  1. Don't know why you wouldn't want to crate train. If trained to their crates in a positive way by good association by offering food treats and chew toys (keep pigs ears for e.g just for crate time). Our pups love their crates (as does my other older dog) and know something good is coming when they go inside. I also give all bones in their crates. They love it and I can supervise. It is a cosy secure place for them to rest and we take one with us when we go visiting. Allows us to take them visiting (good socialisation) and we can relax in others peoples places knowing they aren't off chewing or pooing where they shouldn't. I attach the playpen to the crate so they can move between the two areas. On thing though, never ever punish your pup to her crate. If you need a 'time out' place, choose a different place. My pup loves her crate and she will sometimes go into her crate herself to sleep It is a place where she can feel safe and secure.
  2. Hello chugo101, Congratulation on your new pup!!!! We got our Dobeman female pup last month and know how you feel. Our pup is like this too. She will picks up anything on the ground that she can gets into her mouth and chews them. The only thing I will make sure is that she doesn't swallow the stones. I am pretty sure they will grow out of it as our other dogs do not do that now and she also seems to do that lesser nowadays. Do you crate train her? We crate train her since we got her and it really helps us in our toilet training. We will lock her in a crate with lots of toys and let her out a few hours later to pee and poo. As puppy does not like to soil their own bed, this really helps. Most of the time she will eliminate instantly once she is let outside. I read somewhere that puppies cannot control their bladder fully until they are older. That will explain why she pee 5 mins later inside the house. What we usually do is to wait awhile after she pee or poo outside before letting her in. One thing really helps is the introducing of a "Go Pee" and "Go Poo" command. And when they pee or poo we will treat her and praise her continuously. This really helps during those cold weathers when we just want to get into the house as soon as possible We would avoid scolding her if she pees or poos inside as we do not want her to think that it is wrong to eliminate. We will just quietly clean it up. It has been 4 weeks since we got her and things are getting along much better now. I guess we just have to be patient

  4. I might have fed too much. As I can still see her ribs, I thought she is alright. For Breakfast, I will feed a handful of fresh minced beef and chicken with half a cup of Holistic Eagle Pack kibbles. For Lunch, I will feed her either chicken frame or neck. For Dinner, I will feed a handful of minced veg (50%) and minced meat (50%) with a spoon of plain yoghurt as toppings. Once in awhile, I will add sardine or egg to her breakfast or dinner. I feed offals like liver and heart at least once a week.
  5. Hello Everyone, I think my 11 weeks old Doberman pup is having very mild knuckling over in her front legs. We have been feeding her raw diet and Holistic Eagle Pack for Large/Giant Breed Pups as supplements. Raw Diet: Minced Chicken Carcass Minced Topside Beef Ocassional Sardines, Chicken Liver & Heart and Eggs Minced Veg e.g. carrots, brocolli, cauliflower, pumpkin, celery, etc..... Daily Chicken necks or frames 1 - 1 1/2 cup of Holistic Eagle Pack for Large/Giant Breed Pups kibbles daily Can any of you see any wrong with this diet? Does "knuckling over" causes trembling in her front legs? We are planning to just feed her Super Premium Eagle Pack for Large/Giant Breed Pups only for now until it gets better. Thanks
  6. Mmmmm, I tried that but the search returns nothing.
  7. I am thinking of sending my dobe pup to puppy class and obedience course at ADT. Any of you have any experiences to share? How much do they charge? Thanks
  8. Thanks for your advice. Mmmm, now we have to make extra effort not to let her run around too much.
  9. Hello Everyone, We have a Doberman pup and were wondering how much exercise can we give the pup? Is it alright for her to climbing up and down the stairs. Is it alright if she runs around the house crazily and sometimes fall over? I heard that we are not suppose to exercise them too much as it will cause hip problems in the future esp climbing of stairs but she is doing it on her own accord. Do I stop her? What are your opinions? Thanks
  10. Hello Everyone, Thanks for sharing your experiences. Currently, we are carrying her for a walk and she is heavy Don't think we can do that for long as she grows bigger. She has also travel in a car in a crate. We socialize her with our other dogs and to as many stuff in our home as possible i.e. hair dryer, TV, crying baby and so on...... Some friends will be coming over to our place tonight and we will take that opportunity to socialize her to other people. We will be looking for a puppy socialization class around our area. Are there anymore creative ideas out there on how we can socialize our pups without putting their health at risk? This is a photo of her at 8 weeks old and she is 9 weeks old now.
  11. Thanks for all the advices. With regards to carrying big dogs, is it actually advisable? When the pup is older, will he thinks that he is still a pup and wants to jump on your lap?
  12. Hello All, Not sure if this is the right place to post this thread. We are expecting our Doberman pup next week and really looking forward to it. We would like to begin socialising her to as many stuff as possible during the critical period but at the same time we are concern with health issues as she is not fully vaccinated yet. Is there anyone/vet know the risk of parvo and other virus that might harm the pup before her full course of vaccination? What do most of you all do? Thanks in advance for your advice Edited to correct some spelling errors.
  13. I tried Supercoat then switched to IAMS and I am now feed my GR pup Proplan. Indeed, you pay what you get. When feeding on Proplan, his poo is much lesser and less smelly. Besides, his coat turns out much nicer too.
  14. My Golden Retriever pup is slightly over 16 weeks now. My breeder advised me to feed him Supercoat. But I realised that he poos and drinks alot. Apparently, I was told that the reason he drinks alot is due to high level of sodium chloride(salt) in Supercoat. We are now feeding him IAMS puppy food for large breed. I posted a topic earlier regarding the appropriate protein level in a dry food. Like what Goldielover said, my breeder also recommend me to change over to adult food at 5 months of age. She also said that the adult dry food has to contain less than 20% of protein and specifically advised against feeding him Eukanuba We are still undecided on when to switch over and what to switch to. The protein content in EP is not much different from the rest of the premium food. But it seems that many DOLers are feeding EP axxl I know what you mean ;) goldielover Is IAMS one of them? But IAMS is only considered a premium food right??? May I also ask where did you get you 18kg EP from? jodee WHAT??? 18kgs at 16 weeks???? My golden retriever pup weights only 10kgs now and he is also about 16 weeks old. And I thought my pup is HUGE as compared to my other dog who is a Shih Tzu X weighing less than 5kgs edited to correct the presentation of this post
  15. Hello Everyone, Thanks for all your advices. He finally poo-ed this morning. And it was a solid one. A long thin strip  of SHIT  Thanks once again.
  16. Are you referring to yogurt for humans i.e natural flavour?
  17. Hello Everyone, Is it normal for a 10 weeks old pup not to defecate for 4 days? Other than that, he is perfectly alright. As active as ever :D He doesn't have difficulty defecating. He just don't defecate. He recently recovered from diarrhea and now went to the other extreme. Have any of you experience this before? We saw Dr Harry at the Pet Expo yesterday and he advised us to add alittle oat bran to his diet. Thanks.
  18. That explains the additional tablet I have to feed him in 2 weeks time
  19. Eagle Pack???? I don't think I see it at the pet stores. My vet sells Hills (Science Diet). I have a 9weeks old Golden Retriever pup. Currently he is on home-cook food because of diarrhea. The vet advised something bland like cooked rice & rice.
  20. Our Vet recommend Advocate.... This is for all intestinal worms, heart worms and fleas.
  21. Hello Everyone, Just want to get some of your opinions of the commercial dry food that is in the market today. There are so many brands in the market today. IAMS, Eukanuba, Super Coat, Bonnie, Science Diet, Pedigree, Purina and so on........ What do you feed your dogs? And why?? Thanks
