  1. thanks I will pm him again

    Hi

We have used cabergoline quite a few times over the past 5 years always with success and always have very healthy litters. Our vet is a reproductive specialist and it is always dispensed under his care. It takes approx. 3-5 weeks for your bitch to come into season and then it is administered for 2 days after bleeding begins. It inhibits the hormone that stops estrus so that your girl will naturally start her season. I hope this helps.

    Kerry :)

  2. I will pay someone to offload her off me  and I have to laugh because If I think how much It's going to cost me to replace them, coz fly screen again just ain't going to cut It, I won't stop crying! Why can't I have a normal dog who doesn't want to keep jumping out of windows

What hole????????? Ohhhh, I just want to kiss her gorgeous face. ;)

  3. Keep trying to put him on Mums teet too. Gently squeeze a little milk out and hold him/guide him onto it, keep trying, he might just latch on.

Also as others have mentioned keep him warm. It's very important.

Goodluck, I hope he makes it. :crossfingers:

Great advice. You have to keep him interested. The warmth from mum will also benefit him. Good luck tonight.

  4. Do you have a heat pad in the whelping box? It is extremely important to keep him warm. He needs this to help digest his milk and for survival. A cold puppy is a miserable puppy. Good luck.

yes hes in a box with a heat lamp but iam taking him in the morning to the vets and take it from there ty so much for all your help

    we just didnt expect this

the ultrasound showed all were alive and well

Things can go wrong during whelping, I think most breeders start to relax when the pups are around 3-4 weeks old - it's just part of breeding.

I have only had 4 litters, only 1 litter was without any issues at all and I really enjoyed that one. However the other 3 were em c sections, pup stuck in birth canal, uterine inertia (x2) including a premature litter (3 out of 8 survived), pups died at birth, had pups pts at 7 1/2 weeks and 3 weeks old as well as the aspiration pneumonia mentioned earlier. Breeding sucks at times, it really does. When everything goes well it is absolutely wonderful.

I totally agree. You can be 110% prepared but anything can happen. We have also had puppies stuck, emerg. c-sections, eclampsia & stillbirths. Breeding is definitely hard work emotionally & physically. We had 7 puppies born in January during the long hot days. I would get up every 10 - 15 mins throughout the night just to make sure they all got their fair share of milk (especially with the heat). I loved this litter as even though I was sleep deprived for a very short time, we had 7 beautiful healthy puppies with no complications. All litters should be this easy.

  5. If he's crawling away, he'll probably die. Let nature take is course and leave him be.

Pups not suckling and crawling away, is an indication of something not being right. Really they aren't worth trying to save and you;re better off investing your time and energy into those pups that are doing well.

As a breeder of 17 years standing, I'm afraid I agree with this 100% - let this little guy go.

i spoke with the vet he said we can give a tube a try but he preferr to put him down, its so sad, ive never lost a pup before, i just wanted to do anything i could to help, but i have to listern to my vet,

It is heartbreaking to lose a puppy. I am sure you will make the right decision You then need to focus your energy into your girl and the remaining 7 puppies. You will definitely need all your strength over the next few days and weeks as a big litter is a lot of work.

    All the best

    Kerry

  6. Thanks Kerry, this is a very informative and friendly forum, very exciting !!!!! :whee:

You will find a wealth of information from very experienced & passionate dog lovers. I spend hours reading posts on this forum, along with a cruise forum, my two passions dogs & travel. I don't know how I find the time to work, look after a house full of teenagers & dogs? I know you will enjoy it.

  7. He is itching. He's on Phenergen for that and post-surgery antibiotics for his leg. That's why I want to give him something natural to help. He's on a mostly raw diet, but he has some grain free kibble too.

"Vets All Natural Omega Blend liquid" or one that is similar. Once a day on their food is fantastic to help the skin & condition of the fur. Great if they are itchy, also boots the immune system. Good luck.

  8. Hi Kerry,

Thanks for that information mind you this girl weighs about 45 kilos so may be that is why price is high. Mind you the vets I use charge like wounded bulls but they are good in the repo area.

I will check with other vets or online to see if I can get it cheaper.

Did you have a blood test taken first before starting the tablets. Sorry if this is a dumb question.

