  1. My daughter bought a little house type ornament that you can hang outside, and when the dogs bark it apparently sets of some sort of electonic sound that only the dogs can hear, I think she got it from a pet shop, it wasn't cheap but I believe it works ok.

Are you able to ask your daughter exactly what it is so I can enquire about it, so perhaps I could inform my neighbour to buy it for her barking dog?

  2. My cat is kept inside at night but wanders during the day being a cat...climbing trees and sunbathing..licking her privates and stalking lizards.

I can't stand the thought of cats being kept indoors all day. It's not right.

    I agree with your HugUrPup.

My cat passed away in 2008, had her for 16 years, she was an outdoors cat and did all the above. She was always in at night time and in the latter part of her years did spent her time inside, I guess that might have been due to old age.

I had no complaints whatsoever that she was being a nuisance to neighbours, in fact they loved her if she made an appearance on the rare occasion.

I have also had other cats come onto my property and I have no problems with them, they are not a nuisance like other members have stated about spraying and doing their business in my garden at all - have never had any of those problems.

I had a gorgeous little grey kitten about 6 to 7 months old appear in my front garden of our building a few weeks ago who I found out from another neighbour she is new to the neighbourhood - the little sweetie just put a big smile on my face :)

  3. A Queensland couple have been charged and fined $7000 after their dog was left with an untreated lesion on its head for several months.

Daniel and Kym Rach, from Mt Gravatt in Brisbane's south, appeared in Holland Park Magistrates Court on Friday charged with breaching their duty of care under the state's Animal Care and Protection Act (2001), the Courier Mail reported.

The dog, a tan German shepherd called Cub, had been suffering with the lesion for several months when it was seized and then euthanased by the RSPCA.

“It was a particularly abhorrent case,” RSPCA Queensland inspector Annabel Buchanan said.

"Everybody at the RSPCA was really shocked at the condition of the dog.”

Magistrate Colin Strofield, who did not record a conviction for the couple, said their failure to have the dog treated was "inexplicable and reprehensible" but took into account their early guilty plea.

Lawyer Angelo Venardos said the couple were remorseful and had not taken the dog to a vet because of Mr Rach's phobia of doctors.

The couple has been banned from owning a dog for three years.

    Three year ban?

They should never be allowed to own a dog again.

  4. I just can't fathom why anyone would be so cruel to a defenseless puppy. There are so many sick people around. It makes me sick :mad :mad

A question I have often asked myself why certain individuals can be so cruel to defenseless animals? It makes me mad when I read stories like this and if I was a witness to such an act I think the guy would have ended with a black eye or worse.

So happy that the puppy has found a good home and now will have a good life :)

  5. Dog's can be unpredictable and when passing dogs that I don't know or know of their behavioual history, I personally take a wide enough berth out of leash range so they can't get to me and bite which to me is just common sense? Why pass so close that a leashed dog can make contact. IMHO the lady who got bitten could have avoided that herself

Are you for real! I'm sorry that my friend didn't have the capacity in a split instance to calcualte the angle and extension of a dogs lead, taking into consideration the length of the owners arm and elasticity of the lead. :banghead:

I was wondering the same thing 'if she was for real' with her comments.

I hope your friend is doing okay :)

  6. Had a quick look at the link you posted on Oscillot – thanks for posting. :) Will let anyone I know about it who has cats.

Yeah cats can be annoying when wandering into backyards and I would personally do something if I had a cat and a neighbour complained, but spare a thought for those who have to put up with barking dogs i.e. my next door neighbour whose dog barks if a butterfly lands in the garden. Literally I have to put the volume of my TV high to avoid listening to his barking….and yes I and other neighbours have complained about the barking dog and she always apologise and tell him to STOP BARKING....not good enough.

Er, two different subjects, surely. If you have a complaint about barking dogs then make a complaint (I would never do so myself).

Cats shouldn't wander. Indoors or a cat palace. Not that hard to stop a cat from wandering. The guy shouldn't be threatening the cats but he does have a legitimate complaint.

    Er, have complained

100% agree! I have a gorgeous cat of my own whom I love dearly, and she stays indoors. No hassle at all. If she really wants to go out and get some fresh air, eat some grass, I accompany hr in the backyard. I absaloutely adore the wildlife around my area, henc the indoor cat, 2 well trained dogs who know to leave the wildlife alone, and the other killer dog sleeps inside and night to let the possums, frogs and snakes roam freely at night. The cats don't go in the backyard as my dog will rightly so chase them out, but when they're out the front really annoys me at night. I have nesting birds out there occasionally and dont want a bloody cat murdering the poor things. Keep your cats indoors at night PLEASE, if they don't get squished by a car or eaten by a snake (which does happen around here), they cause extensive damage to the native fauna!

In the last 3 years of my cat's life she was an indoor cat, I guess as she was getting older preferred the indoors plus another cat moved into the apartment building and got your knickers in a knot so speak. When she was younger she spent alot of time on the balcony and just wondering the grounds as we have a huge garden and had her little visits in the back alley. I never had any complaints from any neighbours.

There seems to be alot of things you can do now to make sure that your cat doesn't wander unto other properties (mind you I don't mind if I see a little friendly face turn up into my garden) :)

You can built a cat enclosure or instal cat proof fencing.
