  1. Jen, Ta. The Iams apparently does the refund policy aswell which is good. They seem to enjoy it. I have had a feel around his ribs a few times and it is quite noticeable. He has a med. length coat so you can't physically see it. My sis pointed out that they are very playful and active and he could just be using up energy. He doesn't seem ill in anyway. I will give this a go and see how we go. Em
  2. Congratulations!!!!!!!!! We got Buckley (daschoundx Jack Russell) and Taco (Mini pin x chi) from the Animal welfare leaque at The Gold Coast. I placed a post this morning about dry dog food because I just changed them over to Iams. ( You can read if you want to know more... weight issue etc) I only feed dry food due to the fact that my bf is repulst by the smelll, look and everything about wet food. He dry reaches at the smell of it. Apparently wet food (tin and rolls) it is not very nutritional and full of products that arn't good for dogs with super senstive skins, digestion etc. My sis makes her own wet food every couple of weeks with all these different things like kelp, garlic, livers and stuff and she said that it's quite cheap and lasts a long time. I give our 2 a few lamb bones on the weekend for their teeth mainly but apparently they are good for fattening up aswell. Taco used to hide his, dig them up a couple of weeks later and roll over it! But Buckley loves them and eats them straight away! Depend s on the condition your dog is in weight wise and if he/she has any health conditions as to the diet you feed. Consult your vet or local petshop/produce for some products aswell.
  3. Cool Ta everyone. I only bought a 3kg bag incase they didn't like it. Hopefully they will keep on eating it. Katek... Buckley is NOT living at your house and you can't have him!!!
  4. From the pet shop at The gap in Brisbane. I didn't notice the other ones and the guy didn't recommend them or even mention them May give them ago if this one doesn't work.
  5. Thanks everyone!!! They generally get the purina or sometimes the supacoat. Whatever is on special that week. I give him a few lamb bones on the weeknd when I am home and he loves them. Taco has actually stopped hiding his now and has a go at them. The Royal Canine, Advance and Eagle Pack.... Never heard or seen them before. Do only certain shops stock them? How much?
  6. Hey Everyone, I went to the petshop last night to buy some new dry dog food. The problem that I have is Buckley doesn't seem to be loosing weight but not putting any on. He is not overly skinny but I am concerned. I told the guy at the shop what he gets fed and told me that supermarket dry foods don't have much nutrtional value and therefore he is not getting the benfits of what he should. So I asked for his suggestion. 1. Hills Scienc diet 2. Eukanuba 3.Iams I bought the Iams because he only had the massive 18kg bags of the adult small dog ones and he said that it is not as good a Eukanba but made by the same company and is a LOT BETTER than supermarket ones. It works out at just under a $1 a day to feed them. Does anyone have any comments or other suggestins on 1. Weight gain for Buckley 2. Other good dry foods Ta
  7. We built a run ( a pice of wire with a pulley on it with a 15m lead that hooked onto harness so that Taco couldn't choke) that went from one end of the back yard to the other. We made sure that he couldn't get tangled or caught on anything. It was the only option we had at the time because his didn't jump or dig his way out he chewed!!!!!!!!!!! We looked at those collar things but couldn't bring ourselves to have him zapped or sprayed when he went near the perimiter and it was about $200-$300 for the pack. The run cost us $8 and we made it in about 20 mins with material from the harware. He could lie in the backyard, sleep in his bed, get to food and water and not tangle himself up. He hated it though. And I was little scared about it still because of wild dogs in the area and he wouldn't be able to get away. He doesn't go on it anymore since we got Buckley. And so far hasn't chewed his way out.
  8. I have to odd couple 2- min pin x chi and daschound x jackrussell. I get some fuuny looks when they go out! I just do the heartgaurd monthly chewable tablet because normal tablet i find are too hard to give and my 2 spit them out. They seem to like the beef flavoured treat. If you are good with remembering dates than go an monthly tablet but if not maybe the injection is the way to go. I haven't used the injection so i don't know much about it.
  9. Hey kitkat! I am pretty sure they bought the collar about 2 years ago and it was "apparently" the lastest u bute thing on the market. It cost them like $350... and it didn't even work!!!!!!!! He just kept on barking.
  10. My bf parents had a zap collar when there dog barked. I put it around my neck and tried to bark. It got me and boy did it hurt. I would not use it on a dog. There are other ways to combat problems like this. It didn't even stop him barking. (I know this is a fence collar but it is the same method of "training" and it crap.)
  11. I just use the good old original Fidos shampoo. It smell great, leaves their coat shiny and is about $7 for a 500ml bottle. There are heaps out their, but go on your individual dogs needs ie. white, long, short etc.
  12. I would talk to you vet first. There is a natural product called "rescue remedy" which is made from bach flowers. When i used to work at a dog grooming palour, the owner would always have a bottle handy. She would used it for dogs who were a little anxious, snarly or just out of control. She always would ring the owner first and most people didn't have a problem with it and even the vet said it was good. Seriously, it works. You can buy it from the chemist for about $18 and it comes with an eye dropper and you only have to give alittle in their mouth or water. My sister uses it for her cat and dog when they are just full on. She gave me some for Buckley and Taco because they would just be out of control and they just calmed straight down. Good Luck.
  13. Taco is very much "mmm something has peed there so I better" and will wee and poo if he has to or wants to. And that usually is off the side of the bike track or he will wee on anything. Buckley on the otherhand is not really that into weeing and pooing on his walks he prepers to chase the ball, run around etc. I think that could also be due to him being desexed early in life. They are both rescue digs and similar age and I know that Taco was desexed a few days before we got him (probably explains why he was a stray aswell) and Buckley is the same age but had already been done so maybe the urge to spread his scent around isn't as great as Taco's. Any way back to you. I would't be concerned. At least you don't have to pick it up from somebody elses lawn or driveway! As long as she goes that's the main thing. If you are taking her out for a long period of time, maybe you could try to take her somewhere quiet and see if she will do it.
  14. I had the same thing happen to my old horse. I know tis is about dogs but it is very similar. He had an alergic reaction to some grass and everything became swollen and the vet came out and gave him an antihistameine injection and it worked great. I would be concerned if your dog gets swollen around ther throat area because it can impair their breathing. I had a batch of hives from cheap nasty bread that had some weird type of flour used it in. It was awful. I got some antihistamine and it went away. I hope your dog gets better.
