  1. As a breeder who is also involved in breed club committees I would support a yearly "wellness" vet visit. I think its a great idea. Actually someone who has a puppy from us does just that with their cats already.
  2. My daughter had all the vaccinations that are recommended for children and still she got whooping cough and nearly died from it. Vaccinations do not guarantee immunity. That fact aside.... Do humans get vaccinated yearly for diseases??? NO they do not! Then why would our poor dogs immunity not last as long as ours does? Australia is way behind...USA has adopted the 3 year vaccination protocol years ago. We heard about the University Of Colorado's recommendations for the 3 yearly vacc years ago and have been folowing it. None of our dogs have become ill and our oldies are very very healthy! No cancers or seizures or any problems apart from a little arthritis. The increase in cancers and seizures in dogs could be caused by pumping their bodies full of toxins, vaccinations, heartworm meds, worm meds constantly......think about it.... it makes sense......
  3. Looks like a melanoma to me. I have no experience with them but if I had a lump like that I would run to the doctor!
  4. We had to have surgery on our 12 month old very active breed puppy and had to keep her quiet for 6 weeks with only a quick toilet break on a lead gradually building up over that period. We had her in a wire crate so she could see what was going on around her and still feel involved in the family (other dogs etc) We gave her "Kongs" filled with peanut butter and/or cream cheese and pressed little bits of dry food into the sticky lining to hold them there and that would keep her busy for hours trying to lick all the food out. Also gave her pigs ears and marrow bones to chew on and lots of interesting puppy toys. There are some really good ones if you look around. Whenever we were home she sat on our laps for cuddles. She was happy and it didnt affect her in an adverse way at all. You can also freeze things for her and as they melt she can nibble more little bits off it. Especially good if its hot.
  5. I had the same thing happen to one of my bitch puppies a few years ago. She had 3 infections with blood. It started a little while after her vaccinations which we now know affected her immune response to the bacteria. The vet was going to do a catheter next time she got one which I didnt like the sound of so I did some research and put her onto cranberry capsules, and ascorbic acid (vit C) tablets crushed into her food; and added a good heaped tablespoon of a good quality yoghurt. It cleared it up and she never had another UTI ever again. The vet wanted to know what magic I had worked on her and didnt believe me that it was so simple to clear up with natural means. The antibiotics would help until she went off them and then it all came back again x 3.
  6. "The other end of the leash" is also very good theory based book about dog behaviour.
  7. Hi i lovemy pippa. So sorry you are having a similar problem to my girl although my girls dont ooze anything at all.Ewwww that must be awful!!
  8. Why dont you get one pup of each sex?? Then they have company while you are away from home and they should get along no problems. Opposite sex dogs get along better than same sex dogs too as a general rule especially for novice dog owners.
  9. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
  10. Would hate this to happen to anyone .
  11. I wouldn't have gotten 2 males of a Bully breed in the first place. You could have real problems develop there and especially since the puppy was sold too young and has not has the opportunity to learn proper doggy manners from his dam and siblings. You would have been much safer with a female puppy to put with your older male dog. Does the breeder have a female pup you could swap with??? I know it would be hard to part with your pup now that you have probably bonded with him but it could save alot of heartbreak later on.
  12. **BUMP** Any other ideas anyone?????
  13. Yes I know its not a good sign but she really is very healthy in every other way. I hope its not something sinister lurking.
  14. I am giving a zinc tablet daily and vit C and Homeopathic tissue salts as well as a herbal Immune booster but I will give the Manuka Honey a go to. Thanks for that. Any other ideas? Thanks
  15. My vet hasn't suggested doing any blood tests or urine tests yet. What type of tests would you suggest doing?
  16. Hi all, My dog has some mouth ulcers. My question is ....What can be the cause of this ?
  17. It sounds to me like your puppy needs to be put into his bed for a nap when the biting gets out of control like you are describing. Pups are just like toddlers. When they get overtired nothing you do will make any difference. To protect the puppies temperaments they need plenty of nap time otherwise they can get very silly just like kids do. Have you tried holding the puppies muzzle with you hands and looking him in the eye and in a loud gruff voice saying "NO". This always works for me. Dont ya just love puppies!!!!
