  1. Eastern Suburbs and Leichhardt OB run on Sundays. I'd love to find a Saturday one too. Can you PM me with details if you find one, I'd also be interested to do a Saturday class when I can't do Sundays.
  2. So glad Carter is on the mend Talk to your vet about the game plan but I would ease him really slowly back into bland low fat food when he gets home. Small meals frequently during the day usually does the trick, when my boy was recovering we were giving him about 1/6th of a can of Prescription i/d and built up slowly to 6 times daily (or chicken and rice which you can make). Soup is good to keep them hydrated I just boil a chicken frame pull out the frame, let it cool and skim off the fat and let him drink the soup (fat is not your friend if you have a pup with d and v). Don't worry if he hasn't eaten for a while, mine survived without food for at least 5 days (although he was on a drip). All the best hope he continues to improve when you get him home. Edited to add...we need a picture of this cute ball of rotti fluff :D
  3. I vote this one for crazy face expressions. Absolute gold :D

    Water

My boy absolutely loves swimming. We owe his good swimming style and love of the water to an 8 yo female rotti that taught him how to swim when he was a pup. We didn't force him just let him follow the other dog. There were many trips to the beach though where he just played like a crocodile and wouldn't really go in the water before he got the hang of swimming but eventually he got it. Another swimming dog to show him what to do might help.
  5. These are pretty tough my boy tries to tear them apart with 2 other dog playmates and its lasted a few months (which is good for us) http://www.ozpetshop.com.au/product_info.p...roducts_id/1792 I also bought him a squeaky rubber bone that has lasted better than most toys squeaker bit was gone on the first day but because it's flexible he has issues damaging it http://www.petfood247.com.au/epages/pepe68...oducts/92-43035
  6. I've sent you a PM all the best with your new rotti pup. I hope that the testing was a false positive caused by vaccine. If you need any tips with parvo happy to assist my rotti boy had parvo and thankfully we got him through it. Parvo is really the pits and their digestive systems need alot of TLC afterwards. One little tip, regardless of the cause of the d and v ask your vet about Protexin for your pup now he's on the mend. This is a dog probiotic which I think greatly assisted getting my boy back to good health. Welcome, the rotti owners on the breed sub forum are also very helpful and knowledgable if you need any further assistance.
  7. Love the orange ones...here's another redhead. My old horse, Lisa the fly pony and the pretty face underneath
  8. This is my camera on my phone...so not the best... Water rotti zoomies... I love all the zoomie pics! Just gorgeous, dogs in zoomie mode always give me a giggle
  9. Hi girrafez here's another website for you http://doggo.com.au/ I will send you a PM about parks around my area.
  10. If you want to get involved and assist the local action group here's the website http://balmaindogpoisonings.webs.com/
  11. This woman is clearly an insane lunatic with no rational understanding of effective deterrents or behaviour...I mean as if putting down random poison meatballs for random pets really fixes the poo situation. The dogs that are getting poisoned are not even necessarily owned by someone that doesn't pick up their poo, these owners may even be like the vast majority of this community and pick up any poo that may have been left behind at the same time as they pick up their own. Most owners around here are diligent about cleaning up after their dogs so it is just too stupid to comprehend. There are many members of the community, rangers and police watching out for this harpy though so hopefully they will catch her and fine her the $22K. I would get advice on whether I could personally sue for my vet costs if she'd poisoned my dog as well, may she go bankrupt and/or rot in a gaol....
  12. Ludicrous statements such as these only serve as authorisations for owners not to take any responsibility for training their dogs. Edited to say ditto to Allerzeit, Aussielover and Grumpette. I can also attest to the fact that my rotti boy is very social and well liked for his laid back placid temperament and friendly disposition within my urban environment. I run my business from home and have people coming in and out all the time with out a problem. For a 'guarding/fighting dog' he's a dreadful let down
  13. I know how awful it is to see pups with constant diarrhea. So glad you found something she does well on. Yay puppy pal
  14. I'm sorry if that offended you and came out the wrong way, that was not my intention and I have deleted my post. I used to play round at ag shows with horses so I do know what you mean just my experience is limited to an entirely different animal. All the best with getting the info you need. Edited to add: My dog's breeder shows dogs and their policy is C3 (or similar) at 6 weeks; C5 and C7 at 12 and 16 weeks.
