No I wouldnt think so, he does this alot & is quite used to the travel & being here & there without any dramas. He stays with my OH on the farm & he has lived with us both for 11 yrs so knows us both well and is very much my dog but he hates living in town full time hence he stays on the farm a majority of the time. Vet check definatly in order at least I will know if it is anything serious.

OHHH my god, is this serious. The highlighted below are of serious concern for me & I dont even breed dogs yet it still dont seems right at all. I live in the country too & it doesnt cost $300 an hour for a out of uni vet to attend me & my animals after hours. Not sure i would be using that vet to be honest. Bitch didnt appear to be in any pain but dead pups & so many are not cause for concern??? breeding best left alone by you & your neighbour i think. Most of you are talking like metropolitan citizens. You are not taking into perspective the lifestyle in the countryside, far away from the big cities. In our area, there is one (1) vet on call during the night within a radius of 100 km. I and the bitch's owner live only 20 km apart and use the same vet, but I get a breeder's discount, that's why I do all the calls. I kept in close touch with the first-time breeder over the phone last night. If I hadn't children and if there was someone else to look after them at night, I would have been there in person. Both of us, I and the first-time breeder, haven't slept a minute last night, but attended the birth. I also inquired yesterday afternoon in our vet clinic who would be on duty and I made the vet on duty aware that there is a certain possibility that she might get an emergency call in the middle of the night. She is not a reproduction specialist, but a young lady from Ireland, just graduated from uni and enjoying an exciting Aussie experience. It costs about $300 per hour to call her out in the middle of the night, and the clinic's safety policy is that the patient must come to the clinic, and house visits can be made in very exceptional cases only. Anyway, we still would have called the vet and would have gone for the drive with the birthing bitch if she had shown any signs of suffering or despair. But the mother was very relaxed and, according to her owner, didn't even appear like being in pain while she pushed the dead puppies out.

I hope your little dog is okay MsDani, fingers crossed he is feeling better soon :)

Thanks for your reply Erny, I dont know I will ask OH when he gets up (possibly in the morning) He seems hapy enough & nothing out of the ordinary in behaviour in any way. I just dont think the breathing is right.
-
I thought i should add, he is not stressed in anyway. Gums are normal colour. Is still very much alert & moves easy enough for a old fella. Still eating & going to the toilet as per normal.

Hi all, my older BC has come to stay with me for 2 weeks. Usualy he lives on the farm but comes home for visits. I have had this boy since he was 5 weeks old , he is now rising 11 yrs old & I noticed he is breathing really fast all the time. when he is sitting up he is panting. I have taken video of this for my vet to have a look but I thought maybe someone may have had some experience with a dog & rapid breathing before. I am assuming his poor heart is working over time to be breathing like this. His whole body shakes. Its not hot in my house & the other 2 dogs are breathing nice & relaxed & slow. Bit worried about him. Any ideas.

Thanks for the replys. Im not mad at the people who cross the street so much when they see me its the idiots who think all bull breeds are killer dogs & as i said this lab today had no reason to attack the staffy & his kelpie x heeler mate (who was a big dog) both took to this staffy at the same time, there was no competition & no reason ,they were all playing nicely. I am so lucky my girl prefers to walk with me & will go play with the others but always return to me. If others were more aware of their dogs actions or reactions maybe things like this wouldnt happen. Mind you, i had my 2 kids there & my neice who were a little away. They had a tiny girl there in the middle of it all. My sister is over protective of her kids & just about flipped out more so cause the kids were near. Anyway no harm done to dog, and all is well. I am even more so aware of my dog being socialised & continuing going to obedience. More training for the dog & owner.

I take my dog to the local dog club each sunday for obedience & 3 days a week we go to the club grounds to let our dogs have a run & we do laps ourselves. We have been there many times with other people & dogs of many breeds, ages & sizes. I have a pure English bull terrier who is nearlly 11 months old & my sister has a staffy who is 2 yrs old. Both dogs are desexed & well socialized. today we go to the grounds as per ususal & there are some new dogs. All the dogs & owners are milling around the 1 gate we need to enter through. No leashes, no cares when they see we are trying to enter. Anyway we get in finally & all going well everyone says hello and all is good. Dogs running around having fun. Then all of a sudden 2 dogs attack my sisters staffy. No reason just pounced him .Anyway all good no injury everyone okay & a little shocked but all humans appolgised etc. all good. My whinge for the day is people see my dog coming & run across the street yet who starts the bloody fight a LAB. Why are people so scared of a bully when 2 times now I have seen & witnessed very nasty labs. I like labs & know they can be very nice dogs so it just shows that its not the fighting bred dogs who are always the problems. rant over.

What Is With All The Out Of Control Dogs?
janisw replied to ruthjones's topic in General Dog Discussion
I agree Ruth. i had a day at the local club today & a black lab just about took my dogs head off .No reason, she was close to me on a short leash & it was a pushy nasty mutt . Owner was to busy chatting to take notice of her dog making a nusience of itself. I have my dog close to me for 2 reasons. I dont want her to get hurt or be cause of concern for other people & other dogs. Why cant others be as respectful. -
Tess loved her lure coursing today.she had 2 runs & was litraly being held back by my arms around her neck to stop her going while she was in the waiting pen. Ridgeback club ran this today for our club & I am already booking in for their days in Melb. I will make the 2 hour treck for this. My girl loved it. They used plastic shopping bags as lures today & works fine. So awesome. Cant wait to see the pics that were taken today . I am ordering mine . :) Huge THANKYOU to Ridgeback club of Vic for doing this .

