  1. Quite a few years ago there was a very big scare campaign that went around telling people to stop vaccinating their children because of side effects. Out of 10 mothers in my mother group only 3 of us continued to vaccinate our children. That was 14 years ago with my eldest - of those 7 children that were not vaccinated each one contracted - measles, mumps, german measels - they were lucky that none of them contracted polio - however there was a reported case that scared the medical community enough to urge doctors to vaccinate parents at the same time as their children. I was revaccinated in 1993. Just this year while listening the news a couple months back - it was noted that there was an increase in whooping cough amongst children and adults. When I came down with the flu this year and couldnt shake my cough the first thing my doctor asked was "have you been around anyone who could have whooping cough".

How do pharmaceutical companies profer from this you ask - When you are sick - what is the first thing you do? You go out and buy over the counter treatments - if that doesnt work, you go to the doctor who gives you a perscription. If its bad enough you go to the hospital which in turn give you more medications.

These companies are not stupid - why would they try their best to put themselves out of business by wiping out all disease either viral or bacterial? All businesses are designed to make money and most companies that I have worked for will do what ever it takes to make that money.

Dogs do not have the same immune system as humans and while we all look at our pets as if they were humans - when it comes to this subject it isnt the best thing to do. While titre testing may be a great way of reducing the number of vaccinations required - how do you know if the coverage your dog has doesnt deterirorate to such a level that your dog winds up getting a preventable disease? The answer is you dont until either the dog gets sick or until your next titre test - which from my reading is only done on a yearly basis - for me that is too great a risk to take.

I am not expecting people to accept my views on this - I am only offering another side of the arguement because it does make you sit back and think. You need to weigh up both sides of the issue before any one makes a decision especially when the health of either yourself, your family or your pet is concerned.

Once again these are only my own personal opinions - please do not flame me for speaking my mind.

Am just curious as to which over the counter medications are used to cure distemper or parvo?

BTW - paralysis from polio almost always only occurred in those who had had tonsillectomies, as it was the tonsils that protected against the polio virus. When the doctors realised the connection they stopped doing the routine tonsillectomies that had been the custom since the 1920's, but they sure as hell didn't publicise this! ;) Just google polio+tonsillectomies!

That'd be why my doctor was so reluctant to take mine out then! It took me getting tonsillitus(SP) 16 times in a year before he took them out ;)

  2. My boy gets nutro and whatever I am eating mixed in (The meats, either a sausage or a bit of steak chopped up) for a bit of flavour.

He eats just under the recommended because of the extra sausage/steak and he gets Nutro either 4 or 5 days a week and he gets a treat for the other 2 days of whatever I feel like making him (Still a bit of nutro mixed in but not much.) In doing this (the treat days) I found he eats more willingly and doesn't get sick of his food.

  3. So the big bones I've got for Axle now are cow legs? They are about 30cm-50cm long and sliced in half. Flies really like them - so does Axle.

He'll never be able to actually chomp through the bone (for a few months anyway) so is there a need to take the bone once the meat is gone? He likes chewing on them as they are... If I take them away he eats our table instead.

  4. Next door neighbours dog isn't eating either, doubt its relevent but yeah.

Though, the guy is sneaky. I woke up this morning (3am) to crunch crunch and since I was on the sofa for the night (Big arse spider im my room...) I peeked over and he had opened the pantry, taken out a piece of weetbix and them pushed the box back in with his nose!

  5. It is littler now.

I don't wanna go prodding nothing to see if there are two, but hair is in the way. I mean, I wouldn't want someone prodding my balls.

That is them that is them!

Ohh, how relieving. Axe DOES have balls.

  6. Lol.

Dog penis and balls is new to me! Never experienced the joys of inspecting his areas to make sure they are all good. Didn't actually look long enough to see one or two lumps!

THis dogs pee pee is HUGE! http://www.vivo.colostate.edu/hbooks/pathp...al/dogcoll3.jpg

Axes wont get that big will it :S

I think we should stop laughing at my expense!!!!!!!!!! lol... not my fault...

Ohh, what was he so excited about? He was just having a bath... He hates baths.

  7. That must mean someone is sneaking him food.

    Grrr.

Ohh well, family was given strict instructions that NO ONE other than me feeds him.

He ate some of his food tonight but not as much as usual.

Though, he is finding some way out of the fence. Perhaps he is catching bush tucker.

Today whilst I was out (First time he has been alone, EVER) he got out, was back in when I turned up home but he was covered in crap. I locked him outside while I ate and he got out again!

I am investing in new wire fencing soon. He can jump now so temp fencing has to go.

  8. Chicken gets gobbled up immediatly.

I found out today the only thing he was fed to get runny poo was ice cream. No more icea cream for him. The runny poo is gone today - was here yesterday and every few days it was there... Think Ice Cream was the culprit.

He goes through about 10L a day. Some of it he kicks over but our tap is broken and has a constant drip so he never runs out.

It is his dinner time now, I shall go test.

  9. Don't think so, everyone knows not to feed him anything as he gets the runs and we don't know what from, so the only food he gets is dinner.

He doesn't get any of mine - tastes too good but he cries and cries (finally taught him not to jump up).

He does get big bones though but they dont have much meat on them.

Neighbours would have to be able to throw 200m+ to get food into his area, lol. I have a sneaky feeling he caught a bird the other day though. Found feathers in his house.

  10. Axes hunger strike is now at 3 days

He gets breakky and dinner for 20 mins.

He gets a bowl of nutro either with a little mince or gravy for flavour and chicken carcass/wings/necks one or two nights a week and fish once a week.

He just looks at his food, then comes and sits next to me when I eat asking for mine (little howls).

What can I do to make his food more appealing? He has no problems eating lizards, cockroaches and flies so why won't he eat his dinner???

His poo don't stop just because his eating does though :(

  11. LOL..we printed out a poem called "My puppy ate my Homework" and put all the "bits" in a plastic bag..teacher was

    Lol.

Axle snapped my USB pen in half. It was my backup... the original got lost...

    No one believed me.

  12. Mine is alot younger than yours but he howls as the sun comes up, when he needs to pee, when he is seperated from me and when he wants food.

I ignore him. Works in the mornings... Gets bored and finds something to do by himself.
