  1. i ataught it initially in the loung with toy using pretend throw asking for a drop thent hrowing the toy as a rewrd you could use food but my dog had an excellent drop to begin wit first make sure your dog will drop on vice or cue and even if your sitting standing back turned etc
  2. usually i only drop on the run if i fall n a hole lol
  3. yes but i dont know any umpires that havent played at some level yes but understadning the rules is easier if you have actually put them in place yourself i for one wouldnt ask someone for a runthrough fif they havent trialled even if they had read the rule book and knew it off by heart because of the communicatin factor for example If you read lead must be held in left hand it doesnt really explain how it is to be carred you could hold your hand out the side like a showie does and be completing te task however when you have done the time in the ranks of trialling you have a much better understanding of what it means think back to your first dog and how you may have interpreted the rules compared to say now with a few more years experience
  4. i can see why the judging has gone downhill now how can someone who has never rained a dog to ud really understand the workinvolved

  7. http://www.vca.org.au/assets/otec%20judges...me%202006-7.pdf not in vic they dont have to tiel a dog past one pass in novice
  8. i love watching schutzhund dogs work i would love to get involved but have never owned an eligable breed
  9. how many judges in victoria have actively trialled dogs past novice
  10. actually i'd love to become a judge but being legally blind i think my competitors would get it just a little to easy rofl
  11. i love open stays a chance for a quick nap i remeber a few years ago in ud doign satys we had an old guy with us wehn we returned he shold have been on the end of the line no one noticed that he was still napping in a chai behind the hide that was in the days when everyone used to joke around in the hide and we'd get told of for making to much nois these days they'd probabaly nq the whole class for even muttering
  12. i think obedience has become a ral military exercise its lost its direction i know i struggle with the idea of bothering to trial another dog i know my dogs wrk to a high standard and who needs someone ni picking on stupid things that irrelevent to whther the dog is completing the exercise sure take points of but nq come on i do stand for exam with my hands in my heeling postion one down by my side the other on my hip and have not so far lost a point for it but to nq a whippet because of the way it is built is ridiculous my friend no longer trials now so theres one lost to the sport Also these dogs are in novice cut them some slack sure tae of the points and explain why and be fair i can see why more and more people are leaving obedience saying its too boring
  13. we did the time warp in stays at club once once very funny might try the hokie pokie and the nutbush i stand hands in front for recall but for stays im bad i rest one leg and just hadn my hands by me sides sometimes i stick my thumbs in my pockets very relaxed the behind the back is old school rofl
  14. well we got our ud in qland and with great scores so i cont know about that actualy wehn we arrived up there the club we went to were amazed at how my dogs worked and commented that they hadnt seen a dg work that well so i dont know guess its all in the eyes of the beholder
  15. ive trialled in both states i didnt really notice a difference in scores but my dog was getting high scores in melb anyway s i guess i wouldnt ive seen taperhunds dogs work and they are very nice working dogs and taper is a very good handler so if sh says the judges are being pedantic then would say they are there is a trial nearby in a couple of weeks might trot down and have look anyone want to pm me which judges i should check out
  16. Hi there Yup i agree though havent been in the ring for a while i am hearing similar things a lot i had one girl in teads at club because er dog had failed yet again in novice for extended hand signals and they arent she has a small dog gives the drop in front of its nose a couple of inches down but apparently two judegs told her she had to give signals at waist height umm where does it say that n the rules. Ive sen a whippet fail a down stay because you could see daylight under its chest i mean its a whippet thats the way they tend to lie it never moved but the judge didnt like the chest . Its sad when people get nit picky i love to see people pass and i hate seeing epople getting frustrate because some judes seem to think that if people arent doign things the way they would then its not god enough it wold be tempting to video these runthroughs and send them to otec with a letter of coamplaint and see what they have to say lol
  17. i totally agree erny and i thnk this is what happens a lot of the time i think youd have to go talk to the club and see if their methods would suit you if your not happy with what they say then kep looking
  18. i amninly use a verbal marker its easier and i have great timing clicker is good to both are concept so it doesnt matter what you use as a marker i have a frend that uses a vibration on a collar as a marker as her dog is deaf and that works well just pait the marker you choose with the giving of reward and your set
  19. totally agree but i think cosmolo wants soemwhere where she can do her own thing
  20. k9 has closed books they are full and both them and action dogs i think have fairly strict rules about the way things are taught at least they used to
  21. she does have agilit stuf there and i think she's around forty for a session
  22. Depends some people wil let you just use the equipment once they know your no a twit they will charge a small fee. you'd hve to ring around i havent dne agility seriously for ten years so wouldnt really know whos doing what
