  1. donatella, wow, hope all's ok and she gets well soon. My boxer pup at 6 months scares :) most kids from trying to man handle him. (just his look, he's a little wimp underneath and wouldn't hurt a fly), but even so, I don't trust any kids (except my own) with him and make sure I'm always supervising. Have also instilled in my kids from a very young age, like 2yo at a petting zoo, that every animal needs to be handled gently, and they have learnt and are absolutely carefull with the dog and every other animal they come in contact with.
  2. Interesting response to a child's question ... Kids ask to learn .. and if they know nothing about how dogs operate , then asking and getting honest answers will help a lot! Completely agree. And agree with the sad face. Unfortunately not the first time I've read on here comments that are advocating violence towards kids. It's pretty sad!!
  3. lol feeling the Boxer love in here :) I reckon Roxy is fine and you don't need to do anything to get "other dogs to like her". Just be a little more choosy as to who you let play with her. A lot of what people are describing here is exactly why i love a Boxer, and the traits are the core of their personality. Unless she is aggressively approaching other dogs (whish she obviuolsy isn't by your post), no need to change/do anything. This is exactly what Zig is like.Other than the ball thing - he loves balls but if another dog has it, he is happy to run with them and never takes it off them.. As long as there is a dog running, he is happy to run with them..ETA - Zig has a boxer mate at the park and they play really well together. They run side by side doing the shoulder slamming. He weighs heaps more than Zig and sometimes even gets a bit rough for him. But they are both mud monsters so if there is water and mud, they are happiest running through it together. Zig sounds like perfection, and exactly how i hope my little punk turns out :)
  4. Have switched to raw/barf/prey model recently, but before that was using only wellness for my Boxer pup and very happy with it. Other than some stinky gas it was great for his energy/coat.
  5. I think people are thinking too much in the extreme. Most dogs would probably be suited with a bit of commone sense and crate training. Eg perfect day and a dog proofed outdors area, let him/her run free when there is no-one home. Forecasted storms or extreme heat, crate for the few hours you/your kids are not home, then let them decide when you are. Excercise doesn't just mean walking or specific dog related stuff. My kids get home and go straight to the backyard to kick the ball around, and our Boxer pup does the same. (OP said the family has kids) Being that he is crated during the day, when we're all home, all he wants to do is go outside and roam around the backyard. Only saying this as Boxers are extremely people orientated, yet believe it or not, he enjoys time exploring outside. The OP said it would be a mix of indoor and outdoor, and in my view, with commone sense, and crate training (including sleep indoors in crate) then pretty much most dogs will suit. My biased view - get a Boxer :)
  6. Not a chance. Have a Boxer pup who is very very dog and people friendly and wants to do nothing but play. He knows how to act around different dog types big or small and I would never risk changing his outlook on other dogs because someone else would benefit.
