  1. I had a bit of a hunt but couldn't find a 2013 brags thread so figured I would start one myself (must have been a slow start to 2013 as normally somebody would have started one by now).

This past weekend we had the SA State Obedience and Rally Champs. Two days of trials. Unfortunately the weather gods decided to play hard and turned on some warmer then expected conditions which made it really tough going on all the dogs.

Any way my brag for the weekend is my baby Kenz was entered in her first two Rally Advanced trials and not only did she pass both trials but walked away with a second place on the Saturday and a third place on the Sunday. Sunday was very much a case of great dog shame about the handler and she would have scored much higher if I hadn't messed up a station and cost her 10 points.

Its certainly been a super rough time with my baby girl lately and I can't honestly say for how much longer she will be able to manage but she gave me all she could this past weekend. She really does love it out there and its just devastating she has been through such a rough time of things. I love her to bits and she did extremely well on very minimal training in what has been forever. We take things a day at a time and no idea what the future holds for her.

I know a few other DOL people who also did extremely well this past weekend so hopefully they will come in and post their brags as well :D.

It was great to see you and Kenzie back in the ring Ness biggrin.gif Though I didn't get a chance to watch you, as I was a bit busy with the 3 sheppies in two rally classes!!

My news is that with 3 dogs competing, Seven & Tasha in rally excellent and Jim in rally novice, my "team" managed 6 passes, 3 titles, 2 rally excellent and one rally novice with 2, 1st placings & 3, 2nd placings thumbsup1.gif

To top it off, Seven won State Rally Champion Excellent (A) and her litter sister, Neisha, won State Rally Champion Advance (A)

WELL DONE Xena98 clap.gifand to the lovely ladies from WA........... Ptolomy & Bedazzledx2 ...........cheer.gifchampagne.gif

It was lovely to see Bedazzledx2 again after meeting her & Brookie when they came down to Tassie a few years ago!!

  2. last night I was out show training my Gsd boy, Jim, who has 2 legs of his rally novice and training well for advance & excellent.

He is running well in front of me and the only thing he is struggling with is to "go round" the ring consistantly.

So I gave him the word "round" and what did he do...........................................span round alongside me laugh.gif

My friend (his breeder) once she stopped laughing, asked me what command am I using for our 180 pivots (advance/excellent)..........

    do'h........................biggrin.gif

Me thinks "go on" maybe a better option biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

  3. Here it seems to go alphabetically on the owner's surname.

That appears to be the case in NSW.

    In Vic its random.

biker girl if your dog has an issue you can always swap on the day with the other exhibitors

    .

You may want to check with the Steward and/or Judge before you try this.

    Thanks guys thumbsup1.gif

It was a question that was thought of the other night while discussing ring craft with some newbies.

  4. What about a corgi? I have Cardigans, but either breed might appeal to you. They're small/medium dog, with short legs. I find their exercise requirements are moderate, as long as they get a reasonable amount of mental stimulation. My older girl sucessfully does Obedience, Rally-O and Dances with Dogs, and my 4 month old pup is already showing lots of promise, and I've had a few people eyeing him off for other sports.

They can be a little aloof with strangers, but love their own people, and those they consider friends, and mine are both great with kids, despite minimal contact with them.

Fairly easy grooming, but they do shed a LOT. Smart and easy to train, but beware, because they are a little prone to independent thinking!

    Another for Cardis thumbsup1.gifthumbsup1.gif

Great little dogs........Jan West has had a couple of ADM titled Cardis in Victoria

  5. A name you can scream across a paddock at 80 decibels without dying of embarassment is the way to go.

Not too many syllables and ending in a 'y' sound tend to be easy. You can always look up girls names meaning "Golden".

If you turn "Pip" into "Pippa" it will be a bit easier to scream. Millie already has the "y" sound at the end.

not wanting to get too OT, but yes, you most certainly want a name that doesn't embarass you.................friends named their staffy...........Woof, cool name thumbsup1.gif

until Woof got out one day and the two owners are running up and down the street calling out........"Woof, Woof, Woof"...................................rofl1.gif

  6. The owner of the Groomers has just called me. She was very upset and sorry.

When I asked if she could please explain how such a thing could happen she told me that Buddy was left chained on a drying table while the girls were at lunch!

:mad :mad No one was in the room or even within ear shot. She obviously isnt trying to cover anything up, that is horrendous

It was only that the owner went to a customer at the front counter that she saw him hanging dead.

Are you kidding me  WTF !!! This is going to send me insane, just too much.

She said if there is anything I want just tell her..... how about my precious boy being treated with a pinch of care!!!!!

Thanks for the encouragement everyone, your support means the world to me.

    confused.gifeek1.gifconfused.gifeek1.gif

At least she has contacted you!

Who-ever left Buddy should be sacked immediately...............

  7. I remember putting Lassie on for my daughter when she was about 6 years old.....when Lassie was walking through the snow to get home she burst into tears and still to this day reminds me of that horrible movie (she is 28)

Those Lassie movies scarred me for life, I still cry and I'm 45!!

Can't and won't watch them or others that were mentioned as I know I will sob my heart out embarrass.gif

Benji hasn't been mentioned and there are several films with him, also the Littlest Hobo

  8. LisaCC, you will find that quite a few of us on this forum not only "do" showing and obedience but retrieving, agility, dancing with dogs, heel work to music, herding and even sledding with their "show dogs" thumbsup1.gif

For me I do showing, obedience and sometimes a bit of agility and I find that even though I don't use different collars and leads, for my dogs it's the different way I hold the leash both on the dog and in my hand.

When I show the leash is in my left hand and I hold it up about chest height and quite forward................I show Gsds........... when I do obedience though the leash is still in my left hand, my left hand is placed on my left hip and that's where is stays unless I am giving hand commands.

    Hope that helps biggrin.gif

  9. Hey BikerGirl did the station the sit your dog drop your dog tell your dog to stay and walk around I just didnt stop long enough

oh pooh frown.gif though the rules do say "pause" before heeling off.

I had to do a retry on that station, was watching my "plus one" too closely and almost missed the drop, I got the halt in and just before I was about to move off, realised that I had forgotten the drop, so a quick "retry" do it again biggrin.gif

  10. WELL DONE to Xena98 the dreaded not seeing a station and walking past it biggrin.gif very easy done laugh.gif That's one of the challanges of rally, reading the stations and not listening for the judges directions biggrin.gif

WELL DONE to Bully too thumbsup1.gif onwards to advance now biggrin.gif

And well done to everyone else who had wonderful results with their dogs over the past weekend.

Hopefully after the Blue Lake weekend of rally, there will be a few dogs ready for excellent rally at the first trial of next year thumbsup1.gif

  11. Brag from me - about time I have something to post in this thread. Both kids were entered in a double Rally-O trial today, both needing 2 passes for their Rally Novice titles.

Well the old girl Ness did brilliantly and got some brilliant scores for both her passes. A nice way to retire .

Kenz also managed to put together two solid rounds and finished up her Rally Novice title as well.

A good day and they both got very well deserved special treats on the way home from the trial .

WELL DONE Ness .....................now on to advance with Kenz thumbsup1.gif
