I'm going to be starting out in the show ring with my girl. I have been checking out trolleys- thinking the OKS looks good - lots of recommendations for it on here.

I can relate to that! The number of puppy toys I have bought already I hope the assessments come through nice and quickly for you - you have been very patient! Since March!!! Hopefully you'll get your two shortly after I get my little girl. My wait is fraught with anxiety though as there is no absolute guarantee I will even get a pup - I won't know for another 3.5 weeks(when pups are 6 weeks) which, if any, will be mine.

I have a 5cm scar on my wrist from a bite wound which needed several stitches after I broke up a fight between two female staffords - a speyed 4 yr old and a 9 mth old(the pup bit me as she was very freaked out by being attacked - these two never forgave each other). I learnt my lesson - don't use your bare hands to break up a dog fight!!

How exciting Pandii! What a cutie pie! Aanie we will be getting our pups around the same time - mine was born on November 12th. Only another 4 weeks til I can go and see my baby in the flesh. Sooo impatient. Mischiefmaker - hope you get some news about your dogue really soon - it does drive you a bit crazy all the waiting I totally agree. Doggeek - your 'babies' look gorgeous - when do you find out about the import permit? How long does the whole import process take - they would have to go into quarantine for a while yeah?

In the morning can you put them both on a lead, and you have your older dog and keep him distracted with treats toys, etc, make a big fuss of him and ignore the puppy. Have the puppy in another room to start with if need be, then, while he;s distracted and happy move closer to pup. You might need to keep them separate and then do the on-lead thing, giving your older dog heaps of attention until ha makes the connection that puppy's presence=lots of attention and treats from Mum. I would also try keeping the pup confined in a puppy pen or crate(until our older dog accepts it anyway), because him having run of the house (and toys, bowlsetc) would be a big power challenge to your older dog.

My first puppy from a reputable registered breeder. It is lovely to have met some of her dogs(and her and her husband) before pups were even born. So excited to be getting a pup from someone who obviously cares so much about her dogs and keeps in regular contact with several of the owners of her pups from previous litters. She is also willing to take me under her wing as I start showing That is a good question Cosmolo - I will check that out with her. I am worried about sounding rude but I'm sure she would prefer that I asked the question right?

My breeder's girl has just had her pups, and I was talking to her about a week before they were born and she was saying that she didn't want anyone visiting the pups until they have had their first vacc at 6 weeks. Is this usual? She is going to put pics up on the website for me but I would love to see them in the flesh.

They are some good tips that you already have there. How does your older dog usually go with meeting new dogs and puppies? A good tip is for your older dog to be held on leash by his main caregiver, with pup also on leash tied to a pole or held by a more neutral person. Then the older dog can have a good sniff, pup will (most likely)roll over and show belly and then leads can be relaxed a bit and they can get to know each other. I would also repeat this on leash meeting scenario at your home - or if they are fine, walk them home together after the meeting. Usually a pup will be accepted very quickly.

Um no. I'm glad I'm not going through that breeder now as they were most unhelpful, unwilling to pick a pup for me that had show potential(as it would have meant her not being able to pre-sell all of the pups) and unwilling to answer questions that I had asked them.

Well I've taken two steps back but one step forward in my search for a puppy. After attending dog shows yesterday and today and chatting with some lovely breeders I have cancelled my puppy that I had on hold, and am going to wait til a local breeder can sell me one so I can be sure that they are a lovely breeder, and they can help me with all the showing bizzo. There is a litter due on November 13 so hopefully there will be one in there with some show potential for me. Cross your fingers for me please!!

Or do you mean submissive urination. What defines submissive urination? He does it when by himself, not in response to interaction. He just takes himself off and marks the green bag or cardboard box that one of the kids has left lying in the hallway, or the bookcase etc...

Yes I mean marking I think he has always done it - but more frequently since we moved house about 6 mths ago. His house-training was pretty basic: take him outside, if he goes, praise him. This was until he was fairly reliable, then we would just let him out whenever our girl went out. Our bitch lets us know very clearly when she needs to go , by whining at the door. As for relationship with me and other animals in the house - he is the lowest pack member. We just have the one other female dog. I might need some more specific questions
