I've had the same with my coolie boy, elderly gentlemen who come to reminisce with me about their days on farms when they had coolies Ons, my large golden retreiver, attracted a rather nice man over to him when I was visiting my parents at Christmas time. He was telling me about how he just had to put his very old golden retriever down, then got a bit teary and left suddenly

Do you think it's possible that you view his behaviour through a different lens because of his background? I wonder if a dog's history (or perceived history) can colour our perception to some degree. My guess is the special ones are special regardless of background.... maybe? maybe. interesting thought. Would he have been the same if I had got him from a pup. He may well have been and also being a working dog breed would make him to be more inclined to be loyal and attached to one person. He was a foster dog, I had fostered before him, I have fostered after him and he is the only one that failed fostering and became a forever dog OT a bit but I have a coolie pup which Flash my rescue boy is, so it is interesting to compare the two of them and how Latte will turn out. One thing though is Flash is absolutely petrified of brooms, still after 3 1/2 years of living with me whilst Latte attacks them

my dogs all seem to sense when I feel sad. the most amazing time was when I had my little Daisy, a maltese RIP. She was so hyperactive and uncontrollable if she didn't get her daily walk. However I had a car accident and for four days couldn't move off the couch. She did not move from my side for those four days, didn't ask for anything, just laid there. On the fifth day I was feeling a little better, on that day she went back to her normal hyperactive state

good for you Teresenad88 for realising whilst you would love the sibe he isn't the dog for you If more people did this there would be far less dogs in rescue, particularly working dogs. I have 3 dogs from breeders, 1 dog from Rescue. Whilst I love all my dogs dearly there is just something special about my rescue fellow, he is just the most loyal loving fellow. Whilst I will probably always have a dog from a breeder I will always have at least one rescue dog

cute pup! consistency does work, a sharp no and a push away has begun to work for my pup. Then if she wants to sit on my lap she knows she has to be gentle and the message is getting through. It's so hard for these little balls of dynamite but consistency and excited praise for doing the right thing works. and yes, they do have sharp little teeth ouch!

I changed vets because of how my female golden retreiver was treated and she is now scarred for life about vet tables where as before she didn't mind. I took Tilly because I knew she had an UTI. the vet thought it was worse and she had bladder stones and wanted to do an ultrasound so I had to take her otu the back. Now Tilly is a sensitive dog and can be stubborn but she will do things if encouraged to. before I could get her on the table the vet had lifted her on the table and manhandled her onto her back and got the vet assistant to hold her down It would have been so much better if I had been allowed to put her on the table, got her into a down position then we could have rolled her over, she would have done that but nope she was forced on to her back. I didn't realise how much it affected her until her next vet visit. No I didn't write a letter, unfortunatley this vet is the "specialist" vet in our area and I may have to use them at some time. I have heard since of other animals being treated the same.

I took my Tilly for her first show class tonight. The instructor who is a golden retreiver expert said she moved beautifully, I just have to remember it's not heel right at the left hand side like in obedience, once that clicked in we did well. Also have to teach her stand My aim is December at Walcha Show. Have to transfer her across from limited to main register as well.
-
I was just going to concentrate on obedience, try and get at least CDX and CD and then switch over to agility. Is there going to be any problem with this? Should I be training her for agility as well now? she is a bright spark but now I'm getting confused and worried

thanks so much for this list I have a coolie pup who I am hoping to do obedience then agilty with, at the moment we are going to show training classes instead of puppy school so she is getting a good socialisation. But next month we are going to obedience. can I ask what this means though to become operant early on thank you

I think it's an absolute wonderful idea I would be thrilled to receive a small present from my golden retreivers breeders even the one that I haven't kept in contact with Playing devil advocates here, but if for any reason they couldn't keep the dog I think they would think that the breeder does care about the dog because of the contact at the 1st birthday and we will ask them what to do

I appreciate the by appointments when I board my dogs and pay for the boarding of my dogs I want the kennel staff looking after my dogs not spending all their time showing visitors around by having viewing times by appointment only the kennel staff can arrange their activities around this.

