Doesn't help me determine what size I should get for the midget!!!!!!! Think we need a summary of DOL dog breed and size coat
-
Ok guys what size should I get for a midget BC . I am confused with who has ordered what size and what has fitted and what hasn't. Are you guys going on the back lenth measurement or the girth measurement when you have decided. Trying to avoid getting the wrong size .

yep thats what I thought re Cider's name. Haha love Strauss's .
-
I only found out Cider's recently . Not sure what Strauss's is .

You don't suck at coming up with names Ptolomy I liked the selection you came up with when I was working out midget's and the final name was one of your list .

Hmmm MRB I will tell you that is incident that happened in the Open ring wasn't the difference between a comp environment and a training environment - won't say anymore other than that. I don't take the decision to withdraw a dog on a qualifying score lightly and very nearly did so on that day. The only thing that entered into my decision was that I did know Ness was pretty solid and anything wouldn't really impact on her that heavily. If the situation had been a case of my baby dog in the ring on the same score I'd have withdrawn without hesitation.

Feeding Meals Through Training - Raw
ness replied to Red Fox's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Why not use raw meat SecretKei - I have been chopping up chicken necks into bite sized bits as I have been doing some metal article work with Kenz using a clicker and food. Raw mince rolled into balls or even just a teaspoon at a time. -
Could you tether them some how so they are only able to reach there beds and not jump on your bed?? Or can you make some sort of pen rather than a crate so they aren't able to get to your bed while they learn to remain on their own beds overnight?

Not very long I have found normally for free shipping. Think most of my CR stuff has always been received inside a fortnight.
-
RubyStar - have they blocked you guys from spending more money at CR yet .
-
:D yep you got that right hahaha. I am thinking I'll just get a digital subscription to CR - something I wouldn't have normally got but holding off in case I see something that takes my fancy in the meantime. Kenz has tugs coming out of her ears. Loves her foam balls but isn't allowed to retrieve anymore and I already stocked up on those last time . She loves the skinneez toys and wubbas too but again no more toys for midgets .

ValleyCBR NOOOOOOO I haven't spent it I can't decide what to buy . Too many decisions LOL.
-
Vader's mum they have a page which lists all their free shipping items. http://www.cleanrun.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...Category_ID=449

Yep I got one of those Ptolomy but I still say Kenz has been having private emails with Beans or at least somebody must have flicked her that video of Beans and the not dropping .

Mas1981 - I have that Get on the Ball dvd .
-
No I like stays this morning but I just don't like group stays. Wait until tomorrow though I might not like stays again then.
-
Ptolomy has quite a DVD collection but can't remember what is in hers . I could play as well but hmmmmmmm I might be there a while typing up my entire list . Lets just say Ness has all the ones Mirawee wants plus many others .

The owner of the Westie set the dog up for stays and it took off out of the ring inititally. My biggest gripe was the owner said she was withdrawing at that point and then decided once she had spent a little time catching and retrieving her dog that she would then try again. It then took off after the BC next to it. A lot of dogs found competing over 2 days tiring as lots had done the double trial on the Saturday. Its a tough call to compete two days running especially with an AM/PM trial the day before. I only opted to enter the AM trial on the Saturday because I had Ness in both Open and UD on both days and did finish my weekend with 2 Open passes which I mentioned in the brags thread and nothing to be sneezed at considering she has recently celebrated her tenth birthday . ETA. MRB mentioned - hard to give up the opportunity even if it was only practice. I would ask this what benefit is there to practicing stays in a trial environment. The dog either does them or doesn't you have no opportunity to correct or reward. If the dog messes up there is absolutely nothing you can do in the ring. Much better to make use of mock trials or other situations where you can go back and reward the dog for staying. There are number of places you can practice a stay which isn't an obedience trial ring.

Actually the funny thing with the whole sit or drop or stand meaning a default stay I always run into a little difficulty with what I should say as I leave her. Half the time I say nothing why because she has already been given the command to assume the position and in the absence of a command she should continue to hold the same position. Not sure if there is any benefit to repeating the command or not as I walk away.
-
yes RubyStar but that doesn't stop my evil midget from laying down on her sits either - although I gather its a time saving BC thing . If only we could have a 1 min sit stay in front of an agility jump as a novice exercise think she might ace that one. Or a 1 min sit stay while there is a ball thrown way way way out there.
-
sas my version of training stays with my older one these days is show up at a trial if we are on a pass we do stays. Seems to be working for me - touch wood . Has been like that for years now so I have kind of forgotton what its like to actually train and practice stays.
-
This is a question for anybody really and its probably already a slightly biased audience but how many people would do a stay in novice or CCD if they aren't sitting on a pass (or alternatively if your in a higher class what is common practice in your particular state). I know in NSW Syndey metro trials for example I think you have to withdraw after you have failed an exercise (so if you fail heelwork you aren't permitted to do stays anyway). While I don't agree with this as a rule I wonder if that helps alleviate some of the breaking of stay issues that I mentioned. Any thoughts or comments?

Hmmm why is it that my dog has a much better sit stay if I am not standing there watching her. Just took her outside in the yard at lunchtime and got a rock solid sit while I was walking out of sight and doing other things - if I stand there and watch her she is more likely to lay down . Feel your pain with Soggy and returning around behind Ptolomy. Hey stay question for everybody do you start working both sits and drops at the same time or do you build duration for one before introducing the other. And second question what sort of duration would you build in both a sit and a drop.
-
ok maybe its changed I know some judges do RubyStar and the only non-qualifying stay I have done was in WA and yes it was a few years ago now but I do know they have used that option over there in the past.
-
I would think as a starting point the safe guard of qualifying dogs in separate stays would be a good one to adopt. Would then mean I was only risking my dog against dogs who could actually get through a heel pattern and the other exercises. I won't do stays if I am not on a quallie. I am sure there are dogs who can get through the individual exercise but who can't do a stay however at least the owners have shown some level of training over the dog to be able to pass the individual exercises.
