Giving Human Phergen To Dogs?

Is it ok to give human phenergan to a dog?

If so what is the dosage to weight ratio?

My bitch has come up with an insect reaction and someone with big dogs said she needs an antihistamine and told me to give her phergan, this person isnt hugely experienced with dogs so I thought I would ask here.

My bitch weighs about 8 to 9 kgs.

Golden Retriever?

Why not phone your vet for advice? Better to hear it from an expert than overdose your dog or give it something that's dangerous.

Bloody hell. I would definitely be phoning vet for advice on this one!!!

Some foods/drugs for humans can be fatal for dogs and cats!

From previous information given by my vet:

Doses are for a 10kg dog (please adjust accordingly)

Phenergan 10mg tablets - 1 tablet twice daily

Periactin 4mg tablets - 1-2 tablets given twice or three times daily

Polaramine 2mg tablets - 2 tablets twice daily

Zadine 1mg tablets - 1 tablet twice daily

Claratyne 10mg tablets - 1/2 tablet once daily

Telfast 60mg tablets - 1 tablet once daily

Zyrtec 10mg tablets - 1 tablet once daily

Hope this helps and your girl is feeling better soon xx

Phenergen can be given to dogs (as can most anti-histamines intended for humans). Ingleburn Vet has a good chart on their website for dose rates but of course - first course is always to ring your own vet.

If it is a bad reaction then a cortisone treatment might be more effective.