    Regards,

    Sheila

    Hi Sheila

No blood test necessary. As long as the last season was at least 6 months ago and your girl is in great health, a check-up by our vet along with a weigh is all that is necessary. Our vet knows everything about us but we always have to make an appointment for him to check our girls before he administers the capsules.

    Kerry :)

  9. Hi Kerry,

Thank you for posting the information about the drug you have used.

My girls do not seem to cycle that often 8 - 9 months or once every 12 months which is frustrating. After reading your post spoke to my vet's collegue (my repo vet is on holidays) and it seems you can get 8 tablets for $150 using 1/2 tablet per day. Usage would be for around 25 days finishing second day of coming into season.

Could I ask how long did you use the tablets and what price did you pay? Any other information would be greatly appreciated.

Have a feeling the girl that I want to bring in might be having silent seasons and it seems the tablet will correct that and she will have a normal cycle.

    Thanks,

    Sheila

    Hi Sheila

We have been using Cabergoline for a few years and in that time it has never been more than 35.00 - 40.00 for 2 weeks worth of capsules. It is dispensed in 25 microg or 100 microg capsules by our vet not tablets. One of our Pugs who weighed approx. 10 kgs was on 1 x 100mg capsule a day and it took around 4-5 weeks for her season to start. One of our other girls was 8kg and was on 2 x 25 microg capsules a day (given at the same time). It took approx. 3 weeks for her season to begin. On average it takes 3-5 weeks. Good luck.

  10. hellier dog rescue,

Thank you now that is why I posted here, there is always some one who will come forward with good tidings and hope for the future litter I so desire.

If this girl was only mediocre I wouldn't even bother trying but she is lovely bitch and very special.

We will be making a specialist appointment very soon. My vet has no idea :noidea:

    Hi Fordogs

Over the years we have used Cabergoline quite a few times on the recommendation & supervision of our vet who is a reproductive specialist. It is a human fertility drug that has no side effects. We have only used it to plan a litter when one of our girls has a history of lengthy periods between seasons. It is not expensive and we have had success every time. It is given daily and usually within 3-5 weeks the season begins. It is stopped 2 days after bleeding has commenced. It inhibits the hormone that stops estrus so that your girl will naturally start her season. I hope this helps. If you would like any other information, just let me know

    Kerry :)

  11. Hello

My litter is 5 weeks old today. For the past week they've been fed on turkey mince and puppy milk, as well as having the occasional top up from Mum (she's getting very over it!)

When is it best to introduce soaked dry food, and after that, when to introduce straight dry? Is the Advance Puppy that comes in those puppy packs fine to soak?

Our puppies were 5 weeks on Thursday and they have been having the Advance puppy growth for a few days now.(under supervision.) We never give our puppies soaked dry food. We just introduce the dry food as is once their teeth are coming through. It's great exercise for their mouth and jaw. Just remember to always have fresh water available as they will get very thirsty. They are also having Advance puppy tin. Their poos are always firm and dark.

  12. We bought our latest furkid an assortment of puppy toys in all different shapes, sizes and textures. Which one is his favourite? None, however this is a
showing him playing with his new favourite toy.

Each one keeps him amused for over 15 minutes and frozen ones get extra attention - go figure!

That is a great video. I love the way the older dog is just looking at him in amazement.

  13. In Brisbane tomorrow it is going to be a hot one. I have 8 Labrador puppies that are 6 days old and no air conditioning.

I have a ceiling fan on and a pedestal fan on going over the top of the whelping box (not directly on the puppies). I have also been putting a damp towel down. This has been enough for the last few days but I don't think this will be enough it any hotter.

    Any other suggestions?

We put a couple of ceramic floor tiles in our whelping box over summer. They loved it.

  14. Hi guys

Just wondering if anyone knows where to get a puppy play set from, sort of similar to the one I have found in the States below, but I would rather buy local. Maybe a very small agility set or something similar. I just want to be able let the puppy interact with different shapes, textures and something different. Any thoughts would be great!!

    Thanks!

We buy cat tunnels from The Reject Shop for our puppies. They absolutely love them. At the moment they have some for 12.00. Here is a link to our puppies playing in it a couple of weeks ago.

    Your puppies are beautiful :(

Thanks. The tunnel is from Reject Shop. $12.00
