  1. Yes he has some breed in there that I just can't put my finger on but nevertheless he is a beautiful boy & I got some great photos of him at my uncles farm this afternoon
  2. For anyone interested to know how the skinny Staghound boy from West Wyalong is going (particularly those who donated to help bust him out) he is now called 'Maloney' or 'Boney Maloney' He is a great dog & updates & photographs can be found here >> http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150420790560825.349439.670435824&type=1#!/pages/Scruffer-Lovers/133033863464795
  3. Oh we have so many of them here! Nearly half the dogs in this town are Stag or stag crosses, the sheer amount of bogans is enough to make you shudder... I don't want to pigeonhole pig hunters but... mmm, we don't get the 'stag' types down here but I have seen plenty of them in NSW my own 2 were adopted from Wagga & I have rescued many from around that area. What I find scarey is that those people actually produce offspring too! ;)
  4. I know, so sad I used to be a member of a couple of other big scruffer type groups on facebook but the sheer stupidity of alot of the members was enough to make me leave, I didn't realise such dumb bogan shits actually existed? So many people who were so misinformed. Hence why I started the 'Scruffer Lovers' page as somewhere positive for people to share etc.
  5. yep have done & no probs I hope you find something suitable SSM
  6. Are they are rescue who desex or a for sale only site ? fifi Not a rescue & sell to anyone desexed or undesexed
  7. I used to privately help the scruffers & rehome them. Most of them came from NSW, although a couple came from here in SA. Anyway haven't done any for a while but got sucked in by the skinny boy from West Wyalong & he's here now He will be available once he's put on some much needed condition. Unfortunately I do not know of anyone in Victoria though My dream is to have a facility to rescue the scruffers If you have facebook I have a page set up for Scruffer Lovers called 'Scruffer Lovers' http://www.facebook.com/pages/Scruffer-Lovers/133033863464795 maybe post on there or keep an eye out as others post on there too. Not many 'likers' but it couldn't hurt I will keep my eyes & ears open too.
  8. I was hoping to find a thread on this! I'd never heard of it before but bought a bag of it at my local fodder store. It is made by Ford Foods in Vic. Anyway it looks & sounds good so thought I'd give it a try with my 2 & also a new foster coming in on Friday. What results have you had Cosmolo? Would be interested to know how pets have improved (or not) from taking it...
  9. I am so sorry for your loss I know that feeling well You did what you felt was best for Jessie, and she is at peace now
  10. nothing, no harsh cleaning products, no airfreshener or insecticide. I'm just taking a guess that it could be that, but she's been sleeping in there with me & my other dog for ages now. I've attached a couple of photos, first pic is what she normally looks like & second pic is of her about 2 months ago, you can see she has lost some hair & her eyes are a bit puffy. Now she has pretty much no eyelashes at all & very short hair all over her face. I thought the antihistamines would at least have a small affect, but nothing
  11. yes she has been on antihistamines. She is fed quite a varied diet. Supercoat dry, chicken frames, beef heart, sardines, beef soup bones. Occasionally eggs. Sometimes dog rolls, scraps & whatever really. I don't have a strict diet for my dogs, never have. I have tried feeding her just dry or just frames & nothing changes. No changes have happened for her to be so itchy, it seems to be more so at night too & when she's been in my caravan. They live just on dirt but mostly always have so not sure if that could be causing it. Would just like to get more advice & preferably from a vet who has experience with skin issues.
  12. How annoying, esp the dead Blue Tongue My old dog (rip) had one in his mouth once when he was young. I disciplined him firmly, he never ever touched another. Luckily the Blue Tongue was fine I can understand how frustrating it must be, I spent over 10yrs rescuing/rehabing wildlife, reptiles mainly. I was & still am learning & always kept an open mind as so many don't, although I am no longer involved with it but I used to receive the same kind of call outs, some people just don't know & others well... But you do it for the love of it. BTW do you record each callout for a rubber snake? You'll have to let us know how many you got for the year
  13. Hi all, Just thought I'd ask in here if anyone knows of a vet in SA that is good with skin conditions in dogs? I have a usual vet but I've found they're pretty clueless as far as skin issues go. My girl Elsa has been scratching her face quite hard for the past 2 or so months. I have tried giving her revolution, Malaseb washes around her face, Cort-hex cream, antihistamines & natural stuff. I have added/subtracted things from her diet & nothing She has never had any issues before now & it's got to the point that she has now scratched off her beautiful long eyelashes & the hair around her face is extremely short. She had little scabs on her head but now it just seems to be around her eyes that is swollen. She rubs her head on the lounge & even on me to itch it. When she scratches she does it so hard that I think it must be painful. I just don't know what else to do, because it's obviously not diet, there's no plants in the yard, it's just dirt at the moment. Nothing has changed really. I would like to be able to chat with someone who is experienced in this field & for them to be able to have a look at her. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
  14. no words, except there are some f#@$en dumb people out there!! :mad ETA this should be shared on every dodgy facebook animal selling site!
  15. Deerhound / Staghound / (Sighthound in general) zoomies are the best, so looney yet so graceful, I love them when they are running flat out
  16. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/8383594/dead-soldiers-family-adopts-his-loyal-dog Click the link for a video. A British family mourning the death of their son in Afghanistan have adopted a stray dog the young soldier befriended on duty in the months before he died. Paratrooper Conrad Lewis, 22, wrote to his parents that he planned to bring his canine friend, Peg, back to the UK when he returned from war-torn Afghanistan in April. But Private Lewis never made it home. He was killed by a Taliban sniper in Helmand Province on February 9. This week his parents Tony and Sandi wept as they welcomed Peg into their family in Claverdon, Warwickshire, after the dog was released from six months in quarantine, the Daily Mail reports. Pte Lewis formed a bond with the stray dog in the military compound and wrote in letters to his parents that he had taught it to sit and shared his rations with it. It is usually military policy to destroy stray animals in the compound, but local commanders made an exception in Peg's case. "It's understandable, you don't know where these dogs have come from, they're not innoculated, they could disrupt what the guys are going to do," the soldier's dad told the BBC. "But the local commanders can make a decision, and in this case they did, this dog was far too cute and they looked after it." Do you have a story about a loyal dog? Please let us know by sending an email to [email protected] Animal charity Nowzad helped the family rescue the dog, paying about $6000 and enlisting the help of the Afghan army to hide it in a bag and airlift it to a shelter in Kabul. Vets then cleared the way for the dog to be flown to Britain. The family has since paid the charity back. Mr Lewis said the family was delighted to welcome their son's dog into its new home in time for Christmas. "Conrad's spirit is very much here in Peg. She is the link to everything he did out there," he said. "We have a large picture of Conrad resting against the wall and Peg walked over to it and seemed to bow her head. It was very touching."
  17. My old boy who has now passed (January) had a turn & for 6 months after things went downhill pretty quickly. He had arthrtitis, not as bad as what your girl has but still not very good. Was panting excessively, struggling to breathe & after vet appts was told he had a heart murmur & fluid on the lungs so was given meds but that only worked for a short time (had to be done twice daily) & I didn't want my dog on meds for an extended period anyway. He lost bladder function, not completely but still he would be very unhappy when this happened. I knew when it was time & I didn't want him to suffer anymore. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do but I owed it to him & I went in with him & he fell asleep in my arms, it was very peaceful. I am not going to tell you what to do & in the end it is your decision. Do what you feel is best for your dog
  18. Comfortis, flea bomb every 3 months (as others have already said) & powder bedding etc. like you said you had done. I would wash dogs first though.
