  1. Thank you! Our two definitely keep us entertained :D Love, love, love Kelpies!
  2. question > does anyone remember a book (maybe for teenagers, maybe not) but it was a novel, with a dog which I think was either a Wolf or Husky & it may have been called Sascha or something like that? It was based on a true story I think, in Northern America. I really liked the book, read it in school but can never remember the name!
  3. OMG! What breed is the second one? Is it a Deerhound X? I WANT it. Tashi is a Deerhound x but have no idea what with! He was rescued from the pound, he has the funniest pointy ears with scruffy bits around the edges & I have no idea where they come from! I still remember when I first brought him back & my sister saw him & told me he looked like a 'dump dog' but having seen pictures of Picardy Shepherds he kinda looks like them (but isn't)...... I'll think about it! ;)
  4. Loved your photos Koalathebear & B-Q! I think once my two current dogs pass I would just be a one dog person again. Not sure if it's the breeds I've chosen or just the fact I have 2 but I miss the loyalty I had from my old dog. Anyway, here's some pics of my current 'pack' Elsa & Tashi
  5. I wish I would see these things before they happen *sigh*
  6. Great Working Dog Stories is great! And also 'From Bagdhad with Love' 'Coming Home' was one of my favourite books as a child.
  7. Hoping to get there one day, can't come to the 16th now because I start work on the 14th :D bit of a bummer to miss out but looking forward to getting there eventually!
  8. SHAME on the PM. What a joke! She & her partner obviously have ZERO common sense! The sooner she is gone, the better! What a disgrace!
  9. RESCUE Organisations especially need to be more transparent! But would be great across the board to have more transparency!
  10. if it was at a desgnated dog park & the dog killed a possum (not with any humans commanding it to) then that would be accidental, but not sure of the legalities at a park that is not for dogs, because as others have said possums are protected in Australia. Might be worth a call to your local Environment Department which in SA is now DENR- Department of Environment & Natural Resources,
  11. I had a problem on my walk last night! Walking past a house & I had seen this Kelpie under a car in the drive, she then comes out to make friends with my 2 who got all excited at meeting a new friend lol. Then the owner comes out yelling with a huge metal pole in his arms wanting the dog to come to him but it just cowers & is running behind my dogs for shelter, I try to keep walking which is impossible as I'm all tied up & Elsa who is afraid of men & anyone holding something is completely flipping out. I stop so his dog won't get run over & then it runs into a bush & hides, I just keep walking. I know I should have said something like 'MORON as if you're dog wants to come to you when you're yelling & waving a pole around' but he was a bit too scarey to mess with. If it happens again, I might see if he wants me to take his dog off his hands just made me angry & ruined a good walk especially when Elsa was on edge for the rest of the walk
  12. You know the foxes came from fur farms, right? How do you think they are kept there? yes, originally. It still does not justify keeping wild animals in that way.
  13. I also was flicking through channels & came upon it when they had the BC on. Then it went to the Silver Foxes & I had to turn it off after a few minutes. IMO there is NO reason to do such "research" I am sick of "research" that occurs without benefit & it happens all the time. Sometimes humans need to learn to leave things be & not interfere with nature! We truly are very selfish beings.
  14. would love to go next time, I'm sure my dogs would chase that Just couldn't make this one, also is there any way to have another time for it? I don't mind early mornings it's just that I would have to leave super early to get there from Murray Bridge. If not I'll still come, great organising guys & let me know when the next one is! :D
  15. I thought the same with my 2 sighthounds that is until I went half way round Aus with them. Just me, them, my car & belongings. I had no other choice but to put trust in them not to run away with some of the places we stayed at & they surprised me! My male will always have selective hearing but I trust them more now & am glad we had that experience. They run around offleash at my dads place & my grandfathers farm, although if they sighted a cat or bunny it would probably be a different story Last time I took Tashi to my grandparents farm he spotted a bunny & gave chase, with me yelling at him he actually did stop I won't tell him though that he was too slow anyway LOL! I think a proper lure course would be awesome but I'm up for anything
  16. Yep Lurcher - Wolfhound or Deerhound x Collie, typical in UK. I have 2 Staghounds, both rescued from Wagga Pound, definitely worth keeping an eye on the Country pounds or on here under the Dog Rescue section. I used to rescue the scruffers in NSW country pounds. If you have facebook try looking at 'Owners of Staghounds' or 'Staghounds of Australia', there's a lady on there Natalie I think who rescues alot of Sighthounds & I put a friend onto her & she adopted a beautiful young female Wolfie x from her. You will find alot of knobheads around these groups but there's some really good people too. Hope that helps!
  17. Was also going to recommend Cot Mattresses, for the price of a dog bed you're better off going for the Cot Mattress. Not sure about covers for them though? Still interesting to check out some other good ideas though too
  18. If I can do anything, please let me know & if I can I would be more than happy to help Although I have absolutely zero experience with Lure Coursing :D
  19. I think the first step is to make a list of all the existing lure courses in Adelaide, because I think we should confirm that we can't use any of those before we try and make a new one. Also if we can have a list of everyone who would be interested - perhaps state your name and the breed of your dog/s. Jacqui: doberman cross Alex: 2 Staghounds
  20. more from that day here. If you cant find anywhere to course your hounds perhaps you could form a club, or at least get a group of interested people together, buy yourself a drag lure, or if someone is clever enough, make one, and organise your own days. Your dogs will love you for it. I'm certainly in X2
