Flags For Tracking Training
weisnjac replied to MolassesLass's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I use wire rod, Bend the top to make a loop and tie on some bright ribbon or material. East to get in the ground and cheap too -
Thanks again everyone for the well wishes! Millie came home this morning and has spent the day flat out. She was a bit active this afternoon, trying to keep her quiet is going to be tougher than we thought. She is the crate in the loungeroom at the moment and is getting taken out the front on lead for toilet breaks, away from the other dogs. So far, so good. She is licking at her stitches a little but hopefully everything else heals well. It's been quite a ride.
-
The crate is already set up and we have a bag full of AB :D The vet called a short time ago to say she is doing well and should be right to come home tomorrow. Hopefully nothing goes wrong this time!
-
Millies 2nd surgery went well. The inside stitches had come loose and they had to open back up and re stitch. She will hopefully be able to come home tomorrow.
-
Ah, now I know who you are Thanks for the offer, I'll yell out if I need anything.
-
Millie has to go back under again. She has a lump under the stitches and it has bruised quite badly, they think the internal stitches on the wall have burst Won't know anymore for a while as they can't operate as she had breakfast this morning. I'm at work, mum just rang with the news, she is sounding so depressed at the moment.
-
Just a quick update, she is still doing well. The vet has said she may come home today, as long as she is still improving. Mum has taken the next two weeks off work to be home with her and I am now runnng the Wei Obedience Trial on Saturday by myself as mum will stay at home with her. Thanks everyone for the well wishes, I'm hoping the worst is over and she will begin recovering more at home

Millie is at Hoyle Street Coleen, we have been seeing Kate & Amanda for as long as I can remember. The vet looking after her is actually only new to the hospital. I love him already He is going to call again tonight to let us know how she is going.
-
Sorry fifi, it was a long night waiting up for phone calls. The vet has been just fantasic. Millie stayed down here and he stayed, checking on her and doing bloods during the night. He called with each update. She is doing really really well. He took her for little walk this morning and she went to the toilet. He has sedated her a little more to keep her quiet. He gave us the option of going in to see her this after noon, not sure if we will just yet as it might just upset her. It come on so quick yesterday, mum was down at our local obedience club as usuall and she was fine all morning, she came home to wash the dogs and noticed Millie was not herself and started gaging.
-
Thats the idea we are going for, our vet is very helpful and knows what Millie is like so hopefully she will figure out an easier/safer option.
-
Just had a phone call from the vet. So far, so good. Her stomach was twisted about 180 degrees but no organs were damaged. They are currently stitching the wall so will be a while until she is out yet. There is talk of sending her to Melbourne tonight as no-one stays at our local vet overnight. Not sure thats a good idea with Millie being such a stress head but they said they will discuss options later on. Thanks everyone for the thoughts and well wishes

Thanks so much fifi, Just had another phone call. They think they have caught it early enough. A tube was put down and they are going in to make sure everything is OK and to do a Gastropec (sp?). Sounds good so far, just waiting on the phone call from the vet

I was on my way home from the show today when my mum called. She thinks Millie our older Wei is bloating and say's she is off to the vets. Just had a phone call back now that I'm home, yes it is bloat, they are waiting on a vet nurse to come in for surgery What happens now? I know all about bloat and what signs to look out for etc. but never actually had experience with it. Will she be OK, can she still have trouble through the operation? I'm worried bloody sick

What To Do Next? Where To Go From Here?

