Hi, Just wondering when Kelpies are fully grown? Also, my girl (just 7 months today) sometimes limps but only after resting, then all is normal when warmed up (like arthritis). Not all the time, come and goes, she plays a bit rough. Nothing wrong with her when I take her to the VET Thanks everyone.

What To Do About Chewing/eating Her Bed
sallyandtex replied to becandcharch's topic in General Dog Discussion
Someone on DOL suggested Eucylptus Rob (Vicks vaporub), not sure if it was successful! -
Yes, Kelpies. Thanks for the tips. when "Bringing the toy back with food", how do you get them to not drop the toy in preference to the food? One is really not food focused...but VERY excited when I run alongside, jumping up sideways on me unfortunately

I can't beleive how slack your council is! Like the others say., ring and hassal them, plus the police. Maybe the RSPCA could help regarding the pup. I thought it was ILLEGAL to do this to dogs?? In the meantime, the hose should work wonders. We have a weimerana who runs around in our street, and a quick hose sends him off when he has come into our driveway. GOOD LUCK!

You should probably go to a leash area with the little kids. Even so, keep her close by and supervised. Maybe get hubby to take care of the littlies in the evening and have a kid-free walk with your pooch! (good for you and pup!) My kids are older now, but when they were smaller, my daughter got bowled over by a large dog, very frightening.

We have Kelpie X siblings (now 5 1/2 months). They have a big walk in the morning were they get some off lead time to tire themselves out. They LOVE to run. They then sleep most of the day about 10.30-3pm. They have some play time and training in the PM, or another short walk. If you don't have time to amuse your kelpie it will get bored and destructive. You can have a "legal" sand pit where they can dig and lots of toys they can rip up! Hope that helps! :D

Thanks for your tips. Just to clarify.. those that say not to use one, the loose lead walking is Ok when pups alone and training. When they get together to go to the park they PULL!! Too excited and stimulated by the environment I guess. I just wanted something to stop the choking in these times. I'll look into your other suggestions thankyou very much, as I said, the Easy walker works great, but I will try anything (and keep up the training!)

Hi, Got 2 pullers. Easy walkers are great BUT, they have discontinued them locally. I could buy online but like to try for size. Any body out there have used a lead that attaches to front so it stops the pulling? I don't want one on the face, and the dog trainer said not to get a back attach one as it still makes them pull. Many thanks

It's strange, but my sibling pups seem a bit "racist" Given a group, they are attracted to certain breeds, even tones of another dog! One is bigger and brown, and goes for the more chunky, and brownish. One is classic dark brown Kelpie-ish and goes for similar to play! (But they always try to catch the whippets if they are around LOL) I try to go when there is only a small number, and they really enjoy playing those other than themselves.

How To Complain To Other Owner Nicely
sallyandtex replied to sallyandtex's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hey thanks everyone for the feeback! Today, I checked out who was there before going through. Took them off lead as there was only about 4 other wellbehaved dogs there. The pups had a great run around. After about 10 mins it got busier, so I managed to put the dogs back on lead (quite a challenge!) and kept walking to the end. On the way back I went the long way around to avoid the ever growing "Pack". -
How To Complain To Other Owner Nicely
sallyandtex replied to sallyandtex's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well said! I just feel like a new kid at a new school, and thought some people might have some same experiences they could share. We are locals, and had been coming to the park with our (now deceased) 17 yr old dog, well before the dog group formed. Just wanting to socialise the pups and "get along" with the others. Other ideas welcome please! -
Hi, We have two, 5 month pups. We have finally braved the "dog club" that congregates in the middle of our leash-free park. Until now we steered clear. it was great the first 2 times, as I could un-hook the pups and let them play with other dogs instead of each other! Unfortunately, there are 2 owners who have no control, and yesterday they bullied my 2, who , after I intervened, scampered on top of some picnic tables. The owner were oblivious, and continued in their chatting. I said loudly that I would put mine back on lead, and take them. then the owners came and put their dogs on so we could leave in peace! Anyone know of some way to gently tell these owners that they need to watch/control their dogs, especially around pups? It was great having my pups socialize, and I fear i will have to avoid that park area, but that's NOT FAIR! We should be able to use it safely too. Thanks ;)

