I had this installed for my fence jumper: http://www.hiddenfence.com.au/
We have been advised an electric fence would be a no no as it may react to his aggressive side
That's baloney! Plenty of people contain dogs, which can be aggressive, using electric fencing. Me being one of them and knowing of plenty of others. If anything, it contains a dog so it can't get out and be aggressive to others!

I read this thread when it first appeared and I felt so sorry for poor Buddy and his owners. Yes I shed a few tears and I was and still am angry with the grooming establishment. Poor buddy! Poor owner!
It left me fearful of ever leaving my boy at a groomers. I started using a mobile service so I could watch out my window to make sure he was safe. Yesterday I booked him in at a salon, and I was concerned when the groomer left a dog on the table to come and serve me. I asked her if the dog was safe and she gave me the 'you crazy old woman' look. I felt intimidated and made the booking but today I am wondering if I should cancel.
Am I being an over anxious mother? How can I make sure my boy will be safe?
I'm glad you cancelled. It takes 30 seconds to get them down and safely crate them while serving someone at the front desk.
If the mobile groomer is supposed to clip his nails then make sure she does! Don't feel intimidated about it, you are paying for a service. You could always just say 'oh would you mind checking his nails, they have been really noisy lately with their clicking' etc etc.

That poor w3oman, my heart goes out to her I don't think I would ever sleep again if my Esme went missing

Jumping castles are great, so the kids are entertained while the parents wander around the stalls. Face painting too.
Quality dog stuff, not crap stuff that you can buy in Woolies etc.
Competitions - waggiest tail, owner - dog look alike etc etc.
Love watching agility at these things too.
And whoever speaks through the microphone, someone who doesn't YELL. Sometimes you can't hear a thing other than some annoying person and the speakers are too loud.

I am a groomer so if you need any help just shout. :)

He is gorgeous :)
Had you used that groomer before?

That's hard. I'm not up with which would be best for their liver function but one option other than Advantix(or frontline) would be to make up permoxin as a spray and mist her with it before you go walking. My dog reacts badly to Advantix so we have used frontline spray on her but I'm considering trying the permoxin this summer.
Haha, snap! :)
Same main ingredient in Advantix and Permoxin so I'd be careful with that.

Having a baby excuse is crap, sorry it is...I have had three children (two at school now, one at home and have a couple of dogs, show train them, show them and occasionally groom terriers for public...oh and raise a litter or two...oh and run my home, feed everyone and get chores done...its doable! Oh and I still have time to have a nice bath in the evenings or read a book for half an hour! And you know what Ive done all this since my first was 12 months, so I find it hard to believe the "oh I have a baby/young child excuse!!" (Oh and there is having a baby for someone else too..which meant finding time for blood tests, appointments etc too over the last 12 months!!!)
Oh and I am a chemical depressive and rely on medication daily...so I DO understand about PN and normal depression. Yes I have bad days, but shit gets done because they rely on ME...
(ON NO this wasn't a post @ teebs or anyone else, just in general, because I too hear a lot of crap "baby' excuses - but still putting on my flame suit as I this being DOL I know it will come! ;) )
Well, at least you're prepared! I don't agree with you though. Like I said above, everybody copes differently and all babies are different - I don't think it's fair to judge others when it comes to things like this. I coped with a huge amount of stuff when my daughter was younger but would never judge others based on my own experiences. I think that's the biggest thing I've learned since being a mum

My baby is 5 months old, in the last 5 months my dog has gone from being walked most days to now only having 2 walks in 5 months, I take the baby out a lot but it's just too much taking the dog as well, From getting some training to Getting none, from being inside all the time to only coming in at night (unless the weather is bad)
I'm an experienced dog owner, I know what they need and feel so guilty I can't give or to her.
12 months ago I would have told anyone off for Rehoming a dog because it was too much with a baby.
Right now I can understand why some people do it.
I know things will get better and I'm lucky my dog is ok with the changes, but at times it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel and have even had the odd thought that my dog would be better elsewhere.
I never realised how hard being a mum works be, yes, there are some people who can manage ok but there are a lot more who can't.
Hang in there Teebs. Every baby is different so no one can make a judgement about these things. My dogs were all pushed to the back burner when I had my daughter but they coped just fine. When your son is older then it gets easier to juggle dogs and kids together. When they're babies it can be much harder to juggle. Frankly, I don't think a lot dogs care two hoots if they miss a walk, just so long as they get indoor time with their people.

