Hmm spoilt lab are you flogging them until they break. You say he starts off solid and then isn't. 5-10 min of heelwork the most you would need in the ring even in UD is a couple of minutes.
-
Try having a 400 dog they are even more in the minority at our club then the 300s, 500s and 600s. But they did go through a stage of deliberately running 400 first rather than 500 . ETA. Snap Amypie you must have been posting at the same time I was.

Level 3 Obedience Training Certificate?

Kiesha I just so happen to use places which I probably shouldn't ;). Dogs On-lead areas make good places to train UD exercises off-lead . -

I would still prefer more "privileges" for a higher trained dog as then I wouldn't have to break any laws to train my dogs in order to avoid the morons out there who seem to think off-leash is a right. As the current situation stands I guess I just have to remain a rule breaker in certain instances if I wish to train my dogs. -

the CBS recall was "fun" you were suppose to unclip the lead in an informal sense wander around until the dog was momentarily distracted and then call them. Kenz's version - hmmm I unclipped the lead she starts bouncing at me wanting to play and waiting for a toy. When that didn't work within 2-3 minutes she starts offering tricks for me. After another couple of minutes we gave up waiting for distracted and I just reattached her lead and class continued . -

so kiesha do you pass if your dog won't leave your side to go and play in the first place. -
well yeah that thought had crossed my mind except for the fact Kenz is mega high drive and loves her training. If Ness pulled it I would say yeah that is possible.

Ok here is one for anybody out there - when do you consider a problem strictly a training issue and not the dog being physically unable to do so. As everybody knows Kenz has/had damaged a shoulder ligament or tendon and was showing few problems other than laying down in sit stays so she was pulled from the ring for a number of months (since April). She first started showing signs of being "sore" in mid December last year. She has managed 2 Novice length sit stays at a trial over that time but after failing 2 on consecutive days in April I pulled her out to concentrate on making sure her shoulder had come good. Fast forward to now - many many months down the track - she is for all intensive purposes back to around 85-90% and has been back in moderate training for a few weeks after she was given the go ahead to increase her activity after her latest Chiro vet appointment. My issue with her as everybody also knows is she is a particularly stress head dog. She seems "fine" when we are out playing or around home and isn't pulling up sore with the training she is doing yet I am struggling to rebuild any sort of sit stay that doesn't involve her weight shifting off her shoulder which just so happens to be the one where we know there are still niggling issues that are yet to resolve and might not yet for some time. Anybody been in a similar situation and got any advice.

Don't you love it when you take your youngster out and do an exercise they haven't done in probably 8 or 9 months and they do it right off the bat as they though they have been doing it there entire live. Nice work Kenz . Bugger about the trial spoilt lab but Ptolomy is sure right you do always take the best dog home again with you after.

Well done Kath and Coco - fingers crossed we can get into UD by this time next year - its such a bugger that you have to get through Novice and Open first as I know a certain BC who loves her UD work (well ok she loves all her work but I would love to trial a dog who actually enjoys doing UD rather than one who is very much what is in it for me - or not as the case may be ).

Level 3 Obedience Training Certificate?

Well MRB it was more a case of why should I have to hassle a club - I would not be the only person with a DogsSA title and figured it would help to educate the council as to what might be higher then of grade 3 standard. Yes I do "train" at a club but when I first went to present my information to council Kenz was having the occasional session at training but had never been in a class and not even been through the ring much. She did however have her DWDF.S title. I didn't push it. But I figured it was stupid not to push it this year when she had a couple of "obedience" passes to her name. In fact when I first applied for the trained dog discount with Ness - I presented all her paperwork and it was only when they saw a club membership badge in the back of my folder that they were willing to give it to me. Never mind all the titles. -
Nice work RV and Toby. Great to hear how far he has come .

- do I ask how Soggy's agility training is coming (well when she isn't in season ).

Hmmm paypal aren't always quick to refund - even obvious fraudulent transactions so don't be quite so sure about how good they are. Credit card is a lot safer then Paypal and the bank a lot more obliging to refund a transaction that I clearly didn't make.

Does this mean the red kids are going to be adding retrieving to their busy lives on top of obedience ;).

Piper - that must depend on the council - a friend was telling me they only ever requested a puppy certificate and never ask for another one again. When they sent out the paperwork the following year the trained dog discount was already included as a default. -

thats great buddy1 - our council has no idea about ANKC titles . I posted something on my FB and another friend in a different council mentioned problems when she presented an OC certificate when they first introduced the discount rego scheme. Apparently that wasn't going to cut it either. -

I don't totally agree with it Zug Zug - my titled young BC girl wasn't able to get a discount last year because she didn't have a grade 3 certificate (despite the fact she was trained well past grade 3 obviously). I decided to get pushy with the council this year though and they finally gave in but it wasn't easy and they weren't going to give it to me without me pushing my point. -

For a puppy - all you need to show is a puppy school certificate. That is all they require for the discount. But its certainly worth attending some form of training . Grade 3 for adult dogs is basically - dog will sit, stand, drop, on-lead, short stays, short recall. What area are you in - there are a couple of reward based clubs aimed at pet dog training - ETA just modified my post since you said you were near the Adelaide Animal Hospital in that case I would recommend: Canine Behavioral School at Trinity Gardens - http://positivelydogs.com/ They would also be able to provide puppy preschool recommendations in the area since a lot of their instructors are also involved in puppy preschools at a number of the local vet clinics. -
You could also try Andrew Specterman - Perfect Capture - he was also a DOL member at one stage. http://www.perfectcapture.com.au/ I had some photos of both my dogs taken by Colonial Photo Studio when Kenz was only tiny.

What about something like a German Pinscher - I don't know much about them other than my young girls breeder has one and I have seen one run locally in agility over here occasionally.

Hugs to you RS. RIP dear Chloe. And another good dose of hugs to anybody else who feels like they could use extra.

Sorry WA I don't have them from there. Most seem to offer a custom made option as part of their service so I would email them if you want something shorter .

Yep I think its Wendy Pape's.
