  1. Yes they do only advertise "positive". This is where networking (eg. DOL) is excellent as it helps you to stay in touch with other things occurring. Yeah, but no one posted about Ian Dunbar and he is someone I'd like to have gone to :p I guess I just need to be a bit more proactive when I look out for such things.
  2. I couldn't find anything about the seminars either Maybe they haven't started listing seminars yet. They only advertise positive based seminars from what I can gather though. Better than nothing I guess.
  3. I feed a mix of meat and bones. Meat = Chicken or Beef. That's it. I don't care for percentages and differing what they get. They look healthy, the vet says they are healthy. Good enough for me.
  4. Wouldn't work for me yesterday. Where does it list seminars/events?
  5. It appears down to me. I'm almost tempted to join the canine councils just to get info on seminars. Almost, but not quite. It'd be great if people could post them on here more often.
  6. I agree with you. I first heard this from K9Force and went and did some reading up on it and came to realise he was 100% correct, most people have no idea what a real alpha roll is, no physical force pushing the submissive dog down at all! I don't bother arguing the semantics of this one, it'd be a fruitless excersize. I like fruit though. I just don't see why it is necessary.
  7. I want my dog to be like Seitas, but no matter how hard I try he won't stop loving dogs. I have no idea why.
  8. LL a little birdie told me that both the guide dogs and assistance dogs training schools are being evily infiltrated by Delta trainers, therefore trying to change the methods used. Oh well, good test for delta methods. If it works, great, if it fails, someone dies.
  9. Because in every thread, you seem to ask very very very basic questions. So basic that some of the most experienced trainers on the board couldn't initially agree Everything in dog training is a theory, and I want to hear the views of people who have different theories. I'm not asking because I have no idea. I have my own theories, but I like hearing other peoples viewpoints.
  10. Lmao, I still want to know why you were asking! I just assumed you were trying to annoy me but now I don't think you were :S I shall. So far it's going well.
  11. Are you a police dog trainer? Sorry, I am training a dog in conjunction with a professional trainer. I really fail to see your point, your theory on only those involved in trialing understand high standards is completely false. If you don't start making a point, then I'm going to stop responding to you.
  12. I'm training a dog in protection for security work. Is that good enough for you? Needs a far higher standard than any trial.
  13. One of the most ethical fishing industries in the world. But not very ethical. Shark fishing is a huge no-no in the marine conservation world. The sooner commercial & recreational shark fishing is banned the better. http://www.amcs.org.au/default2.asp?active_page_id=164
  14. This time I am quering the claim of independence. I know sibes when working WILL ignore a handlers direction if it'll put the dogs in danger (IE, they will avoid splitting a tree (one dog either side)). Is this simply survival instinct (the dogs are looking out for themselves), is it a genetic predisposition to look out for danger to the "pack" or is it a trained behaviour. I personally view it as a combination of all three. This question applies to any breed really but my interest lies in Huskies.
  15. But it doesn't count because you have an imitation sibe.
  16. Say something then. No, I'm not. I didn't create this thread to have a discussion on training and I'm not going to partake in any discussion in it. I asked for some information and links, not for a discussion. If you'd like to discuss rank aggression with someone then go ahead, but it won't be me. I'm not assuming anything, perhaps you should go and re-read the thread you started a few months ago stating you no longer agree with dominance theory. Another option is I didn't understand you properly? But regardless, read my PM
  17. Title = sport (right??) work = no titles  *shrug* What? A title isn't work, my point was that she is competing in SCHUHTZHUND and in the sport, she hasn't even obtained a title so she is hardly a decent example of effective schuhtzhund training. Sorry for not making that clear, I made the assumption that you'd be able to deduce that yourself. I will re-word my question....how do you tell the difference between the two...ie the body language, etc etc. How does a dog show "rank" aggression compared to how a dog shows fear aggression? Just interested in your interpretation that's all I'm not sure what your point is since you don't believe in dominance theory. I'm not a behaviourist, and since you obviously don't believe rank aggression exists (as you disagree with dominance theory) then you really can't offer any insight into dealing with dominant/rank aggressive dogs in a positive way, can you? Tony, you're correct. It's about handler aggressive dogs, as in dogs who are aggressive towards the handlers.
  18. Schuhtzhund, sport, I want real work. Plus, from what I can gather from her blog she hasn't titled her dog yet anyway, if anything she has failed with the bite work side of it. Attack work is a bit misleading as well, but I'm after people who have trained protection dogs and deployed them in the field, ie, not a sport.
  19. So how do you diagnose a "rank" dog and one that is fear aggressive? Aren't both emotive behaviours based on defense drive? Lord Midol, you seem to be the expert in drives...what do you think? I would have expected you to know the difference between fear & rank aggression. Fear = Scared. The name is pretty self explanatory. Rank = Dominance, again, the name was self explanatory.
  20. I've seen some who are into schuhtzhund doggy dancing Star, Yeah, I've seen fear aggression treated with PP methods but never rank based.
  21. Yaha. This is what I am getting it. It's all well & good that they feel good, but a drive is anything which compels them to do something. Prey drive compels them to chase moving objects (which of course can be used in many ways like Tony said) so in my mind, it IS a drive which is compeling them to run (and in turn makes them feel good) but it might just not be a type of drive which is commonly recognised in the dog training world. I like your link between migratory behaviour though. I also think pack drive comes into it but they still have the desire to pull and run by themselves so to a very low extent.
  22. Except I am only interested in protection, so I only ask questions on protection. Ohh, and sledding & agility. I don't see what you're getting at. I never implied they were lesser trainers but if I'm not interested in obedience then how & why is what an obedience trainer says relevant in the sport I am interested in? I said protection, not schuhtzhund. I'm more interested in trainers who have trained service dogs, and have had them deployed and not pulled off the street. Which ones? AFAIK, the ones who I'll me meeting don't use PP techniques. I only know of one down there who is a protection trainer (though I have a feeling he gravitates towards Schuhtzhund) and he uses the same tools I use. I'm interested in reading up on methods other than those I currently use. Why would I move to Melbourne? It's in Victoria
  23. Can anyone give me the names of trainers who've succeded in protection work using positive methods? I only want a trainer who also has video proof of this being achieved. Also interested in trainers who have solved human aggression, more specifically handler aggression & again, only interested in trainers who have created video proof. If there is no proof, I don't want to hear their name.