I never said you were an idiot Gayle. The ring is used for training, we don't put people up classes every week. -

Who did you ask about Wednesday? They run just about all year round?? We are a country obedience club. Our aim is to teach people basic obedience, you move through the classes and if you are interested in trialling you can continue onto more ring work with experienced trialers. This is why we have the ring set up. Most people use Saturday mornings as a social outlet and to socialize their dogs. Most would have no inclination to start trialing. Most never do. I would suggest you ask who is around to put people through the ring in the morning. Go into class for a bit of work, then leave and get put through the ring. Or, go through the ring in the morning and join back in class for the group exercises. Come down tomorrow night if you can, about 4-4.30pm. Danni is more than welcome too. -

Gayle, We have meetings once a month, come along and tell people what you are unhappy with. We are here to try and help you. The dates are in the magazine for every to see it is clearly states 'all welcome'. The ring is set up every week but we don't know you want to be put through unless you come and ask. Mum & Eddie are there almost every week to put people through. We don't have someone standing out there waiting all day in case someone wants to be put through, but if you ask, there will most likely be someone who will be more than happy to do so. We have called out in the mornings that the ring is there and an instructor is available if you wish to leave class and be put through. We have training night's on Wednesday nights for people trialing, see someone in the office about this. I'm very surprised with all the people you have asked that you haven't found this out already. We have a ring set up and everyone is put through individually with group exercises at the end. I am assuming it was John you are talking about who fobbed you off. This is not like him at all, you must have caught him on a really bad day. He is usually the one who runs the Wednesday night training sessions and he is currently Overseas, this is what he may have been talking about. Mum (Gail with the Wei) will still be going down if you are after extra help. See her on Saturday morning. -
The bitch is 14 months old, she started changing after her first season. Has been a couple of months since finishing her season and she is continuing to get worse. Friend made a trip to the health food store and brought what was suggested above, fingers crossed it works for her. She wont be pushing anything on her and will be keeping her away from shows for a while to see if any improvement is seen. Thanks for the suggestions

Stella's cough had eased off a bit over the last couple of days. Home from work today and I hear it....kennel cough, not just Stella but Pippa too :p . No shows for me this weekend
-
Thank you. This breed is about Rotty size. I will pass on this info
-
Thanks! She has been out of the ring for a few weeks now as my friend isn't confident having her in there at the moment. She is down the local club (obedience) on a Wednesday night when there are not too many people around. Last time she let me and mum go over her fine, but she knows us very well. What do you suggest with the primrose oil? I've never used it for anything before.

I'm after advice for a friend of mine. She has a dog who is shown, has always had a great temperament, loves other people and always stood well for judges etc. She had her first season a few months ago and her temperament started to change. She became unsure of strangers and now will not stand for the judge. When it first started she completely freaked, wouldn't let the judge near her at all. They tried again in case she was having an off day but she is doing the same all the time now. It is getting to the point that when they are out for their walk she is barking at strangers and is now unsure of people she has known since she was a puppy. This bitch is a lovely and if showing didn't turn out, she was going to do obedience with her, with this reaction to people, that might not be a possibility now. She has been to the vet and chiro and no-one has any advice that is helping. My friend it at her wits end and this is not the dog she had 3 months ago. I have never had any experience with a bitch changing temperament after their season so have no advice to give.

Thanks Jbbb, The vet didn't mention anything else to me as to what it could be. Just said, not KC could be a blockage. Temp was fine, heart was fine and she is still her usually feral self, scabbing for food and jumping off the walls ;) Still has me worried though, the cough sounds so painfull

My young JRT Stella started coughing after tea Tuesday night. She had a small amount of dry and a chicken wing. It started about 10 minutes after eating and is a really harsh cough, like she is trying to bring something up. About an hour later she started bringing up some froth, and at about 11pm, brought up some of the dry food. Off to the vets first thing yesterday morning and he suggested to take her home and offer her some lunch and water and see if she has any trouble keeping anything down. If she had any trouble, we would be back at the vets for X-Ray's to make sure there is nothing stuck. She ate some dry for lunch fine, had a drink of water and I watched her all day. She ate tea fine and slept in my room so I could keep an eye on her. Never brought anything back up. She still has the cough and is on some meds (can't remember what they are, I'm at work). But is not bringing anything up now. Could it be an irritation from the chicken wing going down wrong? Could something still be stuck even though she is eating well? It has me worried even though the vet said if she is eating fine, everything should be OK. Would you keep up with the meds and keep an eye on her or be back for X-Ray's just to be sure?
