My Pet hate is people who do not trim dogs tails and they have this messy "paint brush tail" thing happening..

Its a fine line to tread though Sway. With a Fauve if you were to trim a tail it can go negatively against you under a breed specialist - had it happen myself. Will confess to neatening them here in Australia but would ensure I didn't do it leading up to a specialist.

We had a very well known ACD breeder come over to Tassie to judge, quite a few years ago now, and all of us exhibitors had only recently been told by a well known Group 5 judge, to trim our ACD's tails, as it looked so much more professional, neaten it up, etc, etc... So we ALL trimmed them neatly off, and off we all went, into the ring, proud as punch with all our dogs having their lovely trimmed tails... Very bad move :(... After she finished judging ACD's, she asked us all to put the dogs away, and all come back to the ring... Yes she stopped judging :-)... So we did, then she asked us, all 'Why do you all have trimmed tails on your dogs, every dog here today???' We explained what the recent group 5 judge had told us, and that was why the tails were all trimmed... She was gobsmacked, and we were all told to let their tails grow back and to NEVER, EVER trim them again... All told to us very politely I might add :)...

Now I have Basenji's, and nearly every exhibitor in Aus trims/shaves their dogs tails, and while I neaten my guys tails up, I refuse to shave them... I think I've been scared for life :o...