Clyde - you could also check out Rose-Hip Vital Canine. I had my young dog on Glyde (numerous ortho-related issues) and didn't think Glyde was doing a particularly good job. She had previously been on Joint Guard. Within weeks of starting her on the RHVC she was back racing up stairs which is something she hadn't done in many many months. But as I just said in the RHVC thread i do think its a bit of trial and error and not every product works for every dog.
Thanks Ness, will do some reading on it now. Appreciate your help

i) Either they have noticed, but are to embarrassed to say that "yes, I saw my dog was limping in pain and did nothing about it" OR
ii) The dog lives outside and has no human interaction. After all, who would be patting and playing with a poo encrusted dog?
Megan you would be amazed at the amount of people who tell me they sleep with their dog - not only matted, they often have fleas and a shitty arse
I had that today. Dog had old diarrhea caked on her backside and fresh stuff. As soon as I opened her car door to greet them, I could smell it.

What does everyone think of Glyde? It's been recommended for my Pug who has hip dysplasia.
-
Much & all as the dog apparently needs care - I don't really condone 'abducting' and grooming someone else's dog , FWIW .
I agree. It's a terrible idea.

Is there any info on her nature? I know she wouldn't fit here, just think it might help if people know some basics. She is gorgeous and looks so sad : (

I wouldn't shave a dog off in winter and leave it at the pound.
Take it the pound and leave a note saying that you are happy to groom it when they collect their dog. They may or may not take you up on your offer.

I have vet biters but the vets just use their own muzzles.

Hopefully this will work for you Daffyduck. It's a short clip from a dance festival they had - the way those women can shake their bootie is amazing!!

I love seeing these pics, even ones of toilets!
I only took 998 photos
Ive just seen your other thread and there are so many empty resorts in Bora Bora. There were 17 luxury over water bungalow resorts and now since the GFC only about 8 are operating. The rest are just sitting there empty and abandoned, a lot in need of repair after the 2010 cyclone. Very sad! Clive Palmer has bought the abandoned Club Med so it will be interesting to see what he does with it.

Rocketeer, we were staying in Bora Bora near Tahiti. The dogs live on a tiny motu just near Bora Bora. The dogs owner runs a business taking people out on his boat snorkeling, swimming with sharks, rays etc and back to his motu for lunch. He has two other dogs who aren't social (intentionally) and are guard dogs (I thought they were Pitties too but someone else said he was told they were Dobes). The 4 dogs together protect his motu when he is not there. You could walk from one end of the motu to the next in about 60 seconds, it was really a drop in the sand.
They had two loos. I was surprised to see it was properly plumbed. His set up was amazing. He had a 'fish farm' type set up where he would keep eating fish he'd caught.

I'm sorry I missed those last replies until now. Thanks so much for your suggestions.
Goliath has improved a great deal with the toileting. In the last 5 days he has only peed in the house when he was put behind a baby gate. He seems to have severe separation anxiety, and pees in response.
Really pleased he's making progress. I'd question that he has severe sep anxiety though, he'd fall apart if this was the case. More likely he's having a sulk and does a pee in response. I've just been away for two weeks and in the few weeks leading up to going away, for the first time ever in my Pugs like he had not pee'd indoors! Im out the door and two hours later I get a text that the little **%&$ had peed on my bed and on the house sitters suit case  The next day he shot in to my daughters bedroom and peed on her cherished Pug toy! He continued to do stealth pee's inside while I was gone. I got home, he pee'd on my suitcase and bed leg and that's been it (for now).

Sharks circling
Sorry, changed my mind. Hope he isn't too upset :D :D
My 8yr old went swimming with them
I stayed in the boat as someone needed to take all the photos.........

I agree, not just patella but also cruciate. My Tzu did this and it didn't seem to bother her but turned out it was her cruciate as well as patella! My Pug also does this and so I booked him in for cruciate surgery but turns out it was hip dysplasia and the vet wants to do a femoral head removal.
Hopefully it's nothing major though Donatella!!
