  1. then he may be better off being surrendered to them if that's the case.
  2. Not sure why you think that it would not be in writing.....we would all be pretty stupid not to have it in writing. Maree CPR Never hurts to state the obvious sometimes, I'm sure you're all on top of it :)
  3. Not knocking this, its great and I might have a large coat I can send but why isn't council supplying coats if they are needed?
  4. when I saw the interview it gave the idea that there would actually be 2 separate buildings near one another not one co-located unit. Interesting development either way and makes sense. Government gets its hands in a multi million dollar piece of real estate to sell, the facility gets a brand new building in a more appropriate place and hopefully a better layout working wise with council. So does this mean that the DAS facilities will be merged then? It all seems very good.... I would be getting any agreement from RSPCA and Michael in writing to be safe. I'm not saying anything negative but its better to be safe than sorry and it pays to cover yourself. I would love to see a copy of the AWDR agreement that has been used in SA & a number of other states now, just to see how it is worded.
  5. from the way the story is written, the breeder is cooperating whether they have been pushed to cooperate is another story. Either way there are still another 100 undesexed dogs left on the property so the numbers could easily go back to what they were in no time. You need to ask how many times can the Rescue community absorb these sorts of numbers (and this is only one puppy farm) without busting at the seams, and that is on top of quite a busy year this year as well. I'm not sure whether they actually have fosters for all the dogs either, if you read between the lines I suspect that they are seriously stretched and not only financially, so if you have room to fit in a fluffy it might be worth seeing if they need to offload a few
  6. I have not been involved with this group, but to take that many dogs in such a short space of time is nothing short of a miracle, just to get carers alone. They have so far racked up over $28,000 in vet bills, with I suspect more to come. If anyone has anything spare or can assist with taking a little fluffy or 2, the article link is below. There are still a large number of dogs at the farm so I suspect more will need to come into care. http://www.thechronicle.com.au/news/puppy-rescue-animal-rescue-qld/1976438/
  7. there's a new version out that might wear better than the original grey ones. I found that it would need washing regularly to shrink it as it would stretch. the new ones come in blue and pink from memory so will see what they are like. Can't see that they would be that hard to make looking at my original one, can cut a pattern off it if anyone would like a go at it :D
  8. We have taken on a 6 month old Koolie girl who has had no training. It took a few days for her to work out the doggy door, but even though that is now easy she continues to wee & pooh inside. I am in the process of doing the vinegar/water to remove the smell in the area that she is going to but would appreciate any other tips on how to help to retrain her to go outside.
  9. So really there is no government body ? That's amazing!
  10. I get these weird questions that pop into my head from time to time, most of them can be quite left field. I was curious to understand how the rspca came to have such power considering it was a private organisation, from what I can see there is no other organisation that I know of (limited) that has the wide ranging legislated powers that they hold. Then it started me thinking, who police's the policeman? Who is responsible for monitoring the quality of the care and their decisions to put an animal down for instance? Where is would you go for your right of appeal? Our legal system, our government, police, every major area where there is legislation including banking has some form of ombudsman or review board, does the animal welfare system have this? and if not why not? Please don't use this as an RSPCA bashing, this isn't what this is intended for, what I am keen to learn about is the checks and balances and processes that are in place to safeguard animals in the care of the rspca and other such organisations. Told you they were left field, am keen to hear your thoughts.
  11. there's a few places you can buy them, I'm on the hunt for our next one as the original is just plain worn out  http://www.topnotchpetsupplies.com/apps/webstore/products/category/907314?page=1
  12. No miracle cure but ... another site/company. I have emailed them regarding Dodger's stress issues to see if they can recommend something for him. If you're after just general destresser I have included the link. I do know a couple of people that have used this company for themselves and also their dogs and only have positive things to say about them. http://www.healwithease.com/products-page/remedies-for-pets/stress-relief-for-pets-2
  13. I tried this with my new feral, I had to stop for the time being, she is so focused on getting to the food that she was biting my fingers so might have to invest in some heavy duty gloves until she 'gets it'
  14. Yes they would have to keep an eye on their bottom line, they have to earn a living or we're all stuffed to be honest if they go out of business. Will let them know about Sandra thanks for the lead
  15. I started using the CU with Dodger about a week ago, and used it to introduce our new foster to the family. OMG what an amazing change. The other thing I have found is a wonderful site that uses naturopathics for anxiety for animals http://www.healwithease.com/products-page/remedies-for-pets/stress-relief-for-pets-2 which I plan to get to trial to see if this helps the overall process. Teaching impulse control was another eye opener - what a much better way to go, something that I will be using with the new pup.
  16. The Vet at Fadden I think may have closed their books, that or they only assist selected rescues. I got quotes from the vets at the new pet store at the back of the hyperdome, their rescue prices were no better than the standard rates for private owners that I could tell.
  17. I think she's stunning !! The right family will come alone and they will be keepers, don't worry Smudge.
  18. Here's my latest feral, Loki collected from Renbury yesterday. Listed as a Koolie on her chip.
  19. I've got the full list of prices for Queanbeyan, so if anyone is interested give me a PM. Also sent an email to the new vet clinic & pet store down behind Tuggeranong Hyperdome, they are quite big from what I can see of their website and do good prices. Will let you know when I get them
  20. I'm not sure who they have rung to be honest, they tried a couple of times with Queanbeyan but the girls were run off their feet when they rang, must have just been a busy time I had no trouble, must have got them at the right time I guess. All the vets seem so busy, not saying any of them have had bad dealings but just I think juggling phones, dogs, cats and god only knows what else I know sometimes when I'm at Fadden with my own, I marvel at how many things they juggle at one time
