  1. He wasn't neutered until he was an adult and this habit was already established - so how do I stop it? He always gos in different spots, and is a very submissive sooky boy. He will go outside for a wee, then still come back inside and spray on things - ver frustrating!
  2. Or would the heavy duty challenge ball (for lions lol) be better? How have your dogs gone with one - is it completely trashed or has it stood up to the rough treatment?
  3. Thanks very much for the advice Which different collars do you use to indicate which you are doing?
  4. So you don't think a training collar is necessary(or safe?) for a pup? Is this because they grow so quickly that you will have an ill-fitting collar, or because you just wouldn't need one with a pup?
  5. I was talking to my local kennel club secretary today about training the pup I am getting in December, and she recommended teaching stand before sit. Is this what you would do for a show dog? And are regular obedience classes going to do sit first? It seems that once the sit command is ingrained it is hard to change(have been experimenting with my 2 older dogs who have never learned stand before - although one of them is getting the hang of it). Mods pls move this if it would be better in showing section.
  6. Blergh. My other half has to work on Monday now so I don't have anyone to look after the kidlets for me. Miss1 would be ok to come, but Mr3 is just too much of a dog and dog agility props lover to bring along - he had great fun on the dog agility run at the Lancefield show Are you all going to Sunbury as well? The other half is keen to come along to sunbury so will have an extra pair of hands for child management....
  7. That's a new one - haven't heard that one before. Just trying to picture it :p
  8. So they're not really a necessity for boofy headed dogs like staffords then? Or does it just depend on the dog? Just wondering whether I should get one before pup arrives or wait and see...
  9. For those who use a martingale collar - what do you use it for? It's designed for training right? And, do you leave it on all the time or do you put a regular one on for some of the time?
  10. Thanks for the advice These two have barely ever been apart(boy and girl) and currently share a kennel outside, and a bean bag when inside - food is the only issue - there's never been any hint of fighting between them, the boy will just surrender his dinner to Kelly if she 'gives him the look'. So having them apart to eat is just so he gets some food I'm wondering if I even need to crate train them at all - they are pretty happy with their current arrangement - the only problem I have is that the boy tends to leave his mark around the house - he goes outside to wee, but just sprays a few drops on the odd vertical surface. Crate training would help this right? Could I just c-train him and not her? And also we will be getting a new pup in the next couple of months and I will be c- training her.
  11. I'm going along just to have a bit of a gander - so good luck everyone!
  12. Sounds good Kanati - will look for the whippets
  13. Which stores ship these to Aus - I can only find US stores that don't do international shipping. I am after the busy buddy football and squirrel dude. TIA
  14. I wasn't going to enter - just thinking ahead I have told the breeder that I want to show, and she does a lot of showing herself - unfortunately she is in Qld so can't give much hands on help. Thanks for the advice Hi BB. Are they Schipperkes? How would I recognise you? I know what schipperkes look like I think - how many do you have? Thanks very much for the tips Keshwar and Ellz - very helpful
  15. Bump - could someone recommend a puppy book for me?
  16. Thank you! Are staffies always in Group 2 or does it depend on the show?
  17. I haven't got my pup yet - but would like to show with her. I have found out that there is a show on nearby next Monday(Lancefield) that I can go to and have a look at, but I am a bit confused I've read the first 5 pages of the showing FAQ. * How do I find out what breeds are in each class? (I am interested in seeing the staffies) This is the page from the gazette on the Vic Womens Dog club website http://sites.google.com/site/vicwomens/sch...vic-dog-gazette but staffies are not listed there. *How would I enter a show? I couldn't find any entry forms on the Vic Womens Dog club site. * And, any DOL'ers going that I could meet up with and bombard with questions *smiles sweetly* ;)
  18. Can two adult dogs be crate trained together? Ie. in the same crate? How would I start - do I just get a crate and start giving them treats in there (need to feed them further apart or 1 misses out) and make it a nice comfy place for them where they can come and go as they please to begin with?
  19. I am planning on getting a new staffy pup and I would like some advice on preparing for her. I am a stay at home Mum to 2 young kids so bear in mind that my main issues are making sure she is supervised when around the kids, and safe from them when not supervised. So, I need tips on: *good toys for staffy pups *how to crate train - is there a schedule or some guidelines to follow? ie. how long can she stay in there - I presume not very long for a little pup, so if I'm going somewhere and I can't take her I should set her up in her outside run? *amount of exercise for young pups
  20. Awww what a cutie! I like the name Saphy - it's on my list of potential names for my pup
  21. Hi there. I'm joining in on the waiting game too. Am waiting for pups to be born - they are due anytime now so will be able to pick up from airport just before Christmas. So exciting! I'm getting a little staffy girl to do some showing with. I'm not new to staffies but a total newbie at showing so I will be looking for lots of advice from round these parts Ooo Pandii - cute puppy!! I love puppy pics. I am after a crate too so thanks for the dogtainers link Dju :D
  22. Thanks parkeyre - it's nice to be able to get some good advice I am definitely not planning on breeding or showing her - she is not a pedigree and was bought back before I knew better She is a gorgeous gorgeous girl - so if I can reduce her risk of disease I will
  23. The male is desexed. I would consider getting the female desexed also - just hadn't needed to thus far as where we live there is no chance of her being mated.
  24. The female is definitely dominant over male.