Oh I'll try that. Did the peanut butter, but Sally only licked it when we held it for her. Tex is SCARED of the Kong, won't go near it!
-
;) We have twin 5 month old kelpies. Trying to spend time separately. That is, one amused whilst some training with the other. Got a medium Kong (expensive bit of plastic!) Won't the peanut butter get stuck up the end? I'm not organised enough to remember to freeze the night before (plus I have two to entertain at different times, I guess I'll have to spend another $20). (Having 2 kids, 2 cats, 2 dogs and a hungry husband) Any SIMPLE other suggestions besides the peanut butter? Got pigs ears, but they eat 'em up pretty quick! (i'm going broke ;) ) Thanks

What a nerve!!! Tell him to go jump in the lake (I wanted to use stronger words). If you are in a position to take the dog, be that a condition. If not, move on. tell him you will send the RSPCA around to fine him for not looking after the dog. It's a try-on alright. What a Class Number One Jerk, and Jerkette girlfriend. The weakest piss-ant people in the world play on the vulnerabilities of the kindest. Good Luck, and GO GIRL, you must be glad the union of you and he was broken....you are truly the winner.

We find it economical to feed mix of puppy dry and raw pet mince from Aldi (kangaroo mainly., very low fat) at dinner. Brekky they have dry mixed with porridge oats (raw) and egg/milk mixture. Oh, and the odd raw banes to chew. WE had our fair share of runny poos, vet said it's just a puppy thing they get the runs sometimes.

Hey, just a word of warning...DON"T buy an expensive bed! They rip it up!

Old dog (now deceased 1-2 poos/day) New dogs 2, 5 month old kelpies......BUCKETLOADS each day. Male does much bigger and much more than the female, even tho same food!

Hi, 2 pups 5 months old. 1 will chase stick, but then drop it. Other only goes for it when her brother has it (not when I throw). Any links or tips for "catch", or are they too young???

5 Month Kelpie Siblings F&m Aok, ?need To Panic?
sallyandtex replied to sallyandtex's topic in Puppy Chat
Makes sense! Like controlled crying with the babies! He did sort of settle after a while. Yes, Jigsaw, he hadhis plastic bottle with dry inside (usually loves that), but maybe since he had breakky not that long before, he wasn't interested. might get some pigs ears (yuk) they really seem to go those! -

Hey your doggy family sounds great! I am going to have one around with me inside for a while and then rotate. I am a bit worried about house training while I am working! They are pets mainly, and also Sally has showed her form at being a Centry, alerting to any intruders! (Tex is indifferent) They are outside dogs, and seem to thrive on that, digging, chewing and playing games in their yard. Well., off to choose 1 to be with me for a while! (Hope the other doesn't carry on too much!!!) Cheers, K P.S. They have had a great together walk this am already and usually have a rest right now. Well., predictably, Tex is crying out there, usually when they are separated there is another family member to amuse them! How long should I listen? Sally has settled in her "good" bed, but is getting up now and then for a wander. Oh crumbs she won't settle...happy to do a few training tricks and follow me out to hang the washing, sees her wimpering brother, no worries for her! Wee wee in the bathroom (luckily). Back to the yard now after 1 hour. Kisses all round. Both settled for a sleep Tex's turn this PM. I've gpt work -

Hi, We have 2, 5 month Kelpie pups, PULLERS!! The puppy school lady suggested the easy-walker. They are a god-send!!!! YES THEY WORK. Got them cheap at Petstock about $10 each Stops them pulling by the front attachment, and if they pull, makes them walk weirdly (not hurting). Only trouble is that we can't go back to a collar lead! (They choke) Maybe they will mature into non-pullers.
