  2. i would go right back to basics, if the dogs understand the clicker, i would start by sitting in a chair, have the dogs either sitting in front or standing close to you ( may need to be on lead to keep control ),have a container of really special treats ready, present the dumbell very close to the dogs mouth, wait the dog out and the second they make the slightest movement towards the dummy click, reward, gradually over many training seesions you can then wait until they touch the dumbell, click ,reward.hopefully dog will then place their mouth over the dummy, click, reward. At this stage you would now only click for the mouth over the dummy not just touching and progress from there. many people make the mistake IMO of throwing the dummy as a play thing for the dog ,the dog has never been taught the hold part which leads to spitting the dummy,
  3. never been to these shows so is there room to set up gazebo or do we use the stables.I am in group 6,are the showgrounds open on the Thursday afternoon to set up ?
  4. kerrie who i met at Mytrleford is a member of this club, she informed me they missed the cut off date for submitting judges etc to Dogs Vic, so their first show will be next year not this year. hopefully she can confirm this herself as she is on dogs online
  5. Can anyone recommend dog friendly accomodation in the Sale/ Maffra area victoria. Planning to enter their shows in August, would prefer caravan park with self contained cabin ,but if i am desperate anything will do, thanks
  6. Hi Rhonda, i may be interested, i will come have a look, i am showing samoyeds rebecca
  7. i was talking to the trial secretary at training the other night, i suggested to her that it would be nice if they seperated the classes to give the newbies a chance to win but she said someone else was doing the catalog and they had enough to organise, were also having problems with handlers with four or five dogs entered, i think if you have multiple entries you will be allowed two per class, then put in another class, which may mean staggered times to walk the course. As for the rear end training teach your dog to touch a phone book with its front paw, then get both paws on, then lure them with your hand with food in front of nose to the left, as they start to turn left, watch for the slighest movement from the back feet and reward for that, i have taught my young dog that way and he can swing his back end around on cue when i start to drop my left shoulder. i had to teach my 12 yr old boy to turn left for rally and by luring him with food into left circles ,telling him back he has the idea, not as good at swinging his rear end like my young boy but he is doing enough to get him thru in the ring
  8. i can't seem to read the breed breakdown file that was sent to ozshow, is it encoded , how do i make it readable as none of the languges i clicked on worked ? Can anyone tell me how many samoyeds entered ? i agree the entries are fantastic, almost 100 up on last year, but how are we all going to fit in? LOL....
  9. Hi Gamby, will see you at the easter trials with my sammies, think we know each other LOL... I have been doing the Foo run thru the last three weeks and Indy is loving it,there is still some confusion for some handlers with the signs but if you study them you should be right, the walk thru before judging is so important. Rally is alot of fun and very motivating for the dog, i am a die hard obedience person, i love to get my dogs thru a routine and get a high score without the need to talk or give second commands but to my surprise i really love talking to my dog during rally !!!
  10. . Why do these people seem like they're made of Teflon? Easy matings, easy whelpings, seemingly magically the puppies rear themselves on shit food and he can sell them without qualms with no back up and very little knowledge????? i agree, my brother has two little crossbred fluffies, the bitch a pom cross is around 7 years old and has had eight litters in a row, puppies raised outside, very basic bedding, never had any problems with whelpings, except the last litter when 4 pups out of 5 died first few days, so they charged more than normal price for the survivng puppy trying to make some money, and to be honest they have made a few thousand out of their dogs because they are backyard puppy farmers IMO.. they still won't desex her, she is probably pregnant again by now, they have always done this with any dogs they have had, bloody annoying....
