Wire Haired Terrier

Recently on the rescue forum a dog was described as a wire haired terrier. I cannot find any information about such a breed either on DOL breed pages or on the internet. Does anybody know if it's a common name for another breed?

It is a well known breed, look under Fox Terrier Wire here on DOL.

Assuming it is a pure bred it would be a Wire Haired Fox Terrier but if it is a mix then often any terrier type dog with a wire coat is referred to as a Wire Haired Terrier. This describes the coat and dog type rather than a breed.

Thankyou. It had erect ears and I thought fox terriers had folded ears. I thought it must be a different breed I hadn't heard about.

While I am at it, what about a miniature fox terrier? Is there such a breed?

As Airedaler said, if it was in the rescue forum the term was most likely used as a descriptor; e.g. that the dog appears to have terrier heritage and is wirehaired.

Miniature Foxies have their own registry. Although I think the ANKC version is the Tenterfield terrier.
