  1. I've done liver in the microwave and OH was : ;) so I want to try it in the laundry (where he never ever goes!) And i am also a kitchen gizmo queeeeeeeeen.
  2. Bumpy on this one as I am thinking about getting one too and am really interested to hear any answers to Andisa's questions!
  3. So sorry to hear about your loss. Image looks like a beautiful girl. RIP Image..
  4. HI all again, Thanks for your replies. For the past couple of days I've fed him some rice, chicken mince and chicken liver all cooked in the rice cooker. It seems to be a bit more palatable to him than the tinned stuff the vet gave me. It is good to hear that there are people out there who have been through similar issues. Thanks!
  5. Thanks all for your replies so far. Ralf is on antibiotics but not painkillers. We are trying to feed him half a tin of Eukanuba vet diets - intestinal formula (as advised by the vet) and I've been mixing it in with some raw chicken mince and egg. I may try to cook the mince today and see how that goes. I hope tomorrow goes well too.
  6. Hi all Ralfie my six year old desexed dobermann had to be rushed to the vet on Saturday morning after a night of vomiting. They ended up doing some tests and rushed him in for an emergency op. To make a long story short they ended up having to remove about 30 cms of his small intestine due to a blockage (a macadamia nut that he'd eaten at my parents place - still in the shell). Anyways, he came home on Tuesday, has eaten a little but is very sleepy and has little dobe enthusiasm. He's going back to the vets for a checkup tomorrow. I was wondering who out there of you has had dogs who had had major ops like this? Can you give me advice as to what I can do to help him eat and get his strength back? How long did it take for them to "get back to normal?" I know it has been a major op and if it was a person it would take a long time, but I was just curious on the dog side of things.. Thanks for the advice.
  7. Me too... I ordered a medium for the dobies and it was on sale! Will let you know how i get on... I'm looking forward to trying it out.
  8. Mine get raw once a week (usually sardines or pilchards) frozen or thawed and they eat it whole. They also get a tin of salmon or tuna mixed with some yoghurt and some weet bix or brown rice as their "carbs" meal every once in a while. They looooove it. Actually, they love nearly EVERY food.
  9. We've got 2 dobers and they leave hair everywhere. Sounds like this is good for short hairs too? - Sounds very tempting.
  10. Hi, Sounds like a great tool. How often do you use it?
  11. We fill up a couple of those large watering cans with warm water from the laundry and make sure we do our dobers on the lawn (well what is left of it). We just use conditioner, no shampoo required. Couple of those large cans for rinsing and they're done. I find the watering cans work better than a bucket so you can get the spray funnel right down onto their coat and also tilt it around to get on their chests and undersides. They get a towel down straight after and of course a pigs ear each. They'll pretty much put up with anything for one of those!!
  12. So sorry to hear of the loss of your dobie girl. She looks beautiful. It sounds like she had a wonderful life with you.
  13. Thanks Jenny, and thank you all for your responses and threads. I agree that this "rarity" seems very common! - I will definitely take them both for another check up at a homeopathic vet. Bindi currently has no further external symptoms but is still very sooky, quiet and lethargic, so I am still concerned about her. She is pepping up a bit today, but still not quite her usual self. The thing I found interesting about this is that the "allergy" has developed over time. Hmm. Staffyotopeia, glad your furkid is ok now.
  14. Dogbesotted, can i get the details of your vet?
  15. Thanks dogbesotted. The vet didn't even mention this to me, so I will definitely force the issue.
  16. Hi, I am new to the forum, I normally just browse around... however I over the weekend I had a terrible incident, which i thought I should share with the forum. We have two dobermans, a boy and a girl, both about 3 and a half. They are our kiddies, Ralf and Bindi. Anyway, As usual, she was up for her yearly C5 shot from the vet. They both have had them yearly since they were ready for the innoculations. We went to the vet as usual. No differences to any other time. - No news from the vet, just a standard checkup and the needle. (other than comments about their great coat and teeth, thanks to BARF). However within 35 to 40 mins of getting them home, Bindi's face had blown up so much that her eyes became slits. She broke out in hives all over her front legs, and parts of the front part of her back. We raced her to a local vet (not our usual vet, where the vaccinations were provided), who immediately saw her and gave her a shot. She was a calm girl, no noise, but obviously in some difficulty, her breathing was shallow, she looked like a different dog, and her face was obviously either stinging or very itchy. The vet had also found some water in her lungs. She stayed at the vets under observation for another hour, I stayed with her to make sure she was ok. The vet finally gave her the ok, and we could take her home. My partner had meanwhile raced home to check on Ralf to make sure he was ok. He was fine. We spoke to the vet who provided the injections who stated that they had the exact same vaccinations as last time, same brand and everything, and that Bindi must have developed the allergy over the last 12 months. He said it was highly unusual and she was one of like 0.1% of dogs who would be affected. However, even at these odds it is not good enough! Luckily we were at home to see this happen. What if we had just dropped them off at home after the vet's visit and left them unattended? Potentially Bindi would not be here. The vet that we took her to for the immediate treatment explained that unless she is to go to a Boarding kennel, there is no need for her to receive these annual shots. I obviously agree with this sentiment and our dogs will no longer be vaccinated. I have emailed our breeder, who is very against giving vaccinations, and has also recommended that we get a thyroid and blood test to make sure there is nothing else wrong. I just wanted to post this so people are aware of the potential side effects of vaccinations, and to make sure they watch their puppies after a trip to the vet, in case something really bad happens!
