  1. Hello, 2 year old Kelpie (Sally) likes to embarrass me at the park! She scoots her bum.,breifly, when around other dogs. I get the "she's got worms" but she is FULLY covered once per month. or "It's her anal glands" but there's no irritation with redness or swelling. She's been doing it for ages now, and ONLY at the park around other dogs. She never does it when we don't see other dogs, or at home. I always forget to ask on DOL as I forget about it when at home. Could she be "marking" her scent? TA
  2. I know this is bit off your query, but have you thought of putting aside $10-20 a week into a high interest account? (not term deposit, but like a Rapid saver that pays same % as term but you can access your money) We do this for ourselves($50) and our pet($10) and our money is growing alot. Only MUST NO TOUCH it for anything else but health and vet. Any insurance is worked out according to the risk. Just a thought!
  3. It's not the taste of human blood it's the reward from exhibiting the behaviour. If he learns to aggress to get what he wants he will keep doing it. Sounds like balls out may not be a bad start but needs a good behaviourist too. I know this guy is clearely in denail but you could suggest k9 pro? (I havent read other responses yet) Are they in Newcastle?
  4. Could you get some sort of foldable mesh gate to put across the annex? Crocs ARE a worry. Or I have seen those 4WD with top racks that fold out a tent
  5. That seems to make a bit of sense, but the lady and her older female dog were just minding their own biz and he went and grabbed "attacked" the lady. Its really sad, such a nice dog now seems psycho. Neckbet you might be right about the behaviourist and training, but the owner is a bit of a hippie and currently he doesn't even take on board others calls to leash the dog. I hold grave fears for the dog. Anyways thanks for the insight, I thought the "human blood" thing was a bit rich.
  6. Hi, Just a query from you experts out there, as there is alot of theories going around the local dog park. A guy who walks his BC at the lead free park is in denial about the growing aggression his dog is showing. The BC is 18 months and NOT desexed. He was fine as a pup and played great with the other dogs. Lately he starts fight with other males (unprovoked). I thought it might be that he is not de-sexed, as we had a dog that did this before we had him "done". The BC dog has more recently bit both his owner (admittedly while stopping a fight), then last week bit and tore off a ladies skin around thumb that required surgery. Everyone said please keep him on lead but owner didn't listen. Council has been informed. Some people are saying that it is not a hormone issue and that the dog is aggressive, and once they have 'tasted human blood' they will continue to attack even if desexed. i find this hard to swallow. What do you think????
  7. Hello, Sally got poisoned by a toady. She was sneaky about gobbling it up! Been watching hner like a hawk now. They get washed up at the lakeside or kids catch them and toss aside. She's OK now but be careful everyone!
  8. thanks so much everyone! Will bookmark and compare.
  9. Hello, I've asked this before but lost my history! Got flea stuff from priceless pets., but I need joint guard 400g. Sally is limping again, and the JG really works for her. I have found it about $70 best price but the shipping varies a fair bit. Any suggestions on some sites, as I have just spend 1/2 hr trolling thru the web. Thanks. P.S. Its $90 at Pet barn, so not much saving online if $70 odd Dollars plus 10-20 postage.
  10. Hey thanks guys. I ended up getting Confortis etc online at priceless pets (never thought of ebay), and also the Interceptor for the Heart worms/other worms JUST IN CASE! Plus another lot of Revolution for the cats when i run out of Advocate (I don't think it works as well as Rev for the cats). They were great and only took 2 days to get here. Bedding is cleaned and out in the sun (if there's any) each day. Love my new floorboards! Will use the Frontline spray when the ticks rear their UGLY heads again ):
  11. Well I thought it must be allergy, BUT I SAW one on her only a few days after applying the Advocate. Vet said it's the dry coat, thought I would give a chew the go. Looking at the web, seems the Confortis only does fleas and not Heartworm. Sentinel does both but I saw mentioned on DOL that you need something to knock the adult fleas as well with Sentinel???? That's why i posted my question. P.S. having 2 cats also I need to get the buggers before they explode! (The cats are treated but don't swim )
  12. Oh Ok I'll try on-line Just some back-ground as i had posted this before but clarifying the comments... Have used revolution with succes, but only lasts 2 weeks because Doggy swims plus washes X2(no soap) per day (resulting in a lower oil coat) Switched to Advocate and it lasted ONE week. Wanting a tablet for a swimmy dog. I am a bit uncertain as to why I need to buy 2 products. Cherio
  13. Just reposting from last week to get a response before i go BACK to the petstore to buy: So if I use Confortis (only killing adults), I will need an additional product (Sentinel Interceptor?) to control the reproduction from eggs lurking in the dirt? Thanks!

  15. Fleas!!! I can't beleive they are BACK. I have used Revolution with success, but as my girl swims X2 per day, it only lasts 2 weeks. Tried Advocate last week, only lasted 1 week! Thought the chew ones would be better with a swimmy dog. (PS I don't shampoo, only rinse or use soap free) Any advice which one? P.S we have 2 cats we treat as well.
  16. Maybe its an allergy She only eats a small amount of dry food mixed with meat, and no probs with lamb or beef bones. Oh well I guess I'll just keep her off it....pity I can't keep her out of the surf too!
  17. Hi There, Just as a relief, maybe try Calendula Tea. Erny on this forum suggested it, maybe do a search. It really works to soothe. Also we have used the special Baby powder Cornstarch and Zinc.
  18. Your pup is TOOOO cute! Our cats soon let our dog (now 18 mons) know who's boss! One of them now even plays chase, but the other is more guarded. Great advice form the other DOLers
  19. Thanks for the recommendation. What if you had a curious Kelpie puppy that likes to lick everything? Hey, we have MILLIONS of ants so don't try to kill them all, but we put a line of vasoline across their track or (around the poles the house is on) if coming into the house. Tea tree oil works for heavier concentrations.
  20. Hi, Just as a matter of incidence with doggies out there... How many of your dogs have had doggy runs after eating raw chicken? My other dog never had this problem., and I am still not 100% sure that this is it for Sally (as she sometimes takes in salt water on swims). 4 other dog owners I have spoken too said raw chicken gives their dogs the runs. ATM I am sticking to lamb/beef bones instead. Thanks
  21. Sounds SMART to me. Using her feminine charms! I am told Sally(18 months) is submissive all the time with other dogs, yet she senses any her age or younger she will challenge them to a wrestle or run!
  22. Really? Very interesting. I wonder if they are smaller than the dog ones?
  23. SOmeone told me there is a difference between cat and dog fleas, so i need not worry about the cat fleas when de-flea my dog???? Of course I de-flea both, but aren't they the same thing, or if not, bite both species of cat and dog?