Thanks everyone. This girl of mine will run for hours if you let her. she has so much energy hence my reason for trying this out. I think i will give it a go. I dont know who is running it for our club or if they are doing it themselves but its $10 a run for a trail to see how it goes. $10 covers insurance & if we want extra runs its $2 per run. I think I will do 2 runs & see how she goes. Worst that can happen is she is knackerd for the day YAY.

Thanks KHM, I guess 1 go at it wont make her a little chaser anymore then what they are anyway. She is so fit & active I cant keep up So i need something to help burn some energy. :)
-
Does anyone do this. I think it would be a great excercise option for my girl yet im afraid she might go to far & chase any little thing that runs off if she is in a habit of doing this . Never seen it before & I want to have a go but im not 100% . my local club is having a lure course day this coming weekend. I would really like to know what others have found with their dogs doing this, if they chase all & sundry if given the oppertunity or they are happy to leave alone at home & out & about .

Is There Any Things Said About Your Breed...
janisw replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have noticed people cross the street with their little dog when they see me coming. I yelled out the other day & said my dog wont eat yours. lol. No my dog is not a pit bull. I love my Bull terrier but apart from above I often get asked if they are on the dangerous dog list. WTF my dog licks kids & people to death if given the chance & little furry dogs get a slobbery kiss to if they are lucky & not trying to eat my dog. :) -
Ebay have the booster baths too. I see postage for the one in the link was $127 on top of price. Great idea though.

Im a minority here but i am all for desexing pets. I think leave the breeding to the experts & anyone who wants a dog as a pet alone shouldnt have a problem desexing it. i couldnt think of anything worse then having a litter & selling or giving away pups to find they are mistreated or dumped. I dont want to be part of that & any responsible owner should all have the same thinking. DESEX your pets if you have any thought to your pets welfare & well being & leave the breeding to those who are reg to do so & then i agree less pets will be a problem due to unwated pregnancies. As for training etc well thats a whole different subject. As for the back yard breeders harsher penelities for those in the wrong. Bigger fines, more policing & time behind bars for those who just dont get it.

Need Help To Determine What Breed My New Dog Is
janisw replied to Squidgy's topic in General Dog Discussion
My first look & I say Kelpie x . Cant see any staffy but you just never know. I guess it doesnt really matter so long as you love her & she loves you. Beautiful girl by the way :) Name suits her. -
My kelpie is Serenity-Jayne. She was a rescue from our pound and the name stuck. I have shortened it to Rini but thats just me :) I was going to call mine Rini too or Ren. lol. I will do it then. She isnt home yet but hope in a week or so she will be. Will post pics when she comes home. :) Thanks everyone. :)

Thankyou everyone. I think its more my superstitions that i worry about. (Like new shoes on a bench or table) Im very funny like that. I will see how we go. I would love to call her Serenity if i could so will play with it. :) thanks all so much.

We are getting a new pup if all goes well and i love her dearly but hate her name. I know 2 other animals with the same name & they are bullet worthy only. (sorry i couldnt describe it any other way (not dogs) Anyway i wanted to keep the same sounding name but i think chinging names is a bad thing so what do i do. anyone else changed a name & not suffered the Karma consequences. lol. her name is trixy & Im thinking of changing it to dixie, its the only thing i could come up with close enough. She is not a pixie.

Ohh wow, after reading the first couple of pages as Bull terrier being least fav breed, Its my most favorite ever. My dad bought me my first dog a male white bull terrier & I have had a love for them forever. I am getting a new bully in a couple of weeks. YAY I have had alot of different breeds over the yrs & I really dont like Yappy dogs of any kind. Bark if someone is there or playing but not for no reason. Drives me insane. I like all dogs usually & cant say I have come across any that I would put into a dislike catagory but are many I personally wouldnt own myself as they dont suit my lifesatyle or similar. :) Still like them though.

Hi, I am new to the forum & I felt the need to reply to this topic. From my own point of view i love pitbulls. Had one a few yrs back & he was the most gentle placid dog, never hurt a fly . My daughter did fall over him once & broke her arm as she didnt see him while running through the house and tripped. Kids fault. Dog sat up & checked my daughter & was very concerned about her. He died a very placid old dog of old age. I have a new dog coming & she is a bull terrier , my first love. I will have one of those around my kids any day of the week over alot of other small everyday breeds. Anyway getting off track. My point is i had a border collie, magnificant dog, fantastic with my oldest daughter. He had a accident & came off a bike & head first into a strainer post. That dog was never the same again. He growled at my son one day who wasnt even walking through the screen door. My point was he would never had hurt a child yet he had some brain damage that changed this unknown to us & he ended up biting another child. He was PTS . Dogs sometimes have things happen to them that they just cant control. Why do you think a dog suddenly attacks after never showing agression in its life. Stop playing the breed blame game. Not all dogs of this breed are bad nor ever would be. If you get a young man with a tough dog what do you think they purpose was to begin with??? not always because he loves the breed. Dogs are like children they are a product of their parenting. Im not saying all dogs either or any breed. If you come into my yard my mini schnauzer will be the one to watch before the Bully. She is very home proud & will let you know. :) I dont like to read storys from the paper or comments on dogs that very little know about usually. They are not all bad & there can be circumstances that you dont know about when only half a story is shown to you. Rant over. :)
