  1. My Basset gets patches of lighter colour coming into the warmer months that are 'dead coat' I have to rake out.. do you think this is what Bundy has? Have you tried brushing it out?
  2. that snood is sooooo cute :D I was going to ask what a snood is but i don't need to now. I assume its just to protect from grass seeds or other uses? Also is it mainly ears you have to worry about getting grass seeds? Thanks to everyone for fur clipping ideas etc, I have a rough saint I might try it on (to an extent). She had a grass seed last year very $$$.
  3. Does anyone on DOL do this already? or know anyone who does? I'm feeling really bored and stagnant in my office job and my contract ends soon.. i'm sick of doing the same old things day in day out and not making a positive impact on anyones lives etc I love dogs, own two and love washing and grooming them myself.. was thinking about buying a franchise. What does everybody think? Oh and is it worth it money wise with different taxing etc??
  4. Hi there I want some advice, 6 year old Saint Bernard, lovely temperament, docile, snuggly, friendly, to people, and great with kids. But she can't stand other dogs. Apparently she wasn't socialised as a pup (we got her about 2 yrs ago). She gets along great with my Basset Hound after some initial crankiness and alpha stuff, and she is better than she was 12 months ago. I'm trying to introduce her to other dogs slowly and give her praise and treats when other dogs are around so she associates other doggies with something good. She really wants to savage/stand over other dogs and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas?
  5. Don't suppose anyone knows of shows in the Canberra area where you can enter de-sexed dogs? Also, I was wondering if I can take my dogs to Canberra shows to watch and meet people even if we're not entering and my girls are desexed..
  6. Hi there, I'm new-ish I have a 6 yr old Saint Bernard and a 3 yr old Basset Hound, both de-sexed so can't show either But.... I was wondering if you can enter desexed dogs in endurance competitions or anything? Also, getting a Saint puppy in the next year or two (will keep him entire) and was wondering what sort of competitions I could enter him in for strength or speed or what? I'm pretty much a virgin when it comes to showing etc so any advice is appreciated. Oh and I'm in the ACT.
  7. Hi again, a file would drive her crazy shes hates hair/blow driers when she gets hydrobathed so i can imagine a file annoying her. The groomer was doing it but he wasn't cutting them short enough, for a Basset anyways because he couldn't handle her crying. I'll just have to try trimming a little every week to see if they get shorter. Thanks heaps :D
  8. Hi there, I have a Basset Hound and she HATES having her claws clipped. I have to pin her to the ground and bribe her with food. Plus my vet said he'd have to sedate her to do it so he didn't want too. Anyway.. I stopped doing it as often as I should have 'cause she made such a fuss and now the red bit inside (quick?) seems longer and I can't actually clip her nails short enough. Is it possible the red bit got longer and if so how can i shorten it..? her nails are far too long. Any hints would help, she's my first doggy. :D
