Really? A Border Collie can be as small as that? In which case I stand corrected and offer my apologies. I know about Rottweilers and Cavaliers but have little to no knowledge of Border Collies. I need to learn so I shall Google and won't be so quick to correct others in future.

I had the opposite problem. We also went down the myelogram path. I agreed to immediate surgery. My dog was paralysed from the shoulders down and couldn't walk in but walked out two days following the surgery.
-
I've bought one just in case my Cavaliers need one in the future. No surgery on the horizon but I like to be prepared.

Because as has already been said here. In a retirement village environment only SMALL dogs are allowed. An adult Border Collie is not a small dog.

The story is that this woman was injured by these dogs. Unless she was unmercifully teasing them, which it certainly appears she was not, the person handling these dogs was incompetent. What more do we need to know?

Emma, has your dog had an MRI or myelogram to assess the situation. If not, now would be a good time to have it done before you embark on any complimentary treatment that may exacerbate the problem. Why not take him to the Veterinary Specialist Centre to have his condition assessed, your vet will probably be happy to give you a referral. The Specialst Centre has a branch in Mount or is it Glen Waverley and another in Essendon.

I'd be considered to be elderly and I have two CKCS. They do stay close but know to get out of the way and not get underfoot. It's surprising how fast they can move if they have to. I too am pretty light on my feet so we've had no accidental trip ups. Your Mum, being in her 50's is nowhere near elderly. If Mum wants a dog she can allow off lead at your farm she must teach the dog recall as a puppy and keep proofing that recall. Dogs, particularly CKCS can be very inquisitive and she doesn't want a situation where she sees her dog disappearing into the distance at your farm. CKCS are very food motivated and I found teaching recall was a breeze using a food treat. The treat can be phased out if your mother wishes.

I found Brigitte Bardot and freaked. At least Brigitte Bardot hasn't gone the way of plastic surgery to mutilate her face. She has aged naturally, not very kindly but naturally.

Excellent news teekay. Good to hear she's doing well. The poor girl probably has razor burn to the ear where she was shaved. My dogs always get razor burn if they need to be shaved at the vets for any reason. They shave them too closely. Now with razor burn she probably needs the Neocort more than she did in the first place.

Yep, this ^. Only small dogs are allowed in retirement villages.

I missed it when I first read the thread too. I picked it up on my second run through.
-
Ummm...did you want to say something benz? No point in quoting a previous post unless you're happy to make a comment.

Teekay, how is Jenna doing today?
-
The OP has said the dog is a Beagle.

Newbie 1. Good for you for researching for your Mum. I hope she reads the thread because there are some good recommendations to be found in here. Please let us know what breed she chooses and why she chose that breed. I'm really interested and I'll bet the other folk in the thread are as well.

This thread sent me searching for pics of Kim Novak. Oh my, what has she done? She was such a beauty and would probably have looked lovely in her advancing years had she not ruined her face. She said "The Ultimate Tinseltown Beauty did come with disadvantages". I'm sure it also came with many advantages. What a travesty to ruin such a beautiful face. She doesn't look younger she just looks weird. Kylie Minogue now looks like someone else and Simon Cowell needs to quit while he's ahead. Kylie no longer advances year in age with each birthday. I know her age because she went out with out with one of my sons for a few months. She used to be the same age as he is but it seems that no longer is the case. Hey Dame Dannys Darling: Good for you, you go for it If I hadn't stuffed up my back good and proper I'd still have Rottweilers. They're a wonderful breed and I'm lucky I had so many years sharing my life with them. I miss seeing that beautiful Rottie boof head in and around my home. Just want to say my Cavaliers lived with Rotties, both my own and a few rescue Rotts I had here. There was never a problem. The Rotties played gently with the little Cavaliers. My Cavs are not the least bit intimidated by any large dogs we happen to meet on our walks. They're more interested in greeting large dogs than little ones. The 50's are great years. You know who you are and are comfortable in your skin, or at least I was. I actually learned a few things about life that I thought I knew when I was younger. In my 50's I found out I knew very little about anything important in my younger years. I'm still on that learning curve.

Ah, yes. I think we get that :)

Does this zoo honestly think that is funny?

I hate it when joggers come up behind me when I'm walking my dogs along the footpath. If I hear them coming I take my dogs to the nature strip and put them in a sit stay until the jogger has passed. The dog owner should have moved his dogs out of range, presuming the woman was facing the dogs and not coming up behind them. He hasn't done much for the image of responsible dog ownership. Responsible dog owners take the hit every time a dog attack story hits the press. We get stuck with more rules and regulations about what we're allowed to do and where we're allowed to go with our dogs. I hope the poor woman has no lasting injuries.

I agree the lady's living arrangements being in a 'lifestyle village' probably means she can only have a small breed of dog. She's only in her 50's. Aren't the 50's said to be the new 30's? I had Rottweilers in my 50's and spent every Sunday running around the obedience oval.

It would probably be best to contact the local council to see if anyone has two dogs of this description registered. Chances are the dog owner is a local since he was walking his dogs in the area. A report to the local ranger is necessary in any case. I suspect the response from the police came from sheer laziness. They can't be bothered to try to locate the dog owner. Even though the police are not prepared to actually do something I trust that the report of this dog attack was at least documented for future reference.

If you are using the Billinghurst BARF or Big Dog BARF raw food they should not be cooked as they contain bone and cooked bone is a no no for dogs. You would be best to use a low fat premium quality mince steak if you intend to cook it. Once BARF is cooked it is no longer a Biological Approved Raw Food.

Wow! That is very expensive. I'm sure you can do a lot better than that. Most of the larger pet warehouses have a good selection of dry good. MyPetWarehouse is not much help to you because they don't list the food analysis of the products on their website so you have to call them and ask a staff member to go and check the bag which is a nuisance if you have to call them multiple times. Most other large pet stores should be helpful. Maybe try the Pookinuk website. They deliver but I don't know if they would deliver as far away as where you are. Canidae Platinum has a 4% fat content. Artemis has a low fat variety too.

Min Pins are very yappy And they aren't good with children at all, and are far too delicate for rough play. Not to mention difficult to socialise with other/larger dogs. Most terriers can be a bit yappy too. Chinese Cresteds are an aquired taste IMO.

Check out the fat content on the back of the bag of dry food that you are currently feeding. Then you need to check the fat content on the back of the bag of any other dry food that you're considering. I have a dog who is prone to pancreatitis attacks if the fat content of anything I feed her exceeds 4%. Most dry food for seniors or weight reduction dry food has a low fat content. Most good quality dry food is pricey.