I have four, I think that's my limit my family thought I was mad for owning three dogs, they don't know about the fourth at the moment I worry my oldest dog probably is missing out a bit on attention because of the pup and the fact I'm recovering from illness so not been able to exercise them but that will even out soon as I'm alot better, the pup gets older and I am starting to take him and the pup for walks together I also own 3 cats there's only me I'm lucky enough to say that I find feeding time is easy - I have always been strict that no dog has been allowed to eat out of another dog's bowl. and I feed in strict order although it's not in pack order but it works for my lot my friend has well over 30 dogs that's far too many in my opinion.
-
:D I can believe that! Older dogs all have the same bowl but different colours, Flash has the red one, he knows he is only allowed to eat out of that. Strict feeding order as well, Tilly, onsy then Flash. His mum can be a bit distracted sometimes and puts the red bowl down in front of Tilly and then wonders why Flash starts to follow her around when his food has been put down

How Many Of Your Dogs Do You Walk At Once?
Ons replied to snow_wolf's topic in General Dog Discussion
When I had my foster kelpie here I walked my three and the kelpie together, they were all good I have two golden retreivers and a coolie Now I have a fourth one of my own I'm not going to be lazy - there are going to be two separate walks especially when she is walking on the lead so nicely, if I take her with my oldest golden who walks nicely she will pick up good habits and I can concentrate on her. I couldn't if I had all four of them at once. -
:D :D Flash probably says "Mum if you let me catch one of the cats you can save your money on a squeaky toy for me" :D I may have done a bit of ordering tonight ;) ;) a few things from Pet Warehouse, and a few from Wagsalot. I'll see what he likes best and post pictures thank you everyone for their help

Mine are all on Supercoat and do well, three on the large breed, the pup on Puppy Supercoat I found that the three adults were always hungry on Bonnie, always wanting more food. They don't do this on Supercoat.

I didn't know this was the difference I had the bad cuz but left it at my friend's. Flashy never played with it although his golden retreiver sister did. I was intending to get another one for his baby coolie sister as I think she will enjoy it. Flash found it too big lol at LisaKiwi's bad doggies destroying the bad cuz but not the good one

he unfortunately finds balls quite difficult to carry, and I daren't get the small size ones as I have two golden retrievers and worry they would swallow them if I wasn't watching all the time. but thanks for the suggestions coz indeed the other dogs may like want new toys I did find a hamburger but it was really thick so he didn't like it. I'll keep looking but we don't have any petshops near me that I use - three sell live animals and the other one is the one related to Pet Paradise and very very expensive. I do all my ordering of pet stuff on line but I'll do a google when I get home. I'm thinking that I might take him to the vets for a check up as well. I know that he has trouble chewing things and the vet did tell me that his teeth were bad probably from bad food as a pup or antibiotics when a pup (before he came to live with me). I do give him lots to chew on though because I know it's good for him.

;) ;)

Flash will think those mats look great thanks Wagsalot! Not sure if I think they are great though ;) squeak, squeak, squeak - eek eek eek ;) Do you sell them? Not sure if a bottle isn't too big for him, I know my other coolie who is only a puppy loves playing with a bottle especially on tiled floors so she may like them. I'll look into them as well.
-
;) ;) that looks great! Thanks Megan! just one question, is it easy to squeak? thank you!
-
My coolie boy had a hamburger squeaky toy which was only about an inch and a half thick, quite round, and had a squeak in the middle, he was obsessed with that toy but I can't find a replacement as unfortunately it got loved too much. So I'm looking for something else but it must be of good quality and strong as I also have Mr Must Destruct Everything Golden Retriever. Flashy is only a small coolie, he was a rescue dog and his teeth aren't that good ;) Out of the many toys at our place he only really plays with a teddy (soft and not very wide), a basketball which is squashed and this hamburger toy so I really would like to get him something new. Supermarket toys aren't going to cut it at our place ;) Whilst he occassionally plays with the tuff toys he finds it hard to squeak them and that was the appeal of this other toy Recommendations please! thank you
