Yeah they were disappointed and puzzled, they'd never seen anything like it before and they've been recording all the data for 9 years.

My mum volunteers for the local Coast Care group, so she'll let me know that there's a nest dig on but I often can't get there. Yesterday I could for the first time in ages and the kids and I went down to watch. Coast Care interfere as little as possible, so they wait for the turtles to run and then dig up the nest to collect data on egg numbers, health, losses and all that stuff. Usually there are a few stragglers and they release them too, which is what draws the crowds. The release takes some time because they have to make the journey to the water themselves (it helps unfurl and strengthen their limbs) and they'll finally make it to the water only to be washed back up again a few times. There ended up being 6 live ones sifted from the nest yesterday, only 6 of 30 that made it out of 117 eggs. That's quite a low number, it's usually much higher - the nest was higher up the beach than normal, it was dug up by a fox early on and probably due to that, the roots of plants ended up binding up the sand and eggs so they were unable to hatch and dig their way out. It's always such a lovely thing to see, regardless.

Thank you Roova! She looks pretty good for her age, actually! Her back legs are failing her, but she doesn't have too much grey. This afternoon we went down to watch Coast Care dig up a loggerhead nest (my mum volunteers for them). I had SO much trouble choosing an image for the week, but the little flipper in this one won me over. 13/52

Oops, falling behind with posting! 11/52: My best friend had a baby :) He's 2 days old here and still in hospital. 12/52: Lola just hanging out with me outside while I was shooting something else. I've had back to back weddings so haven't been able to find the energy to get out and shoot anything else (although I've been shooting with film a bit).

I actually love that sky, Snook. And the reflection :) 8/52 Usually, I wouldn't bother taking the camera out in the middle of the day, I'd wait until about 5pm and get the really nice soft light. But shooting weddings means I'm often shooting in less than ideal conditions, so I thought I should just make the best of what was thrown at me. I promise no Frenchies were harmed. LOL.

I had no idea they were a pest (or even in NZ, actually). Still pretty cool to see out and about. Another stunning Marvellous shot, Gap! So good. I think you've done really well. It is and he is. He's almost 9, which is so hard for me to believe. It won't be long before they both tower over me.

7/52 Today we checked out the falls because I have a wedding shoot there in a week. The light fell in the most awesome way and I had a very very hard time choosing an image for this week. There were three contenders.

Fantastic. I've been meaning to give it a try for a while, but I truly suck at long exposures, LOL. My widest is my 35mm. Well, I have a 24mm, but it's only 2.8.

That's so awesome Snook! What lens did you end up using and how long was the exposure?

Thanks Roova. So funny to see my tough brother melt into a puddle. I know. The alpacas were hilarious. They actually bolted down to the trough to wait for it. The lady said some days she finds them laying in it.

Argh, I've been shooting but not posting! 4/52 My brother with his newborn son, still in hospital. 5/52 Just had a weekend away with friends and stayed at a gorgeous little place with alpacas. Apparently they love getting a shower.

Snook that panning is so good and DC, it's really nice to see Sweep. 3/52 - my best friend's baby shower today.

GAPPPPPPPPP. How you've managed to bring so much life to Marvellous, I'll never know. Absolutely beautiful, I love it!
