I like that quote and I've already used it since . Thanks A&J

Sometimes I wonder if Victoria is as bad as it is for all its prohibitive and stifling laws, because Victorians aren't really great at jumping in and literally "doing" things for change, or to prevent the problematic and unfair (in terms of animal welfare and towards people) laws that are proposed. I know there are other people out there who are doing something constructive in an attempt to point out to Government why these proposed laws are wrong, but all in all I see so much more active responses from other States than I do here. Maybe not everyone who is doing stuff about it are actually coming on to DOL for us to know, and I know that DOL does not represent the whole of the Victorian community, but all the same, I know there are many more Victorians out there who don't agree with the laws, so I would have thought we could expect more responses to these threads and indication of activity. Come on Victorians. There are good people working really hard on this. But numbers are needed. You're a voter, so that means YOU .

Thanks Dagmar. Something still puzzles me though, and it's making me think that perhaps I'm not imagining this 'tick removing technique' as it should be. And perhaps I'm taking your "dizzy" comment too literally when it is not meant to be. I'm picturing a tick which obviously has its head/mouth buried into the dog. With the technique, how would the tick get "dizzy"? What I mean is, regardless of whether the tick really does get dizzy or not, it's making me think that the technique twirls the tick right around (over and over), yet from the earlier description, I was thinking it is more like drawing circles on the ticks body with your finger. Hope I'm making sense. Need a YouTube example .

I've sent my email to every member of the Legislative Assembly (lower house). I hope Government appreciate that we think this SO important as to take time away from work which will generate income. *bump*

Hi Casster17 - I can only presume that full details such as name AND address would lend more weight (unless you don't have a Victorian residential address). And if you can send the same as a group email to not only your own MP but as many others as possible, that will help even more so. Thanks

Thanks Wendy. Steve (MDBA) has contributed as well. But we'll need more than that. We CAN head them off at the pass, if we get enough people driven to put pen to paper. Although individual letters are the best, I acknowledge that some people find that too hard (time poor; don't like writing letters .... mind you, I don't particularly like to write them either). So what I propose here is that every person who wants to help in at least one way could write a simple covering letter - something like the following : Covering email letter : "Dear Parliamentary Member I support and endorse the objections and content encompassed in the attached response to Government by Good for Dogs and would ask that you not only accept these points as though they were my own writing, but also take on board and heed the refutes and information it provides, as though it was I who was the author – BEFORE the Government proceeds to passing of yet even more laws that are flawed and which have the tendency to target the responsible people and not those who are the mainstay causes for community interference by their own dogs; and which do NOT and have not had any effect on the lowering of bite statistics; nor which embraces the ideology of “education”. “ Attachment to email : With your email, attach the GoodforDogs response - the link for this is http://www.goodfordogs.org/blog/wp-content...nse_to_Bill.pdf . And this is the Member of Legislative Assembly contact list which will give you all the names, addresses and email addresses you can send to (the more the merrier). Legislative Assembly (Vic) Member Contact List Of course, the "GoodforDogs" well thought out response may actually make sense to you of what the proposals are and how they are likely to (adversively) affect us, to the degree that you might like to take from that and formulate your own individual response. That would be great, but at the very least, please respond to Government one way or the other. Better something than nothing at all. Cheers, and let's band together to fight this now. Once the law is passed the effort to change it when we see and experience the wrongs that it will cause, will be a far greater task than the one at hand.

That's interesting, Dagmar. Although we don't suffer the tick problem as others in warmer/tropical climates than ours, stuff like this is good to know. I just would like to clarify by asking a couple of questions on the 'tick removing technique' if you happen to know? How much pressure do you need to apply when rubbing your finger in a circular motion against the tick's body? What is it that causes the tick to fall off as a result of this technique? I'm imagining a very relaxed and happy tick who has gone into ecstasy for the massage it has just received . Not being smart here, just interested. Also, for those who do need to perform the daily "tick check" ritual - how much time would you spend checking before you'd be satisfied that you've properly looked and checked all over - for example on a medium size dog (labrador or some such) ?

Thanks Mike. I've specifically linked (below) your response to Govt in Opposition to these proposed amendments. I thought it was very well set out and concise. The way I'd prefer my contribution to have been, but just couldn't find the time to get into the mindset of it, and needed some time without the interruptions that have been necessary for me these past number of days. I'm putting it here because some people might miss your link to it. Goodfordogs Response to Bill Troy - I'm not sure if I'm breaking any forum rules by linking this : I tried a copy/paste but I lost all the formatting and it made it laborious to read. Please let me know if you want me to do different than what I have.

I know your relief, Gilypoo, and am so glad for it.

Thanks Casster17. I tried googling as well and Hansard only shows debates/statements up until 6th May, from what I can tell. I'm hoping I didn't make a mistake by emailing the MLC's (Upper House). I'm a bit confused now, as to whether the debate at Lower House level was completed and whether the Bill was actually passed at that level. If it wasn't then I think that means I should have emailed to all the MP's (lower house). I hate political stuff - trying to work out how it runs does my head in. If the debate wasn't finished at Lower House level and if the debate was again adjourned, I'll be emailing all the Lower House MP's tomorrow.

