  1. Oh Erny Big and to you, darl. You have given Kal the most loving and unselfish gift you could possibly give. Darling Kal will be met at the bridge and welcomed by many friends, she will not be alone. You fought the brave fight, you gave Kal an amazing amount of love and support, and you let her go when she was ready. There is nothing more you could have done to show your love to her, and I know that she knows that, too. There are many here on DOL who will share your tears, and who will be here for anything you should need. There is an amazing support in this forum, that literally covers you with love - and it will help you through this. Take time to care for yourself, cry when you need to cry, and talk when you need to talk. RIP Beautiful Kal Hugs from Tracie, Ron, Abby and the Rottys
  2. And so wise that you are able to recognise the treasure that Kal is, and always will be. Hon, I will be thinking you you and darling Kal even moreso than normal tonight. If tomorrow is the day for Kal to make her journey to the bridge, then I wish you peace, comfort and strength in the knowledge that she is going to a special place where there will be no more struggle, and although you won't see her, she will always, always be around you. And, if tomorrow is the day, then I wish Kal a speedy journey surrounded by the thoughts of those who love her. Hugs, Trace
  3. Just wanted to send a huge  :D to you and Kal, Erny It brought a big smile to my face to read of Kal trotting around the park - cherish the moment, and love every minute that you can, I'm sure that's their message Lotsa thoughts and hugs to you both, Trace
  4. Took the words right out of my mouth curlyking. We love Uncle Robert
  5. HAPPY BIRTHDAY OLLIE!!! I bet he got lots of extra special cuddles, too
  6. Firstly, you should definitely contact your breeder - have a talk to them and see what they were feeding her. Ideally, she should be on the same food, at least initially, to help prevent an upset stomach. Next question - how is she generally? Does she have diahrrea? Is she playful and happy, or is she quiet and listless? If she is at all listless or has diahrrea, then a vet visit is extremely important. In fact, I would probably still err on the side of caution and take her for a checkup anyway. If she is happy and her bowel motions are normal, then get her onto whatever her breeder was feeding asap. Give her a meal, and give her 15 or 20 minutes to eat it. If she doesn't, take it away and try again next meal. Provided she is healthy, avoid pandering too much to her tastes - I know you're worried, but if you keep it up you are heading towards creating a fussy eater, and all the changes to her food are potentially going to upset her stomach. There are some products that are meant to encourage appetitie (Nutrigel does this I think?), so perhaps have a talk to your vet or breeder about this.
  7. We also often see hot spots on the face (not that we often see hot spots, but that when we see them they are often on the face - you know what I mean ). Normally on the cheek. If not on the cheek, the next most common spot we've seen them is the neck. Geez, haven't had one for ages - we used to have a white ointment from the vet for them, someone will say the name and it will ring a bell, but I can't remember it. I recall the ointment used to help with the itch, but it always seemed that getting the hot spot dried out asap was the best fix. I can see listerine drying the spot out, must remember that. At the end of the day - vet check is the best thing you can do :D
  8. Hmm, if they're gaining weight that's a good sign. Are you toileting them after each meal, or is mum still happy to do that? What breed of dog are they?
  9. I picked up Stewie's ashes this morning I thought I'd been doing so well lately, and this has bought all the pain back. I've never had a dog cremated before, so I didn't know what to expect. Has anyone else had a cremation done and then felt like this when picking up the ashes? I think the next hurdle is going to be to bury the ashes, which I know OH wants to do, and we will then plant a tree over them - it's all going to hurt again then, isn't it? God, sorry for rambling - I know I'm not the only person to have gone through this, but it's all very raw this morning.
  10. If it's confirmed that Frodo has a fungal ear infection, and you are interested in trying a natural approach, then these links may be of use: http://www.herbal-treatments.com/dog_funga..._infection.html http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/dog_chron..._infection.html My understanding is that the two products are different, the first are drops for the ear the second is an internal mixture which the dog takes orally. You can also phone for a free consultation/discussion about the problem, what's been tried, etc and Robert will make recommendations. His contact details are on the sites above. Fingers crossed that this issue is fixed soon, it sounds like you are all having the most frustrating time
  11. Ahhh Karen :D :D You did the most courageous and loving thing you could do for Wags, you had the strength to let him have his wings when he needed them. Fly free and sweet darling Wags Trace
  12. Just from looking through Google it appears that this is an audio course that you pay for and download. Many comments from people about how they have been ripped off. Other comments from people about how the "secrets" are just standard training techniques. IMO, you would be far better off spending your money on face to face obedience classes.
