Vet On Brisbane Southside

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum as I am getting a whippet puppy at the beginning of December this year.

I have a pet parrot and I take her to a specialist bird vet that is within the Greencross vet building on Kessels road at Mt Gravatt. Because I have not had a dog before I don't know of any good 'general purpose' vets in the area. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Greencross at Mt Gravatt or if you could recommend a good vet around there. (I live at Coorparoo.)

Price isn't so important to me. I would like someone who takes care and explains things to me clearly so that I feel confident with the care my puppy is getting. I also know someone who goes to a little veterinary practice at Stones Corner but I'm not that confident in the persons recommendation so any information about this practice would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your help.

Ellene

The specialist bird vet has seen my pup a couple of times at that same surgery. (I only know he was the bird specialist from the vaccination certs, he's a nice guy)

I don't have any complaints about the service they offer at this point, but I'm quite sure there are better vet practices around.

I remember reading good things about the sailsbury vet, I think they may be on Lillian Ave.

Hi again,

Thanks for your reply. My two options at this point in time seem to be the greencross at woolongabba or the stones corner vet ( not a greencross vet). Has anyone been to either of these vets before? I want my puppy to have the best care and I'd feel better if I had a recommendation from someone. Thank you!

I'm a bit confused. Isn't the Greencross Vet you take your bird to also a general purpose vet but with the bird specialist section separate?

I live out the back of Ipswich and travel to see the wonderful staff and vets at Anvet Kedron (cnr Gympie Rd/Wallin St, Kedron) , which for you would be a quick travel up the Pac Mwy, through the Clem 7 and Airport Link onto Gympie Rd.

Greencross has become so big it is a bit like going to one of those big medical centres where you don't always get an option regarding which vet you would like to see your pet. I became frustrated with this as my breed requires specific knowledge and any old vet just doesn't always work. I also had an occasion with Greencross where I booked two dogs in for surgery and specified which vet I wanted to do them. One of the surgeries (entropion - eyes) was botched badly and it was only then I was told another vet had done it in order to learn how to. Since the dog was "only a rescue" they didn't think I'd mind. I did and changed vets after I had the vet I wanted to do the surgery undertake corrective surgery on the dog and I was permitted in the surgery to watch.

I have taken dogs to the AES side of Greencross Woolloongabba and had no complaints. It was just an overnight stay until I could transfer the pup to my own vet.

The mt gravatt greencross has two vets. One is the bird specialist, who also does normal vet work and a second vet, who is also quite nice, but in my opinion not as good as the other vet.

And I've also heard fantastic things about the vet at Greenslopes.

Thank you all so much for your help. Sorry about the confusion! Yes the greencross that I take my bird to has a specialist bird vet in the building but they're technically separate to greencross. Deb monks is fantastic! I didn't realise she did dogs as well. I'll call up and ask tomorrow. I have such confidence in her and that's what I want for my puppy a well. I'll also enquire about the holistic one at green slopes.
