  1. Horse 2008, your pup is so gorgeous, please take note of all the kind advise offered on this forum. Forget about tinned dogfood, feed as part of his diet a top quality dry dogfood, to make sure Horse get's his needed minerals/vitamins, and not just a belly full of water. Depending on how old Horse is, he may need a Large Breed Puppy dry dogfood. I use kitchen scissors to cut chicken necks into 3-4 pieces, also flatten them with a mallet, as my pup is a fussy eater. Hurry up, take horse to a good vet, can't play around with puppy's health. Best luck!!
  2. I often wondered if this photo of my puppy, sitting on the right, gives away the secret of his future: this puppy, now 9 month old, has developed severe hip dysplasia, with a PennHip score of O.88.
  3. Hi all, sick of waiting for my 8 months old gwp's ordered hip brace to arrive from the US, I created my own in a few hours. It will only be used when taking the dog for a walk on a leash. I bought a step-in-harness, cut my sml size thermal back brace exactly in middle/ in two pieces, rolled/stitched a seam for each leg to the outside, threaded plastic belts (covered with a sleeve made out of nylon bandage to prevent rubbing) through each seam to go around dog's thighs above the knee joints, adjusted them with chicago screws (used for western bridles), used the already attached velcro to connect the two leg braces firmly together on top of dog's hips, pulling towards the front, then connected brace to the harness with spare strap. I have used it for a couple of days now without any signs of rubbing.
  4. Inevitablue, I wrote on the the PennHip wall at facebook, got advise, then sent email to [email protected] asking for status of evaluation of those radiographs done 30.12.2010. I also attached following email with vet's ridiculous explanation of missing radiographs: I looked for the official scores that we should have received from Pennsylvania University when you came in. I was unable to find them and so consequently I checked for the radiographs. We normally take a second copy of the radiographs in case something happens to the originals. I found the Xrays and our original estimates of the the expected score (around 0.3-0.35, a good score that is normally Hip Dysplasia free), as well as our copies. I did contact University of Pennsylvania and they never received the originals. It would appear that they had a change of address and it is possible that the originals may have ended up being destroyed in the US as undeliverable (because it is a tube parcel if it was undeliverable the american authorities treat it as a possible threat and destroy it). We have sent the copies to University of Pennsylvania to get an official score. As I said before, our original estimates would be well in the "non hip dysplasia" range and I suspect another reason for is possible.
  5. Hi Miss Danni, I have a vet in Bateman's Bay who suggested to me to have my 13 week old GWP PennHip x-rayed, to make sure that everything was OK. The radiographs were done, dog given the all clear by vet, radiographs were to be sent to Penn University. At 7 months of age my puppy went lame, I asked my vet for puppy's official PennHip scores, to find out, to my amazement, that the vet had not followed up and radiographs never arrived at Penn University. So the originals are lost, and spare copies were sent off four weeks ago. Now, $423 poorer, and 5 month later, I am still waiting for the official score. My pup was very thoroughly assessed at Canberra Referral Surgical Services and is now a candidate for 2x Total Hip Replacements. A complete stuff up. Maybe we are talking about the same vet???? I would have the 16 week old puppy assessed/x-rayed by a veterinary surgeon. Hope all goes well.
  6. I can feel your pain, having found my beloved 6 year old dog drowned at a neighbour's property, six days after running away with his brother. I read once, that when your dog dies, part of your life goes with him, how true. The remaining dog is still depressed and fretting for his companion, I was in tears every day, I did a lot of googling and fell in love again - with a pup of the same breed, advertised at this website. How easy was that?? The puppy, to my surprise, is very similar to my wasted friend. Maybe, you too, will in the future be able to have a dog you can love again, I hope for you.
