  1. I have a few pythons and they are usually good once they are out of their enclosure. When you feed them in their enclosure they get "cage defensive", in that they will be looking for a feed when the door opens. I always hook mine out before touching them with my hands and they now know the routine. Once out they are all sweethearts, water pythons included. They and olives are the smartest of the Australian pythons.
  2. No, he is trancing, a common thing i have just found out. A lot of dogs do it. I reckon its cute.
  3. I thought Id make a thread just for this mongrel. He is a Ridgeback/Amstaff/Kelpie. I was at a petshop looking at the mess the pups were being kept in and making mental notes ect, as you do. A young girl rocks up in an old holden with a box of pups on the back seat. She is upset that she has to take her pups and sell them to the pet shop. In the box,6 pups, all tan coloured with defined ridges on their back and one black and tan with no ridge. I was there with my daughter and she and i fell for the black and tan. The girl told me they were ridgy staffy crosses and i believed her. The shop wanted to give 50$ each and she was pi$$ed at them and so was I I bought the black and tan off her for $100 and took her number and told her id get rid of the rest of her pups for her and she should take them away and not bother with the petshop,,grrr. Anyhoo, found good homes for all the pups and 4 years later, here we are. Cheers Oh yes, i saw pics of both parent and they were nice looking dogs to.
  4. Ok, I got some footage of my Jack dog doing his thing. What do you think? Cheers Sue, Bart is awesome, he your boy?
  5. Great post spottychick, Its good to have a resident large snake on your property as he will keep other large snakes out. 'Better the *devil you know than the *devil you dont' I always say, and now your rid of him, the next tennant may not be as agreeable. To bad about his demise. Snakes have different personalities and some are laidback while others are flighty and scared. I spose it depends on what experiences they had as to how their attitude is. The tiger snakes and copperheads of Tasmania are the most beautiful of all and on my youtube channel i have footage of some of my captive bred tassie pets. They certainly cannot climb colourbond fencing and is the best,if not the most expensive, way to snake proof an area. Cheers *I dont really think of them as devils
  6. Hi PossumCorner, Tuppaware does have many uses huh. Brown snakes have a particular way of standing up high in a double s shape and they can be quite daunting to catch when they are big because they are so fast and flighty. We release within 5kms because the dse think that will keep the genetic information intact for each locale. For instance, they wouldnt like me to release a Dandenong tiger snake in Portsea because, naturally they would never mix. Animals on the islands and in Tassie are a different kettle of fish because they are all truely locale specific. Hey Corvus, if it wasnt for humans, cars and..dare i say it..domestic animals..the wildlife carers ,controllers and refuges would have a lot less work on our plates. Im all for minimal impact to but we always get call for animals that have already been impacted on, if you know what i mean.
  7. Snakes wont bite a dog unless the dog initiates the confrontation. The only time a snake will bite a large predator,dog/human is when they fear for their lives. Using bluetongue lizards in a controlled environment, dogs have been trained not to go near reptiles. If your dog has killed a bluetongue,it needs to be watched as the chance of snakebite is increased in these dogs. Bluetongues are not differentiated by dogs and to them they are the same as snakes. Now, im not an expert in the field of dog training but I think the combination of your training collars and the use of live tame reptiles and even shed snake skins will keep your dog safe. FYI do not rely on the electronic snake repeller, they do not work and yes, we have tested them on wild tigersnakes. Cheers
  8. Thats it Rebanne, but Jack gets into it heaps more. Piper is very cute, love the music, lol Ill make a video of him doing it today if i get time.
  9. I can release them anywhere within reason.I wouldnt let them go close to anywhere where houses.I am on the peninsula AussieDog and I am lucky because there is a heap of scrub and national park around. On the licence i have for this, it says i need to relocate them within 5 kms of the catch site. If i cant do this i am supposed to euthanise them. Thanks to everyone for the comments. Cheers
  10. What a cute pic and the muscles on the pitty are amazing
  11. All the dogs that i have seen do it have some sort of bullterrier in them. My m&m has ameriacn staffy, kelpie and ridgeback in him. Thankyou BullyT
  12. You do a good job corvus, does your nickname come from a love of corvids. I raised a raven that was bought into our shelter, had him for a year and released him softly into our yard here in Mornington. 3 years later and i am listening to him now still. He has a family in the pine tree out the back and still mooches scraps of us. I dont think i was tormenting the snake,I saved it from a redneck with a shovel, i let it come out of the tub on its own and i followed it with the video camera. I picked it up so i could take it to the reeds/dam and find water straight up. The"shiela" is my lovely wife Karen.
  13. Thankyou Anniek, that sounds exactly like it. Can you see the funny side of this ritual?
  14. Thats one opinion, hey ..do you speak for the whole forum and all its members?
  15. Thanks for the reply persephone and poodle fan, he does look like hes looking for a cat or something. He only does it when walking around bushes and shrubs, lol. I dont think its dominance or poop related. Cheers
  16. Why do dogs do "the slow walk" My dog ,and ive seen others do it to, does this funny stiff legged walk slowly around bushes, sometimes cars, like he stalking something. Its quite funny to watch as he get a real serious, worried look on his face when he does it. Can anyone offer a theory as to why they do this hilarious ritual.
  17. I was called out to remove it from a property, im licenced to do this, id love to leave them alone and this was a release of a rescued snake. I have been relocating and saving wildlife here on the peninsula for many years. The reason she was pissed was because she could smell freedom after being in the tub and she was letting me know she wanted to go now. I was actually steering it towards the reeds so she could hide. I think she was pregnant, hence her girth. Cheers
  18. I was called out to this snake because the property owners wanted it removed. Thought it might be of interest to some of you. Cheers
  19. This Black Shouldered Kite was a great success story with a good release The little sugar glider came in last week The mother Koala didnt survive the dog attack but the joey did and is still in care. Non dangerous snake from the Rosebud area. These are White lipped whip snakes and are easily mistaken for dangerous snakes. Shadow the possum Clifford the elephant seal, didnt make it and died (was euthanised) on Mornington boat ramp That was a heartbreaker. This galah has seen better days but made a complete recovery The tawny frogmouth chicks are always cute and always hungry hope im not boring you guys Cheers
  20. I havnt got much in the way of pics but I thought I'd share some of the animals that have come into our care here. Here is a wattle bat that was relocated. This is the bat box used to relocate the little guys (there were three of them) A baby plover Another shot of the plover A Boobook This raven came in a baby last year, now it live in tree near my place and still comes and hassles me for food sometimes
  21. I was reading the thread thinking why try to lay blame on the dogs owner, the parent, the dog or the toddler. Newspapers love a dog attack and always try to make as much of an eyegrabbing article as possible. Its the ramifications of the article that can have the negative effects that can damage the reputation of a breed. Sorry if i sound naive but its my first day here and you guys have probably covered this subject till the cows come home anyway. Cheers
