  1. This might souond like a dumb question would the prong collar hurt the dogs skin on there neck (If they pulled alot) I've never seen someone using one before.
  2. Does anyone know if electric collars are baned in S.A??? I have read a couple of posts where they have been really helpful. But more curious than anything.
  3. Whoops I did just read back my post What I ment to say is that he has Improved heaps since I have been using the harness but still will ocasionally start pulling again ( think he still gets a bit over excited sometimes, Hes still young ) I'm sorry if I offended you as that was not my intent I was just trying to let people know that it has been a great help for me personally. No I didn't . What is a martingale is that a limited slip collar
  4. Hi Aly, I had the same thing with Bailey, before I put him on Eagle Pack. Eagle pack is great food and I'm sure you wont look back I use to get the holistic chicken for $107 for 15kg but the Duck and Oatmeal is a little cheaper.
  5. Thats okay BOF I'm so sorry, that must have been awful That just makes me hate the check chains more
  6. I have no idea about Bar knocking but am very interested in starting Agility Congratulations hazz I would love to do agility with Bailey eventually.
  7. I had tried most things with Bailey Including all the head halters (Black Dog, GL, Halti) the Pro Stop and the Lupi harnesses and none of them worked for Bailey . Then I tried the Sporn harness with him and It has worked wonders To begin with I used it for every walk for a couple of months and giving lots of praise when he wasn't pulling and then began weening him off of it a little bit at a time. Now I can use a flat collar on him with out him pulling. Ocasionally he will start pulling again so I put the halter back on for a couple of times and do the praising again and then he seems to be fine . I do tend to agree with some of the others that it wont fix the problem on its own, it took me a lot of praising, but it made training ALOT EASIER . My arms were not pulled off for one thing I hope you don't mind me asking BOF but how did it ruin your first dog? I was always worried about hurting Bailey with the check chain
  8. Hi there, I think Eagle Pack is great I've tried alot of the other brands and have found E P the best by far, his rashes have cleared up and no more ear infections ! I have tried Innova and California Natrual but they didn't agree with my dog (he came out in a massive rash ) I have heard of a few people that find Innova too strong for there dogs, but your pup might do well on it :p Heres a link to one of the threads Eagle Pack Users
  9. Another Eagle Pack fan here  Bailey has never looked as healthy as what he looks now I have changed him over to eagle pack. His allergies have basically dissapeared too.
  10. Yes that was me. I am glad too that I gave it a try it has been great so far His coat has not changed colour like I was told, you guys were right His coat has actually improved HEAPS, no more spots.
  11. Hi there, I have only been using the holistic Chicken for about 4 weeks and have found it amazing :p Bailey's skin problems have got alot better and even his ears and eyes are just about clear now too. Not to mention his coat is shinier as well ;) I think Eagle Pack is brilliant
  12. Hi There, I use the sporn no-pull harness when walking Bailey. At 42kg he is just too heavy and strong for a collar, I find it works Great . I do use the black dog training collar on him just for his training classes though, which he is good with.
  13. Hi there, I am not a trainer but I did have the same problem with my weimaraner constantly pulling. For the past two months I have been using the Lupi harness which I have found EXCELLENT, NO MORE PULLING :D I just give him a lot of praise when he has it on for not pulling, he loves it.......... It is not bulky when on and price wise is not bad either. It did take him a couple of days to get use to though but worth it. I just wanted to add the webpage for you http://www.companyofanimals.co.uk/lupi.php
  14. Bailey loves the turkey necks He also loves the dried kangaroo tails, they keep him occupied for ages
  15. Hi Fin, Yes the breeder said that the sire was 47kg for show weight but they have at times got him down to 46kg
  16. Thanks Dogdayz Sorry, I was thinking too rich.. He has no trouble chewing bones. He does have a LOT of allergies though, I'm not sure about turkey because he has never had it. Will give the turkey necks a try, and see Oh and will have to get some kangaroo tails for him, I have never come across them before.
  17. Hi, YES.... Thats him alright. Would the turkey neck be too strong for him though????
  18. Sorry... I forgot to say that he has been checked out by the vet and there are no health reasons for his weight so it must be what I'm feeding him. Although he was on antihistamines for a couple of months due to skin allergies I don't know if that would have made a difference?? I will take him off of the chicken wings for a while and give him the chicken necks to see if that helps. The only thing I worry about then is how will his teeth stay clean when not eating bones????????
  19. Hello, Thankyou everybody so much for all your replys. Just answering your question pheeble about his food, He has mainly the eukanuba puppy large breed twice a day (2 cups morning and two cups night) also he has fresh chicken with his morning meal. You can feel his ribs at the moment but there is a bit of fat covering them. I would like to excercise him more but have been told that I should take it easy due to his growing bones. Just for comparison his parents weights are 34kg for the dam and 47kg for the sire (show weights). He is currently about 26inchs at the moment.
  20. Hello everyone, I need some help. I have a ten month old Weimaraner puppy who is currently overweight (has the flabby chest). My vet said that I shouldn't worry because he is still growing and is not overweight by much, is this right??? He is a very stocky boy anyway. He is already taller than most of the full grown weimaraners and has much larger feet. He weighed in at 42kg last month and even after cutting back his eukanuba dry food and cutting back the amount of chicken wings, drumsticks, thighs e.t.c he has not lost a thing. He gets at least an hour of excercise each day (off leash and on). WHAT SHOULD I DO??? PLEASE HELP