  13. Erny, I can recommend Robert McDowell as someone worth speaking with - http://www.herbal-treatments.com - he provides free phone, fax and email consults. dogsbesotted uses a wonderful holistic specialist as well - perhaps PM her for the contact details. Hugs to you and to darling Kal. Trace
  14. Ohhhhh Huge to you both. There's nothing I can say to make it better, but please know that you and Kal are very much in our thoughts. Trace
  15. Cass sounds like she was an absolute sweetie! Sending lots of your way. Trace
  16. What a PRETTY girl! Quills, your comment above, do you mean that your girl has been x-rayed and received an excellent score, or that the breeder has excellent scores for her parents, grandparents, etc? Unfortunately there is no guarantee with HD, we can do our best to reduce the chances, but it can still crop up even when we do all the testing in the world and only use dogs with excellent scores. You're best bet is to take your darling girl for a visit to the vet, anything else is just going to be guesswork. Hope she's feeling better very soon! Trace
  17. Ah bugger it :D C'mon Ollie - we're all rooting for you babe! Hugs to you Jodie, keep that chin up Trace
  18. Don't you dare feel like that  Our fight is over and we now move on, knowing that Stu is in peace. Everyone who is still fighting needs every bit of support we can offer, and offer it we will. DOL is nothing short of amazing with the comfort and support that is always evident, and this support is soooo important. Give Kal big cuddles from us. :D Trace
  19. Damn Erny, what a rollercoaster ride. All I can offer is a huge and my thoughts and prayers for you and for Kal. Trace
  20. Oh BL, I remember your topic about Tex What a hard, hard decision to have to make. My thoughts are with you all. Run free over the bridge, Tex. There are many waiting to play with you.
  21. Far too young. Run free over the bridge, lovey Mack
  22. Thank you so much - they are both very beautiful, and full of meaning right now.
  23. Thank you all so much for your kind words. It's been a s**t of a day, to put it mildly - I think better for me than for OH, I've spent the last 3 days crying because I knew the end was here, so I think some of my grief was already out. OH, on the other hand, I think was denying that the time had come, so this morning hit him particularly hard. We've arranged to have Stewie cremated - we didn't want to just leave him at the vet, and we didn't want to go through the trauma of trying to bury such a large dog. Cremation seemed to be the most dignified thing to do - I don't know yet what we will do with his ashes, most likely we will bury them, but I'm partial to having them in an urn. I've never had a dog cremated before, so I don't know how I will cope with picking up the ashes in a few days. Hugs to you all. Trace Edited cause I missed a word.
  24. Mr Stewie Man, 10 months ago we found that you had Osteosarcoma in your front leg. Luckily we were able to contain this horrid disease for far longer than we expected. You remained happy and full of love and life, and we felt blessed for this. Only last Saturday you were being your typical pig self, "taste testing" the chicken necks as I bagged them. You went so quickly - when you started getting fussy with your food on Sunday, I knew you were getting ready to go. Then when you basically refused food on Monday and Tuesday, you told us it was time. Thank you my boofy boy for 7 1/2 years of absolute joy and love. We are hurting so much at the moment, but neither of us will ever regret having you in our lives and loving you. Although you were past the half way point, you never did finish your Championship title. Do you remember what you were like in the show ring? You were so laid back you were almost asleep, although you did love going to shows just so you could slobber on everyone! In the end we decided that we knew you had the goods to be a champion, and we didn't need the CH to prove it. You made us so proud being V Rated at just over 18 months, in the only speciality show you entered. We will cherish your medallion always. We will think of you with sweetness when we have our next litter - you were always the "babysitter", and would go all soppy any time we said the word "puppy" or "baby". It won't be the same without you here to play with the pups. I don't think the girls have worked it out yet - although Amber was being very silly a short while ago. I've never seen her run around like that, or heard her bark like that before.... Fly swiftly and sweetly to the bridge, my love. You will find many friends there waiting for you. Give them all licks from us and tell them that we will all be together again one day. RIP V Rated Allerhochst JEB Stuart 16 August 1998 - 10 May 2006
