  2. I had a single puppy litter last year ultrasound was done 3 days prior, she only had 1 mating so I knew the exact due date so when she failed to go into labour by the due date she had a caesar BUT after 24 hours the puppy was starting to fail, she had milk but when I removed the baby and gave it a bottle she was extremely hungry 2 bottles later I thought she was doing well and gave her back to mum, within a couple of hours the puppy was again failing so I ended up bottle feeding as there was something wrong with mum's milk.

    So my advise to you would be

    1) be prepared to do a caesar if not delivered by the due date.

    2) Keep a check on the puppy's weight to be sure she is doing well.

    3) have bottle & fomula or goat milk ready.

    Thanks for your advice.

  3. Sounds very pricey. I just went through this with my bitch & prog test was about $59 per test. Got results the same day. Maybe you need to try another vet that specialises in this more for better price and service.

  4. Clear voice that carries (w/out bellowing)

    Know the regs and are confident enforcing them

    On the ball and resistant to distraction

    Firm with the prima donnas and gentle with the newbies

    Prepared to listen and act decisively if a problem is brought to their attention

    Accurate.

    I so agree with your post.

  5. I agree with Piper - don't let her go over

    I have had singleton pups a few times over the years with mixed results. If you can get your girl to settle and not lick the baby all the time she should be OK but I had one bitch that stressed the baby to such an extent that it died. Interestingly, she did go on to have some big litters and did have another singleton later in her life that survived.

    When your pup arrives pm me and I will help you as best I can

    Thanks I will

  6. I had a scan done on one of mine at 5 weeks and it showed she was having three pups - four turned up. So don't count your chickens yet :)

    I know what you are saying but the vet is certain there is only one there. Hope she is wrong.

  7. Hi has anyone received passes for this show. I've received my numbers, and on the back of the envelope it has GATE PASS written in black Texta. Is that all we need to get in on Saturday.

    Good question. I was wondering that too. I actually entered 3 dogs as I thought I needed two passes being a A & H show.

  9. I am expecting a litter in 6 weeks & from the scan it looks like a small litter. Following a discussion with a friend today it was suggested that My bitch is having a small litter because I am line breeding with this litter & not using an outcross which could result in a bigger litter. I must admit all my really big litters have been outcrosses. Interested in what other breeders have noticed.

  10. Any results so far for this show ?? I mean 3rd of Feb. oops.

    BEST IN SHOW - PYRENEAN MOUNTAIN DOG

    MULTI BIS / BISS/ Australian Supreme Champion Barreges Theoden

    Woo Hoo :cheer::clap::dancingelephant:

    Not a bad effort for a near 9 year old boy !!

    So happy for Theoden - such a gorgeous dog & I'm stoked for his owner Tania Kirkland - a wonderful show team & incredible ambassadors for the Pyr breed in Australia.

    :happydance2::happydance::champagne:

    Congrats to him & his owner. Great to see a 9 year old doing so well. Some dogs don't come into their own until they are 5 or 6.

  11. Hope you enjoy your couple of days at Crufts, I went two days plus the General Specials on the Sunday night, I have been in dog showing since 1969 and of course Crufts was a big ambition of mine too and I fulfilled it in 2008 when offspring of my now deceased stud dog had three of them representing him.

    I must warn you that the rings, talking about 2008, are tiny and you are just about crushed out of existence with people and shopping trolleys getting all the goodies for the pets, not much about the show ring sadly :mad with one proviso and that was General Specials night, now that is something that I would want and go and see again that was magical, but of course to attend that the tickets are dearer than the daily ones.

    Hope you have a great time.

    Agree with all of the above. Awesome experience, went in 2008 and loved it. Get there early if you hope to get a seat around the ring of your breed judging. And the crowds are just crushing but great shopping. Enjoy the experience. :)

  12. Have just been reading some Dog mags my sister has lent to me . Noticed all the big dog ads of the big winning dogs. Some dogs have a full page spread every month. Lovely to see but why do these people pay big money for these ads always with the handler in. Would judges really be influenced by these ads? What do others think? I personally cannot afford such ads. Does this put me and others at a disadvantage?
