  1. Just reading these posts make me feel sad for the majority who don’t like children. :( Okay you don’t have to like them, but it is coming across like you really DISLIKE them. :mad

I will reiterate patient and tolerance goes a long way in life.

I find it sad again to hear a mother say “I'd prefer to not have much to do with them (except my own of course). So how do you handle your kid’s friends when they come around? Or when you drop them off at school and kids are running around doing their own thing?

Do they sense you don’t like them? Kids are smart and can pick up on this.

Oh well I guess I am in the minority here, love kids, will play with them, chat with them, help them even if are can be annoying sometimes, which kids tend to want to rub you up the wrong because they are just 'little kids'.

  2. Thanks all. Whilst I adore BJ, I do nknow that he is not mine and therefore not a replacement, but he does fill me with joy.

This is his 3rd holiday stay with me, so I have no problems with him getting 'homesick', as this is his second home.

The nicest thing is that his family can all go on hols and not have to worry about hi, they know if he needs a vet he will see a vet, he will be fed and spoiled and loved, whilst they can kick back with the kids and enjoy themselves.

It is so nice that his family can go away on holidays and not have to worry about him because he has been left in your care knowing he will be well looked after.

My friend used to look after dogs some years ago (not in a position to do this now) she had her regular customers and one off dog sitting - she loved it, she loves dogs fullstop

  3. Since the loss of my dear Zedley I am not ready for another dog

BUT I have another dog here

I am dog sitting for BJ the yellow lab whilst his people are on hols. It is lovely to have a dog aroud the house (but he is not the Zedboy). He is such a lovely boy and I am his second Mum, and I am enjoying my time with him (just 5 days).

In time another dog will live here, but for now this is just so lovely  and no guilt about replacing my Zedley, as he was Zedley's best buddy.

It is hard to get a new dog or cat when they have passed; some people feel guilty that they are replacing them with another.

You will know when it is the right time to get another dog.

In the meantime enjoy your guest :)

  4. There are evolutionary reasons why infants instinctively and loudly demand attention. Many years ago, I read a tragic report from Western health workers returning to Africa after a famine. (Conditions had been so difficult that the health workers had been evacuated.) A few of the most demanding infants had survived the famine, but the "good" babies had all died.

It is our responsibility, as adults, to moderate the demanding instincts of small children and help them to develop more rational behaviour. Parents and teachers are in the front line, but we can all help by modelling civilized behaviour. Behaving rudely towards children does not help.

Today's children will be the doctors, aged-care workers, shop assistants etc of our later life. (Not to mention the vets that care for our pets.) We should not regard them as nuisances.

(Now I can get off my hobby-horse.)

You make a good point. I think everyone could learn a little more tolerance.

She certainly did make a good point; tolerance goes a long way.

I understand if you don't want to have children, individual choice, but not to like them because they are just 'kids'.

    Kids are our future :)

  5. It's all a conspiracy by big pharma who sponsor all the so-called research. Poor drugged out puppies lost in a purple haze.

Yep totally agree with - the big pharmaceutical companies trying to make more bucks. Not enough people taking their benzos and anti-depressants, now lets drug our pets. :mad

  6. There seems to have been a number of people around so the freaking council can investigate plus this dog seems to have quite a reputation in the area.

The owners are just irresponsible and should not have a dog FULLSTOP.

I hope the little boy will be okay.

  7. Atanquin,

I would suggest to you to send your story to the Editor to your local newspaper and basically tell them what you wrote on this forum, perhaps you can elaborate further.

Find out who the Editor is (get a name) and also send to the generic email address of the paper as another journalist might pick up on the story.

In my area we have both the Leader Newspaper and The Melbourne Weekly, so if you have two local papers send to both.

    Good luck!

  8. When I had foxy my german shepherd in the 80's it used to collect socks

On the other hand mum's kelpie 'Lucky' who we got about 6 months after my father passed away, as dad was a bit of a drinker, Lucky loved going under the house and he brought out all dad's empty booze bottles

  9. I think you'll be right seeing he's had the snip

    still working from home?

just lock him away if you pop up to the shops for the next few days

    Yeah still working from home..

I think you are right and he will be fine...

I was just a bit thrown when he turned up here...

I think anyone Zig did not know would have a hard time getting near him anyway as he can be really standoffish if he does not know you...

Yeah well I would be thrown if someone followed me home.

Just make sure Ziggy is inside when you are not home.

    I hope it is nothing....

  10. How stupid. Those poor people doing the right thing by registering their dogs only to end up losing their dogs that are innocent and whose only fault is 'looking' like a perceived type of dog.

What gets me is this stupid rule of focusing on dogs that 'may' be a risk down the track, just because of the way they look rather than focusing on dogs that are already nuisances. We have a stumpy tailed blue heeler in our street that is very agressive, has bitten children, attacked dogs and roams the street, yet that dog is still alive. :mad

No justice - these dogs have done nothing wrong and have responsible owners doing the right thing, and yet like you said pooch a dog in your street attacked other dogs and bitten children - go figure
