at rally Excellent.

Yay for you and OWW (occasionally wonderful Waldo) .
Never thought of him as OWW but it fits-love it! Thanks.

No trial brag but.............
after 12 months of working hard to teach a mini schnauzer a formal dumbbell retrieve without back yard zoomies
this morning he did it!!!!!!
"Waldo the occasionally wonderful" was wonderful
and yes I am pleased (or relieved)

Great work Tassie!
Agility trial for my two yesterday. The feral 11.5 year old had a fun day - and for the first time ever, I think, managed 8 runs without any off course DQs - . She was naughty on the weavers in one run, and naughty with the table (haven't had one for a while), and I caused a couple of bars down by bad timing, but we ended up with 4 Qs - 2 in Open Jumping, 1 in Open Agility, and best of all, one in Masters Jumping, which gave her the last one she needed for JDM3 - clever girlie.
And .... drum roll please .... although the lil big man had some kid in a candy shop moments with the contacts in Novice Agility (who knew that contact suck would trump tunnel suck  ), and couldn't do his weavers in the excitement of a course, he was still trying to listen to me. And in Jumping - one great round with one fault - refusal caused by me not trusting my dog, and ..... one Q. SCT was 35 seconds - the man did it in 23 - and that was with one little bobble when he followed my line inside a jump - but took the redirection and got the jump - not called refusal because he hadn't been making a focussed approach to the jump - phew. His time on the one fault course was 19 seconds - but not sure what SCT was on that one. So very, very pleased with my boy - the last 5 jumps on the last course of the day were on a super arc out of a tunnel - and I didn't have to tell him anything - just ran the line -not even all that close to the jumps, and watched him fly! :D
Love my kids!

Do you have the Melbourne dates?
Nothing is 110% confirmed yet but it will be over the weekend of the 23rd/24th :)
Interesting way to spend our wedding anniversary...with a dog instead of DH

Do you have the Melbourne dates?

Our dogs have stayed there 3 or 4 times. It was fine. Cindy was spoilt rotten. Sucked up to the volunteers and got so many cuddles I am not sure she wanted to come home. My daughter's border collie x stayed also and was exercised well.

How was the second trial?
-
So...the trial was last night....
Rilla was so calm but I was a nervous wreck, which (of course) really affected out performance in the ring. My sister took a video clip of me either the phone & I watched it as soon as I finished. No wonder my poor dog wouldn't do anything! My signals were WAY out, my body language was completly off - Oh my goodness! I think Rilla took one look at me at the beginning & said "you've clearly gone crazy Mum! Oh we'll, guess I'll do my own thing" LOL! I'm laughing about it this morning. I've got to go back tonight & I'm hoping I won't get as nervous!
On a more successful note - we ran the Rally-O course after that, it was heaps of fun & I was surprised & happy to hear at the end that we'd gotten a qualifying score of 92! I'm not actually sure what that means - I thought they had to get 3 qualifying scores under at least 3 different judges??
I'll take a pic of miss Rilla later with her medal & certificate :D
Sounds like my first trial! Just breathe!
You need 3 qualifying scores to get your title under 2 different judges. take heart and great encouragement from that score. It is ABSOLUTE PROOF that you and and your dog work well together so use that to remind yourself in the ring tonight. Just remember that the judges want you to do well!

Well done Tassie

I am so frozen & exhausted, having been out in the freezing high winds, rain & icy cold, at day 1 of The Dogs Victoria State Obedience Trials today, that I MAY have already, posted this, elsewhere, by mistake. If so, hope you will forgive my shameless bragging
My 4 year old silver Standard Poodle, "ROXY", formally know as Dual CH. (O.CH.) Cosalta G'day Roxy RAE JDX AD ET, won the final run offs & the title of Victorian top Obedience Dog of the Year 2013
This is my 4th year in a row, winning the title of Top Obedience Dog in the State. The previous 3 years the finals were won by my older Poodle "VIOLET CRUMBLE"
She worked very well Linda! Very well done and much deserved.

What about local attractions such as good walks, places to take your dog for a swim, does a vet have a speciality, where to go for training, etc.
The other thing I would think about is a stall for those thinking about getting a dog-where to buy them, what to think about before hand, etc.
-
Done and they had mini-schnauzers on the list
-
I have used the concept of understanding a dog's genetic history rather than "pedigree" with a couple people recently and they both grasped it clearly. Neither are considering doodles now.

Is there less risk with cutting the quick with a dremmel? I use a normal nail clipper occasionally but I am very chicken about cutting too much and causing a bleed.
I am too chicken as well. My daughter does Waldo's for me. Perhaps I should get a dremmel?

Well done Linda! 2 UDX passes. Violet is just amazing as well.

Miss Kirra has a brag. She did a really nice job on he Track & Search Test 4 today, and passed with a grading at the high end of Good. I could have handled her better to avoid some of the little excursions which brought her grade down a bit, but she worked really hard for the whole kilometre..not bad for a feral 11.5 year old :-).
Well done Tassie and Miss Kirra

Waldo is recovering from a torn muscle and had his first swim at WoofPurnay yesterday. He HATES swimming. He had a life jacket on and was fine. The first 2 laps he tried to get out but I kept swimming him. After 3 groups of 2 laps each he was still trying to get out and clearly knew where the exit was but was happier. The attendant was excellent and took great care of him.
To go just a bit off topic-It was hard not to laugh at times though. Poor Waldo just escaped the crate and now his mean mum is doing this to him. Just wish I had a camera.
The costs are wrong on the web page. It is $25 for the first swim and then $11 per swim or $88 for the card of 10 swims.