Happy Birthday Message To A Wonderful Woman
Erny replied to ~Anne~'s topic in General Dog Discussion
Are you kidding? Is that possible in the DOL community? LOL for tomorrow, Julie. And many, many, happy returns. -
"Private" rescue. Friend of a friend had a friend who knew a friend. Kal was going to be pts if owner was unable to find a home. Continues to be a work in progress. Improvement, but not 'fixed'. Too much to clog up Mantis' thread with so won't go into it here. Suffice to say he's not out of the woods but for the time being he's eating, his foot cysts have all but gone and whilst he blew some hives the other day I could count them on one hand and they disappeared by themselves. Sloppy poo is what we're struggling to fix at the moment. Apart from that he's still a big, goofy idiot who thinks the world is his play pen and that he knows it all . Thanks for asking. Sorry about the OT Mantis.

Sorry - I didn't realise Victoria had a rescue for RR's. Beg my pardon . Thanks for putting it up there, Rat .

How do you find out whether the Bill was debated and passed or rejected by the Upper House? I checked Hansard, but I can only search for discussions up until 6th May. Surely I don't have to wait 2 weeks to find out the outcome of the debate and/or if in fact it took place at all, do I?

You could perhaps contact the Rhodesian Ridgeback rescue group - they're in QLD but perhaps they have contact with foster homes who are housing Ridgies in other States? It might be a long shot, but if it helps, the number contact (assuming it is current) is 07 5529 9903. Good luck. Your daughter has good taste and a great sense of compassion. My first Ridgy (pictured in my avatar - bhcs) was a "re-home" and I never had a moment's regret that she made her way into my home and my heart.

Delta Society Policy On Raw Feeding
Erny replied to Tintin Jac's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
So, what Delta is really saying is that dogs aren't safe for therapy purposes because of the germs they carry? And yet it's Delta that offers the course. -
I missed this : You do these things and then you try to wrangle out of the fact that you are rude, and condescending. Even your 'apology' has a ring of insincerity to it. You wrote : And : Note your suggestion of me being dishonest above. If you're not accusing me of being dishonest, why are you telling me I just have to be honest (note context of sentence). You are also, in your post, accusing me of cajolery. Point that out, Corvus, seeing as you've accused me of it. Also note your "poke tongue" and "sigh" comment (you wrote "sign" but I think it was a typo, as you tend to "sigh" a lot). So .... I can't have a conversation in a thread supporting and explaining static anti-bark collars UNLESS someone is parading "Ban E-collars"? Rhetorical question, Corvus. No response necessary. So Corvus - I'm saying that I do not appreciate your tone, implications and the other of your expressions that you persistently use in many of your posts. In my day, when children frequently poked out their tongues to others when something was said, as you do, the children were thought of as brattish. I would have let this go, but you do write these things consistently and persistently, then try the 'innocent' backing out of it (I've noticed this is usually forthcoming when you recognise that you aren't supported), as if that excuses you from refraining from rude/snide comments on some other occasion. You talk to people (certain ones .... ones you don't like) in a manner as though you love nothing more than to try to put them down (not that you're very successful, IMO). By doing that, do you think it makes you look superior? Another rhetorical question, Corvus. No response necessary. So, if you "don't mean" what you say, either tidy it up before you hit the submit button, or don't say it. You have also not responded to my request for you to point out where I have "played down the aversives" - your accusation followed up by your direction telling me to stop it.

But I think a healthy 'donation' for the privilege of knowing your dog will go to a home, if you can afford it, would be a welcome bonus to those who do and can help out in these situations .
-
They are, unfortunately. Supposed to be outlawed under the guise of "Animal Welfare" but getting them outlawed I think was just an agenda borne from bloody-minded stubborness and by the time the fight, which went on and on and on for many years, was won, "animal welfare" as its centre focus I fear was forgotten. Just my opinion. But my question about "why Citronella?" was meaning "why not a cold spray or lemon scent spray collar?" (instead of Citronella. Unless you were using "Citronella" collar to mean a "spray" collar .) Re-reading the above, I think I'm confusing myself.
-
I wouldn't hold a lot of store or faith in the sonic collars for dogs who are chronic excessive barkers. Perhaps for soft/sensitive dogs, maybe, at a pinch. But I'll admit that I don't have first hand experience in these. I have read experiences of others in the use of sonic devices without much if any success, but not specifically with the collars, their only difference being that the collar will ramp up the sound intensity/volume if the dog doesn't stop barking. I think you'd have a better chance with the spray collar, but you never know (unless you have a go ). Why do you have no choice other than Citronella?

Cop a 'hit' on the right part of your spine and you feel it everywhere. It's like taking one punch but every bit of your body is 'hit' by it. Difference is it leaves no bruises and you get to simply walk away from it. And maybe your heart is beating to a better rhythm LOL. I remember my first 'hit' from an electric fence - my Dad was standing next to me at the time and I thought he'd punched me in the arm. And I agree - the static anti-bark collars and the RT e-collars are nothing like that.