  15. You poor thing hope you and your daughter are OK. I hope to god this GSD wasn't in my area of Sydney. Irrespective of where it was I hope they find it and put it to sleep, unbelievable that someone would have a dog like this running around near a school with little kids. I've heard putting umbrellas up dog's face can deter dog (who knows if that's true though...who has an umbrella or anything they need in these situations...). I hope you find some nice dogs again shortly for both you and Miss T and you hear of this GSD being removed from the streets quickly.
  16. Number 4 gets my vote. Do you work with natural light at dawn or dusk? My hubby's camera/photography boys love these times to shoot (he works in events). Sometimes they use reflectors to redirect light accordingly. I have helped hubby design stage/mood lighting for events and I must admit I really don't always like the look of things which are lit directly from the front. Then there's this whole world of lighting gels (colour filters) you can play with too. Here's some vids for you: and some reading specifically on night photography: http://malektips.com/spectacular-night-pho...tal-camera.html
  17. We've completed this experiment hide & Seek game while getting mail = major zoomies...I wish I got a photo...he was zooming through my tiny front yard and garden for a good 15mins...clearly said leg is not so painful as to deter zoomie activity... Thanks CW EW I'm glad his main socialisation is done and dusted and one less thing to worry about. I might try the target training and take the stir crazy little fella out with me in the car tomorrow
  18. recall is the only thing I'm a little scared to train at home. He responds at a flat chat gallop and I feel I'll undo his responses if I train him to come to me at a plod...kind of have to keep him plodding for his hips. I guess I could do the short distance hide and seek game The excitment of training can be a little much for him sometimes and then I feel bad because I've caused him to get so excited he might injure himself more. Hubby was doing some downs stays with him while lying on the couch throwing treats...this resulted in said puppy getting so excited he got major zoomies, grabbed toy, zoomed over the top of hubby and lept off the couch...so funny and yet so not good for his recovery so we have to give 'too bad' command, take toy away and 'crate' until he settles, his zooming would usually be done outside but alas we can't allow that either... This week husband and I have been working on getting him to retrieve and bring us certain toys its a quieter activity that doesn't promote zooming he has to think about which toy. Scent work could be another good one when he sniffs around he seems to remain pretty quiet. So I have plenty of homework and stuff to keep us busy I guess I just was more concerned that his reactions to outside stimulus like other dogs people etc might change over time if he is relegated to the house at this age...
  19. CW EW Diesel is 1 year and 1 month tomorrow. He is a good boy I was reading this article though and got myself all flustered Ian Dunbar - Adolescent Changes. I'll try not to stress so much, the real stress will be if he needs a hip replacement and 3 months recovery I guess I should cross that bridge when I get there. RuralPug you make me laugh my husband thinks I stress more about his training than you would raising children but I guess I'm just committed to making sure he is the best dog he can be. I'm not sure whether raising human teenagers is analogous with dog teenagers (haven't raised either before). But I can confirm my pup hasn't started hitting me up for pocket money to go out with his friends yet :D
  20. Ever since my pup was a wee ball of fluff we have been diligent about doing everything we can to keep our boy well rounded, obedient and an acceptable member of the community. He has recently gone lame and requires some rest time (2 weeks) and may be more if we have more issues (he is getting x-rayed for HD if lameness doesn't resolve itself). If it is HD and he needs a hip replacement he will need alot more time recovering. I am somewhat concerned that all this time relegated to the house might result in some change in his ability to deal with outside stimulus. Is this something I need to be concerned about in adolescence after extensively socialising and training him as a pup (and doing so up until recently)? Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with that? I was thinking about taking him for drives like when he was a pup and not vaccinated in the car so he could sniff see other things also walking him out the front or taking him out somewhere keeping him on leash and sitting with him and something to chew, play with to keep him quiet and then when I can heading out for light on leash walks and to OB club on leash to do quiet training rather than running around the park or wrestling his buddies like he would usually do. We do daily obedience at home. That is just part of our routine, I like to have consistent and correct responses to my commands. Any tips much appreciated, it is only early stages but I just want to make sure I have a plan in place that we can implement that will result in the best outcome for him and not undo all our hard work so far (if that does even happen...). Edited to change the post title I realised "Detraining the Adolescent" might not have been indicative of the question I need answered.
  21. If you are after the inner west Leichhardt Dog Training Club @ Bones Cafe is good. Very cheap too. http://ldtc.com.au/
  22. ES I just had to interrupt to say that picture of Abby is just adorable...pony foals are just the cutest! Aussielover I forgot to say that I pick up my Protexin sachels from the vet (if you order online you can't be sure they have been stored correctly and probiotics are still live). I hope Mindy is doing better this week.
